Company Overview Engro Corporation has a diverse portfolio consisting of six businesses, including fertilizers, foods, chemical storage & handling, trading, energy and petrochemicals. Integrated in the agricultural sector and reaching out to over 1.5 million farmers, the company provides PKR 77 billion of farm inputs and procures PKR 19 billion of farm produce, converting it to consumer food products which provide convenience, hygiene and nutrition to over 5.5 million consumers each day, every day. Producing low cost electricity from flared gas for millions of Pakistanis, developing indigenous power production, the company is well placed to help Pakistan overcome energy crisis. Technology Offered Systems Limited proposed the development of a detailed Employee Self Service Portal to increase the social interaction within employees and to automate various business processes in order to take the organization towards an environ- ment-friendly paperless culture and optimize the operations of various departments. The Employee Self Service (ESS) that we developed included a fully integrated portal, HR content management module, page templates, and search engine, specifically designed to optimize SharePoint and enable efficient long-term, site operations and support. It also enabled rapid and low-cost creation of web pages and sub-sites. The portal covered a wide range of organizational processes, including HR, Compen- sation and Benefits, General Accounting, Finance and Information Services. Our exceptional and configurable solution provided the client’s employees a single unified interface for executing their operational processes online and thus, helped them in reducing the learning curve for users. Moreover, a separate web services platform was developed for interaction between SAP and ESS to utilize SAP Business Application Interfaces (BAPI) in order to pull information - regarding employees, salaries, organizational hierarchy, and other similar data required in different processes. ESS, in general, also covers processes that involve publishing data back into SAP, similar web service, which acts as a bridge to successfully post the data back into the system. Systems Limited automated the following processes: Expense Reimbursement for Employee Medical Payments Travel Requests Final Settlements Resettlement Allowance Application Various Health and Safety Measures Systems Limited also developed a dynamic dashboard that enabled users to view their Work Queue, , initiated current outstanding process (es) history, and companywide announcements. Benefits The integration of portal has helped Engro Foods optimize various business operations and shift towards a paperless environment. Other benefits include: A simple, familiar, and consistent user experience, which is tightly integrated with SharePoint Server 2010 has simplified how people interact with content, processes, and business data. This tight integration, coupled with robust out-of-the-box functionality has helped them employ services themselves and facilitate product adoption. Engro Foods has leveraged out-of-the-box workflows to initiate, track, and report common business activities such as document review and approval, issue tracking, and signature collection. It has also enabled users to complete these activities without any coding. Performance Appraisal and Development Plans has enabled the company to monitor employee’s KPI and their performance on the given factors, competencies, behavioral traits etc. Performance Ratings are linked to training and development plans, compensation, bonuses, promotions and succession plans within the organization. This customized, in-depth reporting provides the use of this data for various workforce analysis, planning, process governance business processes.

Health and Safety has automated incident reporting, plant and production processes and environmental safety processes, with escalations and notifications to critical area owners. This has further made monitoring and transparency of remote locations easier and real-time.

Comprehensive control over content has helped them meet regulatory requirements. By specifying security settings, storage policies, auditing policies, and expiration actions for business records in accordance with compliance regulations, the company is now well enabled to ensure that their sensitive business information can be controlled and managed effectively. This has also helped them reduce litigation risks for the company. Tight integration of SharePoint Server 2010 with familiar desktop applications has rendered policy settings onto client applications in the Microsoft Office system, making it simpler for employees to be aware of and comply with regulatory requirements.

Effective management and repurposing of content to gain increased business value is now made possible. Users can now create and submit content for approval and schedule deployment to intranet or Internet sites. Managing multilingual content for the company is simplified through new document library templates that are specifically designed to maintain a relationship between the original version and different translations of a document.

Organization-wide access to both structured and unstructured information across disparate systems has become simplified. Users now have access to business data found in common line-of-business systems like SAP through SharePoint Server 2010. Users can also create personalized views and interactions with business systems through a browser by dragging configu-rable back-end connections. Enterprise-wide Managed Document Repositories has helped the company store and organize business documents in one central location.

People with information and expertise are connected. The Enterprise Search feature in SharePoint Server 2010, which incorporates business data along with information about documents, people, and web pages, has helped the users to produce comprehensive, relevant results. Features like duplicate collapsing, spelling corrections, and alerts have also improved the relevance of the results, enabling them to easily find what they require.

Accelerated Shared Business Processes Across Organizational Boundaries. Users can now use smart, electronic forms–driven solutions to collect critical business informa-tion from customers, partners, and suppliers through a Web browser without coding any custom applications. Built-in data validation rules have helped the company gather accurate and consistent data that can be directly integrated into back-end systems to avoid redundancy and errors that result from manual data re-entry.

Sharing of Business Data without Divulging Sensitive Information is now made easier. The company is now well enabled to give its employees access to real-time, interactive Microsoft Office Excel spreadsheets from a Web browser through Excel Services running on SharePoint Server 2010. They can now use these spreadsheets to maintain and efficiently share one central and up-to-date version while helping to protect any proprietary information embedded in the documents (such as financial models).

Business-Critical Information in One Central Location has enabled Engro Foods to create live, interactive portals that assemble and display business-critical information from disparate sources, using the portal’s capabili-ties such as dashboards, Web Parts, scorecards, key performance indicators (KPIs), and business data connectivity technologies. Centralized Report Center sites have now made locating the latest reports, spreadsheets, or KPIs easier for users.

There is now a Single, Integrated Platform to Manage Intranet, Extranet, and Internet Applications across the enterprise. SharePoint Server 2010 is built on an open, scalable architecture, with support for Web services and interoperability standards including XML and Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP). The server has rich, open application program-ming interfaces (APIs) and event handlers for lists and documents. These features have enabled integration with existing systems and the flexibility to incorporate new non-Microsoft IT investments.
