MA GlassCourse Description:The MA Glass course builds upon the School’s 78 years of experience asthe only specialist School of Architectural Glass in the UK. The masterscourse aims to develop practice that is concerned with re-evaluatingarchitectural glass traditions, conventions and value systems. It is thisrigorous re-interpretation process, both physical and psychological, thatwill inevitably define the parameters of the individual student's personalstudy. Glass offers some remarkable properties, not least transparencyand durability. These have been exploited in the architectural context forthousands of years. Huge advances have been made in glass technology, and it would seem that the possibilities of the material grow daily ratherthan diminish. The pace of change is such that it has made it difficult forthe practitioner to keep abreast of new developments. This MA providesthe opportunity to explore these new possibilities and knowledge as wellas developing new skills and approaches to working in glass. This course is ideally suited to applicants who are involved with or whohave a background in the applied and decorative arts though candidatesfrom a wide variety of design backgrounds will be considered.
