(A.A.)threehoursperweek.Prerequisite:ENC1101orappropriatescoreonEnglishplacementtest.Collegelevelreadingandwriting.ENC1101helpspreparestudentsforacademicworkbyemphasizingexpositorywriting,thebasicsoflibraryresearch,andtheconventionsofacademicdiscourse.Thecourseemphasizesargument,research,andstyle.Throughitsemphasisonthinkingrhetorically,providingevidenceforassertions,creativethinking,andwritingasaprocess,1102willpreparestudentsforargumentandresearchbasedwritinginacademicsettings.BothENC1101andENC1102explorethefoundationsofknowledgeandlearningasoutlinedbyUSF'sGeneralEducationPlan.Bothcoursesteachstudentslearntothinkrhetorically,tounderstandandemployavarietyofwritingstrategies,toconductresearch,andtointerpret,critique,summarize,andparaphrasetexts.Thiscoursemeetsthe6,000wordGordonRulerequirement.



GORDONRULE

ThiscoursemeetstheFloridaStateBoardofEducationRuleNumber6A10.30.Inaccordancewiththisrule,studentswillcompletesixsemesterhoursofEnglishandsixsemesterhoursofadditionalcourseworkinwhichthestudentmustdemonstratecollegelevelwritingskills.AgradeofCorbetterisrequiredforcreditinGordonRuleclasses.

COURSEGOALS

CommunicationPreparestudentsforrealworldsituationsthatrequirepowerfulandeffectiveoralandwrittencommunicationintraditionalandemergentmedia.

CriticalThinkingDevelopcritical,constructive,andreflectivethinkerswhoanalyze,interpret,evaluate,anddecidewhattobelieveanddo.
