In the last week of the training I had to analyse the collected
data into a suitableform showing the interests of the customers,
basic areas of the sales, itslimitations-very software provides us
facility to work fast and easy way. There are many otherbenefits of
different software. Like different softwares, tally was also made
by tally
solution co. for the benefit of professional accountants. But,
still there are manydisadvantages of tally. This article is not
criticism of Indias no. one branded ac countingsoftware. But, this
article is written for all tally experts and tally solutionsoftware
company, so that after knowing defect, we can be over all default
of tally andmake it no. one accounting software in the world
market.
1. I have used tally for many years and I feel that it is not as
easy as excel or ms word ofMicrosoft Company. Because, excel and ms
word can learn by himself. But even senioraccountants, if they do
not know how to operate, they can also mistake in maintaining
ofaccounts in tally.
2. There is no improvement in old version of tally. Tally
Company islaunching newversion one by one from tally 4.5 to tally
9. It is one of most disadvantage of tally thatthe expert in old
version of tally can not get improvement in same version. Suppose I
amexpert in tally 7.2 and tally launch new version tally 8.1 and
tally 9. But tally Co. is notcare for improving tally 7.2. But now
aftermigration facility from tally 7.2 to tally 9isgood step of
Tally Company for removing this advantage.
3. Tally 9s making and maintain system of budgeting is no so
advance. There is noprovision of capital budgeting in tally 9 with
different methodsof capital budgeting.
4. Tally does not provide one button of default setting of this
software. I explain thisdemerit as suppose a new customer purchased
tally for maintaining accounts on it andhe has changed some setting
of features and configuration after this , if his accountantfound
something wrong in tally , there is no one button to correct it
because withoutdeleting ledger and voucher , you can return to
default setting of feature menu .
5. Tally support system is no so effective. There is still need
to improve to the supportsystem of tally. So that training of this
software becomes simple.
After getting the various disadvantages of the software and
analyzing them I studied thevarious attributes which the customers
require from an accounting software,
VARIOUS VERSIONS OF TALLY Tally 4.5Tally was started with is
first version ofTally 4.5, which was a DOS based program. This
program was very light weight and very fast in operation.
Tally 5.4The next version was 5.4 which was graphic interface
version. It became popular in the masses.Its pirated copy made it
most popular accounting software.
Tally 6.3Next version was tally 6.3 which was truly windows
based version which could support fastprinting and with VAT
implemented. Tally 6.3 came with water tight security in terms of
piracy.With its dongle it was almost impossible to crack. Although
crack of software were available butTally's policy of frequent
upgrades and newer releases does the trick.

Tally 7.2Next version of Tally was Tally 7.2. It was also fast
version with lots fo new feature like statutorycompliant versions.
Different VAT rules for different states was achieved with this
version.
Tally 8.1Tally 8.1 was developed with new data structure of
Tally. A module of POS and Payroll wasadded to it. It could not
live up to the expectations with the people and marred by bugs.
Company
rectified many but the version could not become popular and
company has to abort it before timeand launch new version.
Tally 9This is the latest version of Tally which has maximum
features. All other versions have beendeclared end of life period
by Tally company. Tally 9 has advance features like Excise for
Dealers, Payroll, FBT, TDS, e-TDS filing facility etc along wit
its regular features related toaccounting and inventory
management.
I was also asked to provide with the suggestions for the
promotion and importance ofthe product.
