WHAT SHAPE ARE YOU? Five shapes will flash on the screen in a
moment. You will have 15 seconds to identify which
shape best represents you. Once you commit, you cannot change your answer.
Ready?...
WHAT SHAPE ARE YOU?
WHAT SHAPE ARE YOU?
Square:Organized and a hard worker, you like structure and rules and dislike situations in which you don't know what's expected of you. "Tell me the deadlines and I'll get the job done," you say -- and you deliver. You prefer working alone to teamwork. Logical, you think sequentially -- A, B, C, D. You collect loads of data and file it so information is easy to locate. But you have trouble saying, "I've got enough information," and making a decision.
WHAT SHAPE ARE YOU?
Rectangle:You are a seeker and an explorer, searching for ways in which you want to grow and change. You ask: who am I? what is the world about? You are the most receptive of the five shapes to new learning. You are the only shape that's not frozen, and you cause your co-workers confusion when you change from day to day. All people go through rectangular periods when they're in a state of change.
WHAT SHAPE ARE YOU?
Triangle: A leader, you are decisive and able to focus on the goal. You have confidence in yourself and in your opinions, and you don't hesitate to tell everyone else the way the world is. You can be dogmatic and shoot from the hip. You like recognition and are delighted to tell people about your accomplishments. You can be self-centered and egotistical. You put stock in status symbols. American business has been run by triangles, and this shape is most characteristic of men.
WHAT SHAPE ARE YOU?
Circle: You are a people person, the shape with the most empathy, perception and consideration for the feelings of others. You listen and communicate well. You read people and can spot a phony right off. You like harmony and have your greatest difficulties in dealing with conflict and making unpopular decisions. You are easily swayed by other people's feelings and opinions. You can be an effective manager in an egalitarian workplace, but have difficulty in political environments with a strong hierarchy. If you're a woman, even if you're not a circle, some circle traits have been conditioned into you.
WHAT SHAPE ARE YOU?
Squiggle: You are creative, a "what if" person who's always thinking of new ways to do something. Your mind never stops and you do cognitive leaps -- from A straight to F. You see the forest and miss the trees. You don't like highly structured environments. You don't tolerate the mundane well and have a short attention span. If you don't get excitement at work, you'll cause it elsewhere in your life.
DEPARTMENT MEETING TRADITION
Directions: Every time we meet one team member will have pre-choose a song that best describes how you have been feeling/how life has been for you since the last time we met.
Purpose: a window into someone else’s world (getting to know our team deeper) & a fun way to “vent.”

TRAINING AND SUPPORT
CONTEXT
The landscape of testing in California changed this year.
As an organization, we collaborated to “Get it Right” and make a decision to best meet the needs of our students and teachers.
Our Assessments this Spring included:• CAHSEE• CSTs for ELA 11 and Math 11• CSTs for Science 8 and Life Science 10• CAPA for Special Education students• SBAC field tests
CONTEXT
We will continue to offer the same assessments in the upcoming school year, but the question has been raised…
What about the benchmarks?
CONTEXT
The ALS benchmark system has provided us data to inform instruction for the last 7 years.
Collaboration, effective planning and data driven decision- making were all a result of the implementation of the Benchmark Program.
These principles are valuable to our organization and critical in our continued effort to best support teachers.
With the absence of data from the state and a need to assess our students’ growth, we are excited to announce our own internal assessment program for 2014-15 and beyond.
Green Dot Common Assessment Program(GD CAP)
CONTEXT
RATIONALE
Factors driving Green Dot Common Assessment Program:
• Equity in curriculum and opportunities across ALL Green Dot schools
• Teacher requests for the following:• more alignment to course content• the opportunity to see the assessments in
advance to guide backward planning• the opportunity to give more input on
assessments• Alignment to the Common Core standards• Alignment to Core Curriculum resources
We know that the highest performing organizations are on the same page with curriculum and instruction.
We are committed to being driven by data to make decisions about what’s best for our student achievement and teacher development.
One of the decisions that will put us on the same page will be to have common student achievement data for our teachers to assess and reflect on.
RATIONALE
STAKEHOLDER FEEDBACK
We have engaged the following groups in feedback on the new GD CAP:
• Curriculum Directors • Cluster Directors• Common Core Transition Team

• Teachers from the following schools participated:• Watts AJR
Ralph Bunche• Academy A ACPA Leadership• ASLA Academy C Pat Brown• 9th Grade Academy Inglewood
We will continue to get teacher voice and feedback through a MS Review team this summer
and HS and MS teams next year.
WHAT IS A GD COMMON ASSESSMENT?
• Green Dot Common Assessments replace benchmarks as required district –wide assessments.
• The assessments are end of unit-summative assessments.
• Assessments are:• Common Core aligned• May includes mini – performance tasks• Skills – based and refer to the content /standards
aligned to recommended curriculum guides provided in the core curriculum resources
HOW DOES THE CAP WORK?
• Teachers are required to give assessments and scan data by a given deadline.• Windows will be published on GD Assessment
Calendar ( released in June 2014)• Drafts of assessments will be provided in advance of
instruction so teachers can map backwards to the standards. • The first assessment draft will be released on June
2nd• Tests will be revised as needed by Curriculum
teams to spiral keys standards prior to distribution • Teachers will receive final assessments
approximately 2 weeks prior to the scanning deadline
HOW DOES THE CAP WORK?• Assessment data will be analyzed at school site on
collaboration days • Administrators will be building department time
into their PD/ Collaboration calendar to support the analysis of data by content areas.
• Assessment data will be shared across the organization to support collaboration amongst teachers• Transparency with data promotes collaboration
and learning from our colleagues• All Green Dot Days will include two data analysis
sessions on Common Assessments (October and March)
• Green Dot Common Assessments will continue to not be a part of a teachers’ evaluation or effectiveness score
DEPARTMENT REFLECTION
• As a department share your initial thoughts/reactions to the overview provided of the GD CAP.
• Use the graphic organizer, to begin to identify benefits, challenges and supports your department will need to implement the program.

FAQWhat about the Core Curriculum (Course at a Glance, Curriculum Maps, Sample Unit Plans & Lesson Plans)?
• These materials are highly recommended!• All teachers have these resources to assist in
planning backwards and the transition to CC standards
• New teachers will be provided the resources as their curriculum.
• New schools will use the curriculum from their inception.
• ELA teachers have a number of common agreed upon texts to be used at each grade level. Beyond the texts agreed upon, teachers will align grade level texts within a school site.
FAQ
