PROGRAMME CATALOGUESTUDYINGThe Italian University System

The degrees given in the Italian University System are organized as follows: First cycle degree programme (“Lau-rea”, L, equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree) and Second cycle degree programme (“Laurea magistrale”, LM, equiva-lent to a Master Degree). To obtain a first cycle degree, the student must acquire 180 university educational credits (CFU or ECTS) distributed over a maximum of 20 examinations; to obtain a second cycle degree, the student must acquire 120 credits distributed over a maximum of 12 examinations. In the case of a single cycle degree programme (Combined Bachelor and Master), the student must acquire 300 or 360 credits distributed over a maximum of 30 or 36 examinations (depending on whether the programme is of 5 or 6 years, respectively).

University educational credits (CFU or ECTS)The ECTS or CFU credits are an instrument used to measure the quantity of workload and studying, including individual study activity, required for the student to obtain the knowledge and skills in the learning activities included in the degree programme.Normally, each credit (ECTS) corresponds to 25 working hours, including lectures, practical work, as well as individual study.

Additional Learning Requirements (OFAs)Each single cycle degree programme provides for an assessment of the knowledge and skills for all the enrolled stu-dents. After the assessment, a series of additional learning requirements may be assigned to the student. The student who does not succeed in meeting the OFAs in the specified time will have to repeat the first year.

Test Online Cisia (TOLC)The School of Engineering and Architecture and the School of Economics, Management and Statistics adopt a new selection modality for the admission to their restricted access degree programmes: this assessment is based on the results achieved in the online test (TOLC) by CISIA, which is recognized at a national level. The School of Political Sciences adopts the TOLC to assess the knowledge and skills for the enrolled students, and possibly assigns a series of additional learning requirements (OFAs).Students wishing to enrol in a restricted access programme shall firstly take the TOLC test and then enrol in one of the selection procedures provided in the relevant call for applications. The selection procedures will not provide for any other tests or assessments, but they will help to create a ranked list of qualified applicants based on the TOLC test results obtained, weighted according to the criteria indicated in the call for applications.

Study plan or curriculumThe study plan or curriculum is the set of all examinations which the students must take and pass in order to obtain the degree or qualification. For the current enrolment year, each student is required to compile his/her study plan, in conformity with the terms and conditions defined in the degree programme, in order to select the optional learning activities and, possibly, modify his/her choices made in the previous academic years.

Tuition feesStudents can pay the fees in a single instalment with a €75 discount or in 3 instalments; see Studenti Online.Students must monitor their position on Studenti Online to find out the deadline for payment of any additional fees.

Tuition fee payment methods To view your fee situation and proceed with payment, you must access Studenti Online: www.studenti.unibo.itStudents, who enrol in years following the first, no longer receive the MAV (Payment Notice mandate) at home for the payment of tuition fees, but they can download it online.• by credit card directly on line. Cards must be authorized for payment on line and be part of the Visa, Ma-stercard, American Express, Diners circuit. They need not be in the student’s own name. Payments by credit card are immediately viewable on Studenti Online;• at any branch of UniCredit Banca once the payment code has been printed out (downloadable from Studenti Online). The payment code will not work at other banks or post offices. Unicredit customers can use it on the ho-me-banking system and at Unicredit cash machines. That payment has gone through will usually appear on Studenti Online by the end of the working day subsequent to payment;• at any bank (including homebanking mode) or Italian Post Office branch once your MAV online has been prin-ted. This is to be found in the “Situazione tasse” (fee situation) section of Studenti Online. No commission is due. This method is only admissible for registration payments. Whether online or over the counter, MAV payments usually appear on Studenti Online a few working days (5 or sometimes more) after payment, depending on the speed of bank clearing systems.

Until payments are viewable on line, they are not considered effective for enrolment in current year and enrolment for exams. In an emergency you may exhibit a receipt of payment at your Student Administration Office. No other payment

methods are permitted. Remember that the University of Bologna does not send any notifications, so students must find out about fee amounts and payment deadlines on their own.

Delayed paymentsIf you do not pay the fees, even for one instalment or one expired payment, you cannot sit any exams until you have paid all outstanding amounts. For late fee payments, a fine will automatically be added in the student career during the month of charging of fees of the next Academic Year (approximately July), in the following amounts: €30 within 15th days from the deadline; €60 from the 16th to the 30th day; €90 from the 31th to the 60th day; €120 from the 61st day onwards.
