Czech Nurse for General Care
• Qualification education compatible with Dir. EU/2005/36 since 2005
• Curriculum includes 4 600 hours, 50% theory and 50% practice
• Program lasts 3 years, at tertiary level
2 routes qualification system
• Studies at a University – Bachelor of Nursing Degree In the future the only route? better academic preparation, students can continue in MA,
PhD programs
• Studies at a ‚higher schools of nursing‘ community college – diploma
Better practical preparation of students, easier access
Typical schooling path of a Czech nurse
• 3-6 years of age - Kindergarden• 6-15 years of age – Grammar School• 15-19 years of age – High School • 19-22 years of age – Qualification as General care
nurse (at a university or a higher school)• Compulsory CPD• Specialization (critical care, perioperative nursing,…)• MA program (management in health care, pegagody,
…)• PhD program
Master´s studies for nurses
• Popular, many programs available (public and private schools)
• Management of health care, leadership• Pedagogy in Nursing – currently not available• Clinical fields (e.g. long term care) – ín reality does not
increase competencies• Efficient use of the graduates potential
PhD studies
• Sometimes obtained in related disciplines (psychology, sociology)
• Few PhD programs in Nursing in Czech Republic• Cooperation with Slovakia• Employed by Universities as teachers of nursing • Stronger role also in practice?
Nursing Teachers
• Educated in MA program at a University since the 60ies in the Czech Republic
