Syllabus for First Term Session 2019-20 Grade 5 English : Speaking and Listening skills: Students learn how to speak for a variety of purposes, such as to explain, describe, narrate and analyse. They will use a range of vocabulary and practise speaking fluently and clearly. Use speaking and listening as a method of preparing for written assignments, exploring a wide range of subject matter with precision and effect. Following will be emphasized: Extempore speech , role play, and debate. Reading Skills: Select from a range of strategies and use the most appropriate ways to locate, retrieve and compare information and ideas from a variety of texts. Develop interpretations of texts, supporting points with detailed textual evidence. The marks obtained from Listening , Speaking ,Reading and writing assessment will be added with internal assessment. Internal assessment will be based on class work, homework and projects and will add up to 10%. The Examination will be out of 40 marks which will include a Reading Comprehension Passage (unseen) with questions,(Language usage, questions). Syllabus for First Term

Session 2019-20

Grade 5

English :

• Speaking and Listening skills: Students learn how to speak for a variety of purposes, such as to explain, describe, narrate and analyse. They will use a range of vocabulary and practise speaking fluently and clearly.

Vocabulary: Students will be expected to solve word power questions such as Homophones, Synonyms,

Antonyms and Homonyms.

Figurative Language: Simile, metaphor.

Spellings: Students will be expected to write the correct spellings of the frequently used words.

Idioms: Students will be asked to use the given idioms to frame meaningful sentences.

Literature:

Questions will be set on: analyzing the characters, analyzing the plot, the theme,registering personal

interpretation of the characters, the plot, the theme explaining in reference to the context.
