SEMESTER: 1st TYPE: Basic Training CONTEXT AND AIMS OF THE SUBJECT: ASCE, the American Society of Civil Engineers defines Civil Engineering as The profession in which a knowledge of the mathematical and physical sciences gained by study, experience, and practice is applied with judgment to develop ways to utilize, economically, the materials and forces of nature for the progressive well-being of humanity in creating, improving, and protecting the environment; in providing facilities for community living, industry, and transportation; and in providing structures for the use of humanity. This course is intended for students majoring in civil engineering. This introductory physics subject has the main objective of provide the student with a clear presentation of the basic concepts and principles of waves, thermodynamics and electromagnetism and their application to solving problems of civil engineering. It is essential that the students understand the fundamental concepts and principles of thermodynamics, waves and electromagnetism, and how to apply them. The ability to solve problems will be one of the main tests of their knowledge of physics. Physics is based on experimental observation for this reason, in this course of fundamentals of physics, the understanding of the basic concepts and principles is supplemented by performing various types of experimental in the laboratory. The topics in this course are presented in the following sequence: CONTENTS:
