November 2020/3

Dear members,Greetings from IADVL KN. I begin by thanking our members again for giving us an opportunity to

serve this association which has been envisioned and nurtured by doyens to provide professional excellence. The corona virus pandemic has impacted on every aspect of life of every individual in society including the way we work, live and learn. In spite of the lockdown, travel restrictions and the prevailing pandemic we have continued with most of the activities which IADVL Karnataka is offering its members.

IADVL KN Benevolent fund is a novel initiative for the benefit of its members. IADVL KN aims to provide benevolence in the form of immediate financial assistance to its members to tide over their genuine financial difficulty. This will also assure members the support and good wishes of the entire IADVL KN family. This scheme will strengthen the bond between the members and IADVL KN association, making our association more member-friendly and purposeful.

The internet has rapidly transformed the learning medium. We have moved towards eCMEs and e conferences to keep our academic activities going. IADVL KN academy chaired by Dr Manjunath Shenoy have been actively planning educational programs and research projects.

Webinar on Dermatology practice during COVID 19 pandemic was held on May 31st. RESIMED is a post graduate centered, skill based online scientific activity. It constitutes video-based teaching, demo and lectures on various clinical, laboratory and procedural skills required for day to day clinical practice and as an integral part of summative evaluation. The first session was started on 20th June and we have held 20 such sessions every week till now. Though there are enormous number of webinars happening these days, RESIMED consistently has an attendance of 600 plus delegates.

DERMABASICS is an orientation program for first year residents. This was conducted by IADVL KN EC and academy on 27th September. As IADVL provisional membership is mandatory for the residents to attend this, 168 new provisional life members have been added to our association. Interdisciplinary webinar with rheumatologists – INTERMED KN DERM was held on 13th September 2020. IADVL KN EC is organising the annual state conference E CUTICON KN.

Slogan and e poster competition, crossword puzzles were organised for residents on Vitiligo Day. Short videos by professional artists for patient counselling are done which are uploaded on our website. Our flagship project Charmaratha had to be stopped, and we are hoping it can resume its activities at the earliest.

We are actively enrolling members for e voting. 38 new evoters have enrolled over last 4 months. IADVL KN EC is organising the annual state conference E CUTICON KN.

My thanks to Dr Namitha Chathra, DERMAPEN editor and Dr Sneha M, Assistant editor for bringing out this edition successfully.

I thank our president Dr Y M Shivakumar and all office bearers, zonal and district coordinators, office bearers of sister societies for their active contribution towards all the activities of IADVL Karnataka. I pray that we all get through this COVID 19 pandemic safely.

November 2020/4

Greetings from Dermapen, Parton once said... “We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails.” This statement has

never been more relevant than now, the Covid era. We note with pride that IADVL KN has adapted excellently to the changed circumstances and has been a torch bearer in initiating academic and member friendly activities.

IADVL KN benevolent fund is a novel initiative started by IADVL KN with the goal of lending a helping hand to members facing financial constraints. It also aims to boost the morale of members in such circumstances, thus strengthen the bond between the association and its members.

The task of continuing academic activities would have been an arduous one if not for the internet. IADVL KN academy, under the able guidance of Dr. Manjunath Shenoy, has continued ongoing academic activities and initiated newer academic programmes in an online format.

A webinar on Dermatology practice during COVID 19 pandemic, the need of the hour, was held on May 31st. RESIMED is another new initiative mainly catering to post graduate students. It is a series of skill based online scientific sessions constituting video-based teaching, demo and lectures on various clinical, laboratory and procedural skills. The programme commenced on 20th June and 20 sessions on a weekly basis have been held so far.

Dermabasics is an annual orientation programme for first year post graduate students conducted by IADVL KN in association with a volunteering medical college. This year, it was conducted in an online format as e-Dermabasics on 27th September and was well received by the students. Since provisional membership of IADVL is mandatory for the residents to attend the programme, it has resulted in increased memberships for the association.

An interdisciplinary webinar in collaboration with rheumatologists, INTERMED KN DERM, was held on 13th September 2020.

Cuticon KN, the annual state conference of IADVL KN, will be conducted in an online format by the EC.

IADVL KN conducted crossword puzzles, slogan and e-poster competition for residents in observation of world vitiligo day. Short videos by professional artists on patient counselling have been recorded and uploaded on our website.

Many of our sister societies too have conducted webinars and e-CMEs.We thank Dr. Savitha Somaiah, honorary general secretary of IADVL KN; all the office office bearers;

zonal and district coordinators; and office bearers of sister societies for their active contribution to dermapen. We take pride in showcasing such activities and look forward to your contribution in future.
