SDG 12 data from Asian VNRs (16 countries)

✓ 16 out 20 Asian countries which have conducted VNRs have included data on SCP including on polices (most reporting on 12.1, 12.4 & 12.8)

✓ Seven countries have provided quantitative data including percentage of energy saved, expenditure on SPP & percentage of waste recycled

✓ Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Thailand have provided the most data – which means that countries with SCP NAPs could report more

✓ Nine countries have reported on policies, including SCP NAPs and individual sectoral SCP policies, some referring to implementation

✓ Monitoring the implementation of these policies is difficult due to absence of clear indicators and lack of data

✓ Five countries have reported on SPP policies, including in some cases expenditure on these policies

How we measure success

SDG 12: Ensure Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns

Target 12.1: Implement the 10-year framework of programmes on sustainable consumption and production, all countries taking action, with developed countries taking the lead, taking into account the development and capabilities of developing countries

Success indicator: *Number of governments and other organisations developing, adopting, or implementing policy instruments aimed at supporting the shift to SCP.

Globally, 71 countries and the EU reported on SDG 12.1 in 2016-17 through this global indicator framework

Inter-ministerial committee on Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP)chaired by Ministry of Environment (2014), initially to develop a NationalProgramme on SCP and facilitate implementation

Core functions of the Committee• Provide and validate information on SCP;• Host and coordinate work groups to address specific topics on SCP;• Develop National SCP Programme;• Develop an Action Plan for this programme;• Secure and apply resources to implement;• Track implementation, meet targets and deadlines and disseminate results.
