Presents:
BLEU 23
T-206 Final Project by:
Lindsey Turner, Sarah Himschoot, Rebecca Pesavento
We first all agreed on a topic and a plot. We all are interested in music so
that gave us use idea to use for the story. We also wanted an inspiring
story full of determination. We decided to design a story that had to do
with the struggles and hardships of a young man and how he had to
overcome many obstacles to get to the top. We came up with an
appropriate setting which ended up being Florida. We picked a lower
class part of Orlando to demonstrate a better idea of our lost and troubled
main character. Instead of starting the story at the beginning of the main
character’s hardships we created flashbacks of certain tragic events in
the character’s life, we did this because we wanted to make the story a
little more unique. The flashback events we built are unexpected and
random which we wanted to achieve.
The characters we created were somewhat motivated by some
characteristics of some people each of us know in real life. The mood of
the story we were looking changed throughout the story. The story went
from a discouraged, troubled and depressed mood and progressed into a
determined, exciting and hopeful mood. We came up Bleu 23 Studios by
combining a name of a studio we have heard of, Blue Crew Studios and
our favorite number, 23. We wanted our group name to be simple but
creative so we used the first initial in each of our last names Turner,
Himschoot and Pesavento to get T.H.P. but we wanted it to stand for
something else. We came up with True Hope Productions with tied into the
theme of our story which is why we went with a star for our logo.
Research
Treatment: Bleu 23
Scene 1
We hear music in the background of a rap mix. We see Eric, Dank, Todd
and Crockett are shown Bleu 23 recording studio in Orlando, FL,
passing around a blunt. The four friends smoke and joke with each
other. We then see famous rapper T-PAIN and a couple of his managers
walk into the studio. The guys are so confused and shocked that T-Pain
is standing in front of them. T-Pain explains that he heard the guys‟
mix tape and would like them to perform a few songs for him and so he
could possibly sign them. They ask T-Pain if they can have a minute
alone to discuss things. We see T-pain leave the room.
Scene 2
We see the guys turn to each other in amazement. Nervous and but
excited they talking and discussing the opportunity. Dank is feeling
discouraged about the whole situation. We see Eric pull him aside and
talk to Dank to motivate him. We see Dank walk back to the other three
men and continue talking. We see Eric walk in the other room and sit
down. He takes out his wallet from his back pocket and pulls out and
unfolds a worn picture of his best friend Frank. Eric sighs as he has
a flashback four years earlier at a high school house party.
Scene 3
We see Eric chugging a beer. We hear people in the background yelling
and chanting loudly. We see Eric‟s best friend Frank walk over to him
and comment on how drunk Eric is. We see Eric push his way through all
the partiers and walk out the door. We hear and see Frank from the
side of the house yell to Eric, but Eric ignores him and keeps walking
to his truck. We see Eric speed off down the road swerving in and out
of the lanes. Eric turns on his road and a thick fog sets in. We then
hear tires screech and a loud crash. Eric‟s truck hits three mailboxes
and flips down the road then stops upside-down. We then see Eric‟s
hand move as he manages to get himself out of the truck unharmed.
Scene 4
We hear ambulance and police sirens in the distance getting closer.
They pull up to the accident of Eric‟s truck. We see the neighbors
outside and Eric‟s mom rush to the scene. She starts to cry and makes
sure Eric is okay. We see the EMTs take Eric in the ambulance to make
sure he is okay.
Scene 5
We see Eric and his mom walk in the door of their house. Eric‟s dad is
sitting on the couch drunk. Eric and him begin to argue about the
accident. We see Eric slam the door of the house and walk outside to
his garage. He turns on his stereo and starts to write in his
notebook. We then hear a voice over of Dank yelling Eric‟s name. The
flashback gets interrupted and transitions into Scene 6.
Scene 6
We are brought back to the present where we see the men trying to get
Eric‟s attention. Eric quickly puts the picture away and joins his
friends in the other room. They all agree to perform for T-Pain. T-
Pain comes back in the recording studio. We see the men prepare the
equipment and sound booth to start recording. We see Eric sit down as
he has a flashback of another tragic incident that occurred a couple
years back.
Scene 7
We see Eric, Frank and a couple others doing serious drugs and
drinking in a living room. Things go too far as we see Frank pick up
his friend‟s gun and joke around with it. Not knowing there is bullet
lodged in the gun Frank continues to joke, we see him point the gun at
his head and pull the trigger. We hear a loud boom and the flashback
transitions into scene 8 back in the studio.
Scene 8
We see Eric jump from his seat as he snaps back to reality. We see
Crockett getting ready to record for T-Pain. We hear him start to rap
then slowly fade out and we see Eric again as he continues the
flashback of Frank.
Scene 9
We see Frank lying on the floor with blood everywhere. Eric and the
others run over to their unconscious friend. Everything becomes
chaotic as the boys panic and struggle to stop the bleeding and wake
Frank up. They call 911 but it is too late, Frank dies before the
paramedics show up. We see Eric still holding on to Frank‟s head as he
starts to cry. We then hear a voice over of loud shouting and the
scene transitions into Scene 10 back to the studio.
Scene 10
We see Crockett in the booth finishing his song as Dank and Todd cheer
for him. We see Eric quickly wipe the tears from his eyes and walk
over to Crockett and the others. T-Pain tells them he wants to hear
Dank record a song. The men motivate Dank and we see him walk back to
the booth. We see Eric and Dank look at each other as Eric yet again
has another flashback of the long journey of hardships he has had
through life.
Scene 11
We are brought to Eric drinking a case of Keystone alone in his
garage, listening to music and writing thoughts in his notebook as he
grieves the death of Frank. Then we see several of the same
transitions of Eric drinking continuously in his garage representing
the Eric‟s everyday habits after he loses his best friend.
Scene 12
We are still in Eric‟s flashback but a couple months post Frank‟s
death. Eric is still drinking heavily. We see Eric leave a party after
finishing a handle of vodka to himself. He starts to walk home along
some railroad tracks. A slow moving train is keeping him from crossing
the tracks. We see Eric try to jump up on the train but fails and
slips under the train as the train runs over him. We see Eric lying in
the middle of the tracks lifeless. The scene transitions into Scene
14.
Scene 13
We see Eric lying in the hospital bed as his friends and family
patiently wait for him to wake up. Minutes later Eric wakes up scared
and confused. We see the doctor come in and whisper to Eric that they
had to amputate his leg. Eric is devastated and pretty much gives up
at this point.
Scene 14
(Still in flashback)Over the next six months Eric becomes depressed.
He doesn‟t talk to anyone. He doesn‟t do anything but sit in his
garage and listen to music and write in his notebook. But one day Eric
finds an old picture of Frank, which makes him realize he can‟t sit
there and be depressed anymore. He promises “Frank” he will change his
life and be somebody. So he decides to take his thoughts he has
written in his notebook and turn them into songs and record them.
Scene 15
We see Eric walk into a recording studio downtown called Bleu 23. He
meets the owner, Dank, and his two friends Todd and Crockett. They all
really like Eric and what he has to offer. They invite Eric to write
and record with them. The four men become very close for the next
couple years. We see Eric, Dank, Todd and Crockett sitting around
talking. The flashback is then interrupted by voice over of Todd and
Crockett shouting loudly.
Scene 16
We are brought back to the present in the studio. We see Dank in the
booth finishing his song as Todd and Crockett yell and run and jump on
him. Eric comes out of his deep memories and rushes over to his
friends. They all congratulate Dank. T-pain interrupts them and tells
them they are signed. The men celebrate. They are so excited to have
finally made it. We see Eric pull out his picture of Frank and wave it
in the air as he continues to celebrate. Eric is finally able to
fulfill his promise to Frank and make him proud.
1 INT. RECORDING STUDIO-NIGHT 1
Inside Bleu 23 Studios in Orlando, Florida around 8 PM sit
ERIC “ECKO” ECKBERG, DANK a.k.a. BLACK MAGIC, KEVIN
CROCKETT a.k.a. KING CROCKETT, and TODD SAWYER a.k.a.
SUPERIOR in the recording room. Eric is talking about a few
new beat ideas he has while the four pass around a blunt.
As Dank takes a hit of the blunt, he begins to cough
profusely. Eric and the other two friends start to laugh
and make fun of him.
ERIC
Look at you Dank all asthmatic acting all hard,
puttin on a front, oh yeah, I remember my first
blunt.
DANK
Ha Ecko that‟s ironic I remember when you fell to
the floor on your first hit of chronic. You
tryna rap, I just nod and walk around with a fake
smile. Please, Eminem, when you takin‟ your ass
back to 8 mile?
Smoke fills the air as all the guys burst into laughter. As
they approve each other‟s insults they are irrupted as
someone opens the studio door. Their heads turn and jaws
drop in shock of famous music artist T-PAIN that walks in.
CROCKETT
Oh shit!
(he covers his mouth with his fist)
DANK
No way!
(he looks around in amazement)
T-PAIN
Hey ya‟ll. Are you Bleu 23?
ERIC
Uh...ya..uh..yes sir. Are you really T-Pain?
(with a confused smile on his face)
DANK
Man what‟s wrong witchu?
(as he turns and hits Eric hat on his head)
T-PAIN
(chuckles)
Yeah man I really am T-Pain. Someone gave me this
mixtape of ya‟ll, it‟s pretty dope. I wanted to
meet the people behind the voices and give ya‟ll
a shot.
(he hands Eric the mixtape)
CROCKETT
(there is a long silence in the room)
You mean you wanna hear us flow?
T-PAIN
Yessir. I think you guys got something different
that a hell of a lotta people would like.
DANK
(another long pause)
Uhhh Mr. Pain, is it okay if me and my boys take
a minute alone to talk right quick?
T-PAIN
Sure, go ahead fellas.
2 INT. RECORDING STUDIO-NIGHT 2
T-Pain leaves the room. As soon as the door closes behind
him, the 4 mens‟ true emotions start to show.
TODD
Oh my God! Can you believe this?!
ERIC
First, T-Pain comes into our studio and if that
wasn‟t enough, he wants to hear us live and
possibly sign us? Ahhh shhiittt!
DANK
Listen guys, I don‟t know if I can do this. Does
he realize we‟ve had no time to practice? We
ain‟t ready...
CROCKETT
Hold up, guys. This is our one chance we have
been tryin‟ for a few years now, we ain‟t ever
gonna get this opportunity again.
ERIC
He‟s right man. We‟ve been through to much to
throw this away. It‟s like everything we‟ve done
up to this point will be a waste. We can‟t let
this shit get away.
The men nod in agreement but Dank‟s mind seems to be in a
different world.
ERIC
Ay-yo Dank! Come over here.
(Eric pulls Dank aside)
ERIC
Listen man, this is huge for all of us,
especially you and me. You can‟t trip up now and
let the pressure get to you. You‟re Black Magic,
you got this. Hey, just pretend like it‟s me and
you.
DANK
I know, you‟re right. I just can‟t believe it‟s
been so long and it‟s all finally happening.
Okay, we got this, man.
They do their “handshake” and Dank walks back over to the
other three to continue talking.
ERIC
Ay, I‟ll be over there in a minute.
(he yells over and walks in the other room)
Eric sits down and takes a deep breath. He pulls out and
unfolds a worn picture of Eric and his best friend, Frank.
Eric sighs as he has a flashback four years earlier at a
senior high school house party.
3 INT. HOUSE PARTY-NIGHT
Eric is drinking at a party with his friend, Frank and a
few other friends. Eric has been drinking heavily and a
crowd of people are chanting in the background while he
chugs a beer
CROWD
Chug, Chug, Chug, Chug, Chug!
FRANK
Dude,that was your 8th one!
ERIC
God, I‟m so messed up. I just wanna go home.
Eric pushes his way through the crowd of partiers to get to
the door and stumbles down the front porch steps, nearly
spilling his drink.
FRANK
Ecko, you leavin‟ already? The party is just
gettin‟ started. You lame man. Well peace hit me
up tomorrow.
(As he shouts from the side of the house)
Eric ignores what Frank has to say and continues walking to
his truck. He struggles to unlock the door but drops his
keys. He makes an effort to pick them back up; he stumbles
and nearly falls over. Eric catches his balance and finally
opens the door to his truck and gets inside. Several times
he attempts to put his keys in the ignition. He finally
starts his car and pulls out of the driveway, speeding away
down the road. Barely staying conscious he swerves in and
out of the lanes struggling to make his way home. In an
attempt to stay focused he turns on the radio so loud that
it shakes the truck. As he approaches the long country road
near his house, a thick fog sets in over the road.
The roaring engine of the car slowly fades in from the
distance. Eric‟s tires start to screech and he ends up
crashing into a row of mailboxes flipping three times.
Miraculously Eric emerges his way out of his truck barely
injured. Neighbors nearby rush to see what has happened.
4 EXT. SCENE OF ACCIDENT-LATE NIGHT/EARLY MORNING 4
The police and paramedics finally arrive at the scene.
They pick him up and sit him on a stretcher, while asking
Eric questions, but since Eric is completely out of it he
cannot answer any of the questions. The ambulance rushes
Eric to the hospital. ERIC‟S MOM rushes in crying and hugs
her son. The doctors run tests on Eric but he is fine just
a few scratches.
5 INT. ERIC‟S HOUSE- EARLY MORNING 5
Eric and his Mom return to their house. ERIC‟S DAD is
sitting on the couch drunk. As Eric walks through the
living room his dad makes a comment.
ERIC‟S DAD
So you like fuckin‟ up don‟t you son?
Eric ignores him and continues walking past him.
ERIC‟S DAD
(knocking over a lamp)
Fuckin‟ answer me when I‟m talking to you.
ERIC
What Dad? What the fuck do you want me to say?
(turning to his dad)
ERIC‟S DAD
Well ya know Eric maybe you should quit your
drinkin and wake the hell up, ya almost damn near
died. You want to keep this up go ahead, I
guarantee you will end up killin yourself. You
need to get your ass in check and quit fuckin‟
around.
ERIC
Ha okay! So when are you going to stop fuckin‟ up
dad? I get from you. Ya fuckin alcoholic!
Eric and his dad continue to argue more. Eric gets very
upset and walks out of the house slamming the back door. He
walks to his garage in a rage kicking over a chair. He
turns on his stereo as loud as he can and sits at his deck.
He opens his notebook and starts to write in anger. There
is a sudden voice over of Dank yelling Eric‟s name.
6 INT. STUDIO-NIGHT 6
DANK
Ay yo Eric!
Dank yells Eric‟s name and Eric‟s flashback gets
interrupted. Eric gets up from the couch and joins the
men.
ERIC
Alright guys, this is our chance and I know it‟s
a lot of pressure but really can‟t fuck this one
up. I know we‟re getting really excited right now
but we gotta stay calm and relax. Now are we
gonna do this or what?
Crockett looks up at Eric.
CROCKETT
Okay, I‟ll go in the booth if you want. I feel
pretty good about this and I don‟t think the
pressure will get to me. What song do y‟all think
I should do?
TODD
Do “Love and Truth”. The beat‟s tight and you
gotta show off those lyrics man.
DANK
Definitely spit that track.
TODD
Yeah, that‟s that I was thinking too. Let‟s go
set everything up.
ERIC
Let‟s do it boys!
Eric says to the other men while putting his arms around
their shoulders. T Pain walks back into the studio.
T PAIN
So are you guys ready to wow me?
DANK
Yeah, we‟re just gonna set a few things up real
quick and then Crockett‟s gonna spit in the
booth.
The men go over to the recording equipment and adjust
buttons and volume levels to ensure that the quality of the
music and Crockett‟s voice sound as good as possible. T
Pain is standing behind them, watching them as they
meticulously prepare and adjust each and every knob in the
studio. Eric is finished adjusting most of the knobs and
takes a seat on the couch. Suddenly, he has another
flashback.
7 INT. FRIEND‟S HOUSE-NIGHT 7
Eric, Frank, and a few other friends are sitting around a
table in their friend‟s living room. On the table is a
variety of hardcore drugs. Everyone in the room is high,
drunk, and having a good time until things get out of hand.
On the side table next to him, Frank picks up his
girlfriends pistol.
FRANK
Put your hands up motherfuckers!
Frank jokingly points the gun at each person in the room
while giggling. Everyone in the room laughs.
FRIEND 1
Ha-ha, come on, put it down man.
Frank plays with the gun a little more in his hands,
tossing it back and forth and then pointing it to his head
and still smiling.
FRANK
Dude, you know this shit ain‟t loaded!
Right after these words come out of his mouth, he pulls the
trigger. The sound of the gunshot echoes.
8 INT. STUDIO-NIGHT 8
Eric comes back to reality from his flashback. He watches
Crockett as he gets ready to perform in front of T Pain.
CROCKETT
Hey Dank! Can you fix the input a little? Thanks,
man.
Crockett puts on his headphones and music fills the studio.
CROCKETT
“This ain‟t the first time and won‟t be my last.
I know I see my future but I can‟t forget my
past. They tell me all the time that life, it
moves fast. But I keep lookin‟ through my
rearview just to get near you…”
Crockett continues to rap as Eric fades back into the
flashback.
9 INT. FRIEND‟S HOUSE- NIGHT 9
Frank is lying on the floor with a puddle of blood
surrounding him.
ERIC
Oh my God! Oh my God! Frank!
FRIEND 1
What the fuck?! Holy shit!
Eric and his friend quickly run over to Frank‟s side but
Frank is unresponsive.
ERIC
Wake up Frank! Wake up please! Call 911! Hurry!
Eric‟s friend frantically pulls out his cell phone and
dials 911 while his hands are shaking. One of his friends
takes Frank‟s pulse.
FRIEND 1
I‟m not getting anything! There‟s no pulse!
Frank is holding Frank‟s head in his hands and beings to
cry.
ERIC
You can‟t leave me like this, man!
Eric pulls Frank closer to him and begins to sob.
ERIC
Frank! Don‟t go!
10 INT. STUDIO- NIGHT 10
Eric is shaken out of his flashback by seeing that Crockett
is finishing his rap. Behind Crockett are Dank and Todd who
nod approvingly. Eric wipes the tears from his face, gets
up and walks over to the other men.
TODD
He killed it!
DANK
Damn, I didn‟t think he had it in him.
T-Pain comes over to the men.
T PAIN
Your boy Crockett‟s gotta sick flow. So Dank, you
rap too, right? You‟re on!
DANK
Uh, alright. I got it, I got it. I‟m straight.
Dank begins to walk towards the booth. As Dank is walking,
Eric and Dank quickly glance at each other and Eric is
brought back into another flashback.
11 INT. ERIC‟S GARAGE- NIGHT 11
Eric is alone in his garage, drinking a case of beer with
his music drowning out the outside world. He is focused
while writing lyrics in his notebook. We see several
different images of Eric as a progression of time. This
takes place over multiple days and weeks so there are
slight changes in lighting, his wardrobe, and overall
appearance. As he is writing, he gets increasingly
frustrated.
ERIC
Fuck!
Eric angrily throws his beer can across the garage.
12 EXT. NEIGHBORHOOD-NIGHT 12
A few months have passed his Frank‟s death and Eric‟s
drinking is getting worse and worse. Eric walks out of a
friend‟s 21st birthday party finishing a handle of vodka he
had been drinking on all night. He starts walking down the
dark lonely street toward some railroad tracks he stumbles
over his feet. There is a train moving slowly down the
tracks. Eric becomes impatient and wants to get across to
the other side to get home. He decides to try and jump on
the side of the train. He is so delirious and uncoordinated
that he loses his balance and slips off. His legs get
sucked under the train and starts to drag him down the
tracks. He is finally left lying in the middle of the
tracks lifeless. His body numb, Eric blacks out from shock.
13 INT. HOSPITAL ROOM-EARLY MORNING 13
Eric lies unconscious in the hospital bed. His family and
friends hopefully and nervously wait for him to wake up.
One of Eric‟s friends whispers to another friend.
ERIC‟S FRIEND
I can‟t believe we let him walk alone. What was
he thinking?
A little more time passes by and Eric‟s eyes begin to
slowly open. He looks around in confusion with a worried
look on his face. He notices that something that is not
right, he looks down toward the end of the bed at his leg
and starts to panic. He realizes that his leg from his knee
down is missing. In his own world of shock, Eric‟s friends
and family are relieved that he is finally awake.
ERIC‟S MOM
Oh thank God Eric. I thought you were gone for
good.
(grabbing his hand to hold)
ERIC‟S FRIEND
Man dude don‟t scare us like that ever again! You
are one crazy and lucky son of a bitch.
Eric still in shock, doesn‟t know what to say or think.
ERIC
What the fuck happened? What is going on?
(talking quickly and sweating)
Everyone looks around speechless. They don‟t know how to
explain the horrible incident to him. Then the DOCTOR walks
in cautiously over to Eric and whispers in his ear to break
the obvious news to him.
DOCTOR
(whispering)
I‟m sorry to tell you this son, but we had to
amputate your leg. The train crushed your leg so
hard that you lost all blood flow in your leg. We
are going to order you a top of the line
prosthetic though and you could be walking
hopefully in 6 months.
Eric looks at his doctor with disbelief. He is devastated.
He shuts his eyes as his head falls back on his pillow.
14 INT. ERIC‟S GARAGE- NIGHT 14
Elapsed time shows Eric spending the majority of his time
depressed and alone in the garage. His face becomes tired,
his hair becomes loner and he doesn‟t shave often.
ERIC
“I swear this life is sometimes way too much to
bear, that‟s why I go by five words „fuck it, I
don‟t care‟, people reach out their hands hopin‟
I take their help, but I‟ll just push „em away
cuz I don‟t need nobody but myself. All I need is
good weed, booze and some new beats. Hell is no
near to me, I can almost feel the heat‟.
Eric is writing and rapping to himself as he takes a hit of
a blunt. He begins to cough and drops his blunt to the
ground.
ERIC
Shit!
Eric is searching the ground for the lit blunt when his
hand comes across old photograph. He lifts up the picture
and stares at it for a while; it is of him and Frank
goofing off from a few years back. Tears well up in his
eyes as he realizes that Frank would never want Eric to
live his life this way.
15 EXT- STREETS OF ORLANDO INT- BLEU 23 STUDIO 15
Eric is walking down an Orlando street, with his headphones
blaring as he approaches the Bleu 23 Studio. He looks at
the Bleu 23 sign above him, takes a deep breath, and opens
the front door. Inside Crockett, Dank, and Todd are
relaxing and leisurely editing songs.
CROCKETT
Yeah, dude, that‟s a good idea. Add that piano
instrumental and slow it down in the second
verse.
DANK
Eric Eckberg, right? What‟s up, man? I‟m Dank and
this is Crockett and Todd.
The men shake hands.
TODD
What‟s goin on? We‟ve been looking forward to
meeting you. We really felt that email you sent
us of your work.
ERIC
Thanks. It‟s what I love and live to do.
DANK
Eric, you wanna come with me in the other room
and we can talk a lil bit?
ERIC
Yeah, sure.
DANK
Alright man, Follow me.
In the meantime, Crockett and Todd are talking about Eric‟s
overall musical talent.
CROCKETT
When I heard that beat with the violins and deep
bass, I knew I had to spit over that. It was like
Timbaland‟s beats but even more original.
TODD
I know! I don‟t know where he gets his ideas for
lyrics and beats. Did you read the lyrics for
love and truth? That was real deep.
The men continue to chat about Eric until Dank and Eric
come out of the other room laughing.
DANK
Fellas, I have an announcement to make. I would
like to officially welcome Eric Eckberg to Bleu
23.
The men all have smiles on their face as they congratulate
Eric and shake up with him. This is the day that turned
everything around.
16 INT. STUDIO-EVENING 16
It transitions back to Dank finishing up his song in the
recording booth. Crockett and Todd come into the scene to
congratulate him on his performance.
CROCKETT
Damn, Dank you really proved yourself in there!
TODD
I really think you sealed the deal.
DANK
Thanks guys. I hope so.
Eric joins the men and congratulates Dank on his
performance.
ERIC
Yeah man you went off on that second verse just
like we talked about. I‟m real proud of ya.
As the men are talking, T Pain enters the room and walks
towards them with a grin on his face. The men quickly quiet
down and give T Pain their undivided attention.
T PAIN
Alright guys, here‟s the deal. I think there‟s a
couple things you need to work on… but I‟d like
to sign you guys with me. Your beats are so fresh
and your lyrics are basically the perfect balance
between mainstream and underground which is
exactly what I‟m looking for. So what do ya say?
The men look at one another in disbelief and jump up and
down with excitement.
T PAIN
Um, I‟ll take that as a yes.
T Pain says while chuckling. Eric and Dank start to laugh
and embrace.
ERIC
We did it, man!
After Dank pulls away, Eric pulls the picture of him and
Frank out of his pocket, looks down at it, and can‟t help
but grin.
