FLEET SURPASSESLOCOG TARGET.As the Official Automotive Partner to the London 2012 Olympic andParalympic Games, BMW and its dealers are working with LOCOG, localcommunities and athletes to make both the Olympic Torch Relay and theLondon 2012 Games an operational success and the most sustainable ever.

BMW was appointed as the Official Automotive Partner because of its abilityto provide a fleet of fuel-efficient vehicles with average emissions of 120g/kmCO2. However BMW exceeded that target and delivered a fleet of more than4,000 vehicles with an average 116g/km of CO2 and 64.5mpg (combined).Achieving such outstanding fuel efficiency is due to a range of BMWEfficientDynamics technologies and the revolutionary electric technology thatfeatures in several models. These include the BMW 5 Series ActiveHybridand the BMW ActiveE concept vehicle, which was one of the BMW modelsthat accompanied the 8,000 torchbearers during the 70-day Olympic TorchRelay.

The BMW fleet will ensure the right people are in the right place at the righttime, across more than 30 venues in London and beyond. Duties will alsoinclude pulling boats out of the water at Weymouth, providing mobile cameraplatforms for the marathon, towing a horse ambulance across Greenwich Parkand carrying medal winners around the Olympic Park for media interviews.

Beyond providing essential mobility during the Games, for the past 18 monthsBMW and its dealers have been supporting around 150 British athletes aspart of the BMW London 2012 Performance Team programme, offering themvital mobility to and from events that will take them on their journey to London2012.

LOCOG chair, Sebastian Coe, wants 'no stone left unturned'.

IN CONVERSATION WITHSEB COE."We couldn't have wanted a better partner."It's almost impossible to imagine a better candidate thanSeb Coe to head the London 2012 Games. Aside frombeing recognised as an Olympic gold medallist and for hismedia, business, political, diplomatic experience, Seb'spassion and enthusiasm for a project ten years in themaking is relentless.

For most of us, a decade of Seb's schedule would beboth physically and mentally exhausting but for the 12-time world record holder it's business as usual. "It'sfabulous working with dedicated people who arepassionate about what they do," he says. "It never feelslike a sacrifice. It's an amazing opportunity but you onlyget one chance to get it right."

So what does 'right' look like? Much has been talkedabout London 2012 being the world's first sustainablegames and LOCOG has already beaten many of itstargets on urban generation, Zero to Waste landfill andgreen energy.

How does Seb want the world to remember London2012? "I'd like people to say that we delivered a 'greatsporting event', that we left no stone unturned. I wantpeople to be proud to be British and for the world to seeus as a modern, confident nation. As a former competitor,I want us to finish in pole position!"

Seb is keen to stress that none of this would be possiblewithout the support of LOCOG's corporate partners, such

as BMW, which has not only helped fund the project butwhose people have worked with them to meet theirsustainability and legacy commitments.

The BMW fleet, for example, has exceeded LOCOG'slow emissions target. "We could not have wanted abetter automotive partner than BMW. Not simply throughthe complexities of transportation, which is at theepicentre of this project, but through the teams of peoplewho have thrown themselves into the Games. It'sfantastic that our partners are so committed andpassionate."

What advice can a twice Olympic champion offer thisyear's athletes? "There will be disappointments and set-backs among the highs. But you'll also have the best timeof your life and make lasting friendships."

And when it's all over? What's next for the man at thehelm? "I'm not planning much very quickly," he says,unable to even contemplate a time without London2012. "No-one involved is. When you're in the last fewweeks of something you've been doing for nearly adecade you just focus on the here and now."

What a day Saturday 30 June turned out to be! Justdays before the Olympic Torch Relay passed within afew miles of Peterborough we celebrated themomentous occasion here in the dealership with ourown Olympic Torch Relay event.

We were absolutely thrilled to see so many of ourcustomers bringing the London 2012 Games to life herein Peterborough. We were lucky enough to have aLondon 2012 Olympic Torch in the dealership for just afew hours and nearly 350 customers were able to havetheir photograph taken holding the Torch. Everyone wasin great spirits and particularly enjoyed meeting our localathlete, Matt Gunby.

OLYMPIC SPRINTERRACES A BMW.

Olympic gold medallist andBMW London 2012Performance Team athlete,Mark Lewis-Francis,demonstrated the parallels ofacceleration as he racedagainst a BMW 320dEfficientDynamics on TheMall in London. Mark, whowon an Olympic gold medal

at Athens 2004 in the 4 x 100m relay, was able toaccelerate away from the starting blocks faster than theBMW, keeping ahead almost up to the 30 metre mark.The power of the 3 Series then took control, completingthe 100 metre challenge in 7.5 seconds compared toMark's 10.04 seconds.

Speaking after the race, Mark said: "People regularly askme to explain how I can run so fast and what the crucialelements of our technique really are. Today has shownjust how important those small efficiencies are and howthey equally relate to engineering in cars. I did not expectto be able to outrun the BMW for so long!"
