We are in need of the following items:
Thank you for your continued support !
Jesus Christ, in today's Gospel, clearly sets out requirements for all his disciples. The first is the willingness to give up everything. "If anyone comes to me without hating his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple." These are one of the hardest and most radical words of Jesus. God gives us our families - father, mother, siblings - to love them. He gives us life, so that we can enjoy it. Yet, He wants us to value the relationship with Him above all else. St. Paul will say: "For his sake I have accepted the loss of all things and I consider them so much rubbish, that I may gain Christ". This is a necessary condition in the life of a Saint. Like St. Francis of Assisi, who very literally accepted the call to follow Christ. He left the wealth of his family home, and made the poverty a companion in his life.
The second condition is the carrying of the cross. "Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple." Jesus reminds us about the challenges in our lives. Most often, this work is fulfilled by raising children, securing living conditions, building a loving family. Sometimes this effort also concerns the good of the country, another person, the Church. The burdens we carry in everyday life, if we dedicate it to God, become the crosses that make us His disciples.
The third condition that characterizes the disciple of Jesus, along with readiness to give up everything for the Master and the willingness to carry a cross, is great prudence. It is especially needed in the fight against evil. This is the most difficult point of our lives. Evil grows next to us, we have to wrestle with it every day, but if you do it imprudently, you will die. Following Jesus is not easy. You need seriousness, understanding and the ability to plan for the long term. It takes a willingness to make an effort, to decide to persevere to the end. Often it requires us to do a general restoration of the hierarchy of values, giving up all half-measures, compromises or concessions, aimed only at the comfortable and pleasant life. We need to make a sacrifice to God out of what hinders us from deeper relationship with Him. Maybe there's an obstacle that has been in our way for many years. Jesus will accept such a token, because it can become for us a pivotal moment of our lives, moment of making a conscious and free choice of Him. A moment that will make us true disciples.
