COURSEINTRODUCTIONThis is an introductory-course for the Interior Architecture Graduate Program. This design studio introduces students to the planning of interior environments, addressing both the contents of the environments and the process of interior space planning. Topics include the making of rooms, the design of effective spatial sequences, functional relationships among project parts, arrangement of furniture, planning effective circulation systems, making spaces accessible, and designing safe environments with efficient emergency egress systems.

1. Gain understanding of theories of human behavior and interior environments to provide a unique, comfortable, and efficient interior environments. 2. Understand the relationship between the human feelings while experiencing the interior spaces 3. Understand users responses to interior spaces. 4. Learn how to create original work, and understand how to incorporate the ideas of others in the proper way. 5. Develop analytical skills, including: program analysis, site analysis, brand analysis, building analysis, and the analysis of information gathered from appropriate resources, and understanding the relationship between them. 6. Introduce design development skills through the production of layout of furniture, fixtures, and equipment. 7. Applying principles of lighting and materials to create an effective interior environment.

A.1 HUMAN BEHAVIOR CHARATTE To create abstract interior spaces and use colors and lighting to play with the senses and create emotions. Through this assignment I learned that a color and its related emotion can change when light is added to it.

MODERN& ENTERTAINING I chose the two abstract ideas of of modernity and entertainment to implement into my design. I wanted a modern home which is seen in my furniture and equipment selections. When I thought about what I created it also reminded me of modern architecture and I wanted to use the gradient design in my home to denote the entrance into the main house and small outdoor room, and as a connection between the two. I decided to implement the idea of entertainment because my clients have two young boys, and with youth comes having fun. I wanted to create environments in which the family can spend time together while enjoying themselves playing mini golf, in the playground area, and in the indoor playroom.

In this diagram the spaces are grouped based on their functions and how the are related to eaother.

The Laundry Room and Garage were grouped together because they are both used for storage. The Family Room, Living Room, Dining Room, and Kitchen were put together because they are used for serving and gathering, which is why they need to be next to eachother in the plan and for easy circulation between the spaces.

The public spaces are spaces of more interation while the private spaces are for interaction primarily by the resident living in that room.

The Yogs/Sauna Room is private because it is for just the two adults living in the home and the Living and Dining are private because it is an elegant space used for only special occassions.

With these adjacency diagrams, the big bubble in the center is a function and the smaller bubble surrounding them are the programs to how the function will be achieved.

The lines connect the program and the function.

DESIGN GUIDELINES- Create and open plan home by not having many walls or partitions.

- Incorporate areas for relaxation for the parents such as the master bedroom and yoga/sauna room.

- Have many family areas such as the family room, kitchen, and outdoors for family bonding time between the kids and parents.

- Make a home not just for comfort, but for everyday activities and having fun through creating spaces including mini golf, a playroom, and playground.

- Have a big open kitchen with an outdoor barbeque for cooking and incorporating cultural food from the clients home country of Argentina with a large refrigerator for meat storage and a wine cellar.

A.6.1 PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT Develop a concept statement and board based through the use of colour, scale, style, space plan, and functionality.

Concept Statement: For this presentation I was inspired by the modern architecture complimented by contemporary interiors. My inspiration for the color palette was nature, pulling from water, skies, and corals.

Conclusion: I will implement my two concepts of modernity and entertaiment from A.1 throughout my design. Entertainment in the playroom, and outdoor playground and mini golf and modernity in my interior design. My wall sconce from A.2 will be used as a lighting fixture in different areas of the house.
