Principal’s Message

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)

Week 3’s PBL focus is to “Use the equipment responsibly”. This focuses around the importance of using school and personal equipment and property appropriately and respectfully.

Breakfast Club It is very satisfying to share and celebrate the ongoing relationship that Glenwood Public School enjoys with Easton Park Residential Care facility. In partnership with the Whiddon Group, the governing organisation, our school has been able to offer students some breakfast choices, thanks to breakfast packs from Easton Park. These packs help to ensure our students are nourished for the learning day ahead. I’d also like to thank Mrs Searle, Miss Harper and Mrs Carlson for their time in operating the breakfast club each Thursday and Friday morning.

Community Helpers Strong ties between school and community greatly support our students. There are many roles that community members contribute that form part of a complex and functional school. Simple tasks can equate to important outcomes for our students and this is exampled in the job of having our school crossing flags in place of a morning and afternoon to increase student and community safety during the busy drop-off and pick-up times. I would like to thank Mrs Hawera and Mr and Mrs Plumridge, neighbours of our school, that on a daily basis put the crossing flags out for our students. Their willingness to support our school and particularly the safety of our students is greatly appreciated by the entire Glenwood school community.

YMCA Before and After School Care Closure As was communicated earlier this week via SkoolBag and also directly to affected families the YMCA before and after school care service will be ceasing operations at Glenwood Public School at the end of this year due to the low YMCA enrolments. This decision was a financial decision made by the YMCA organisation, not our school. This is unfortunate and I am well-aware of the impact that this can pose on families. Alternative arrangements have been made by the YMCA and there is an alternative arrangement being coordinated to bus students to and from our school in the morning and afternoon to the nearest YMCA facility located at Sackville Street Public School. Families can speak with Wendy, the YMCA coordinator here at Glenwood or speak to our school office about options for families that have been affected by this change.

Kindergarten Orientation Over the coming three weeks, Glenwood Public School will be running our Kindergarten Orientation program. These orientation events will run every Tuesday from 9:00am to 10:00am. We look forward to our 2019 Kindergarten students getting a taste of “big school”.

Executive Arrangements for Week 3 Next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday I will not be at school as I will be attending the Primary Principals State Conference and the Sydney University STEM Presentation. During this time, Mrs Searle will be relieving in the principal role.

University of Sydney STEM Academy Primary Program Presentation

As part of our partnership with the University of Sydney STEM Academy Primary Program,

Glenwood Public School will be presenting our STEM project to other participating schools and academic guests at the University of Sydney next Friday. Myself, Miss Harper, Mrs Mudaliar and Miss Weeitch will be attending this event which gives our school an opportunity to showcase the wonderful achievements this program has afforded our school. Have a great weekend.
