THE SPIDER For centuries in the Japane se theatre, the Kabuki drama s ha ve u ed

" interpretati ve make-up " - standard co lour s and pattern s for differen t personalit y type s.

The face of a good man , for instanc e, is paint ed white; the face of a wid. ed man is painted red - the exac t shade of red determined by the extent and degree of hi5 wickedness.

Thi s gentleman is cas t in the rol e of the pider - the most wicked character of them all.

Th ea tric a l make -up, whether it be u, ed in Japan. Au strali a or any oth er part of the world, is ba sed on oil s and waxes. SHELL scienti sts in laboratori e, around the wor ld are con stan tly improving the qu ali ty and versatil ity of these mater ials used for theatrical purpo ses.
