1 Getting Started

1.1 About This Document

This Upgrade Master Guide provides a central starting point for the technical upgrade of SAP Manufacturing Execution (SAP ME). You can find cross-scenario upgrade information as well as scenario-specific information in this guide.

NoteThe starting point for the technical implementation of your SAP application or solution is the Master Guide, which you can find on SAP Service Marketplace at service.sap.com/instguides.

You use the Upgrade Master Guide to get an overview of the upgrade paths, the upgrade of the involved software units, and scenarios from a technical perspective. The Upgrade Master Guide is a planning tool that helps you decide what software units you have to upgrade taking into account the dependencies between the software units. It refers you to the required documentation, mainly the following:

● Upgrade guides for single software units

● SAP Notes

● Configuration documentation

● SAP Library documentation

The Upgrade Master Guide consists of the following sections:

● Getting Started

This section contains information about using this document and related information crucial to the upgrade.

● SAP ME Upgrade Overview

A short introduction to the upgrade

○ A description of the software units for SAP ME 15.0

○ Software component matrix

○ Minimal system landscape information

● Solution-Wide Topics

This section contains general information on the upgrade of your SAP solution.

● List of Documents

This section contains the list of documents related to SAP ME and its business scenario.

Constraints

● The business scenario presented here serves as an example of how you can use SAP software in your company. The business scenario is intended as a model and does not run in your customer-specific system landscape the way they are described here. Check your requirements and systems to determine whether this scenario can be used productively at your site. Furthermore, we recommend that you test this scenario thoroughly in your test systems to ensure it is complete and free of errors before going live.

● This Upgrade Master Guide primarily discusses the overall technical upgrade of SAP ME, rather than its subordinate components. Additional software dependencies may exist without being mentioned explicitly in

this document. You can find more information about component-specific software dependencies in the corresponding upgrade guides.

2 SAP ME Upgrade Overview

2.1 Upgrade at a Glance

If you use SAP ME ERP Integration (SAPMEINT), note that the SAPMEINT 15.0 component runs only on SAP MII 15.0 co-located with SAP ME 15.0 on a single SAP NetWeaver instance. Therefore, the upgrade from SAP ME 5.2 and SAP ME 6.0 to an SAP ME 15.0 integrated environment requires the migration of SAP ME or SAP MII and SAPMEINT to a single SAP NetWeaver instance either new or existing one.

Upgrading from SAP ME 6.1 to SAP ME 15.0

The upgrade path from SAP ME 6.1 to SAP ME 15.0 assumes SAP ME 6.1 is running on a collocated server. For more information, see the System Requirements section in the SAP ME 15.0 System Landscape Recommendation Guide.

Upgrading from SAP ME 5.2 and SAP ME 6.0 to SAP ME 15.0

The upgrade path that you choose depends on the server that you will use in production. We recommend that you use a powerful server. For more information, see the System Requirements section in the SAP ME 15.0 System Landscape Recommendation Guide. When you complete migration and testing, the existing server from which you migrated may be used for other purposes. You can also migrate to a new server and use both of your existing servers for other purposes. For more information, see the Upgrade of Involved Software Components section below in this guide.

Supported Source Versions

SAP ME 15.0 supports direct upgrade from SAP ME 5.2, SAP ME 6.0, and SAP ME 6.1.

To upgrade a lower version of SAP ME to SAP ME 15.0, you must first upgrade the lower version to SAP ME 5.2. For more information, see SAP ME 5.2 Component Upgrade Guide.

2.2 Upgrade Paths

You can choose one of the following upgrade paths:

● Upgrading SAP ME Without SAP ERP Integration

● Upgrading from SAP ME 5.2 or SAP ME 6.0 while Retaining the SAP ME Server (with SAP ERP Integration)

● Upgrading from SAP ME 5.2 or SAP ME 6.0 while Retaining the SAP MII and SAPMEINT Server (with SAP ERP Integration)

● Upgrading from SAP ME 5.2 or SAP ME 6.0 to a New Server (with SAP ERP Integration)

● Upgrading from SAP ME 6.1 (with SAP ERP Integration)

Path 1: Upgrading SAP ME Without SAP ERP Integration

This path assumes upgrade of SAP ME on an existing server.

2.3 Upgrade of Involved Software Components

If you use SAP ME ERP integration (SAPMEINT), the upgrade to SAPMEINT 15.0 requires installation of SAP MII 15.0 or the upgrade of SAP MII to version 15.0 depending on the chosen SAP ME upgrade path. For more information, see SAP MII 15.0 guides on the SAP Service Marketplace at service.sap.com/instguides SAP Business Suite Applications SAP Manufacturing SAP Manufacturing Integration and Intelligence SAP MII 15.0 .

SAP ME 5.2 runs on SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1 EHP1. SAP ME 6.1 runs on SAP NetWeaver CE 7.3. Depending on the chosen SAP ME upgrade path, upgrading to SAP ME 15.0 may require one of the following:

● Installation of the latest patch for SAP NetWeaver 7.3 EHP1 SPS11 or higher

● Installation of the latest patch for SAP NetWeaver 7.4 SPS06 or higher

● Upgrade of the latest patch for SAP NetWeaver to version 7.3 EHP1 SPS11 or higher

● Upgrade of the latest patch for SAP NetWeaver to version 7.4 SPS06 or higher

For more information, see SAP NetWeaver guides on the SAP Service Marketplace at service.sap.com/instguidesnw.

2.4 Software Component Matrix

This section provides an overview of which business scenario of SAP Manufacturing Execution uses which software unit.

NoteThis upgrade master guide provides just one way to implement each business scenario. For other ways to implement business scenarios, see the Scenario & Process Component List in SAP Service Marketplace at service.sap.com/scl.

The Scenario & Process Component List helps you to find realization alternatives for SAP applications/solutions, business scenarios, and processes. It shows you which application components are needed to realize a business scenario or process.

2.5 Minimum System Landscape

The system landscape for SAP NetWeaver 7.3 EHP1 or SAP NetWeaver 7.4 determines the system landscape for SAP ME 15.0. For more information about the SAP NetWeaver 7.3 EHP1 or SAP NetWeaver 7.4 system landscape, see the Master Guide for SAP NetWeaver 7.3 EHP1 or the Master Guide for SAP NetWeaver 7.4 on the SAP Service Marketplace at service.sap.com/instguides.

The following diagram shows a minimum system landscape. It incorporates the core SAP ME 15.0 component and can be installed on a single server.

For more information, see the SAP ME 15.0 Product Availability Matrix (PAM), available at service.sap.com/pam, and search for SAP Manufacturing Execution.

RecommendationUse a minimal system landscape for test and demo purposes only. For performance, scalability, high availability, and security reasons, do not use a minimum system landscape as your production landscape.

2.6 Overall Upgrade Sequence

The following table describes the overall upgrade sequence for SAP ME 15.0 and contains all available software units. However, to run a specific scenario, you need a subset of available software units. Some are required for special processes. For information about which software is required to run a specific scenario, see Software Component Matrix.

For the latest component version and patch level requirements, see service.sap.com/sp-stacks.
