The reduction of greenhouse gas emissions is a key task

of the 21st century in order to keep the global temperature

rise at an acceptable level. The power sector, especially,

has to undergo a fundamental transformation towards a

fully renewable energy supply in the years to come.

With a development that is moving towards a 100 %

renewable energy supply, biomass has to take on a new

role. In the future, biomass needs to support a system

driven by the intermittent electricity production from

wind turbines and photovoltaic plants. Biomass can

act both as a backup and as storage capacity for such a

system. In order to get there, technical, economic and

ecologic issues need to be addressed.

The conference “Sustainable Biomass in the Context of

100 % Renewable Energy Supply” sets the course for the

upcoming challenges in the biogas sector. It is the first in

a row of annual conferences on 100 % Renewable Energy

Systems and 100 % Climate Protection hosted by the

Universities in Flensburg and Sønderborg, Project Zero

Sønderborg and Klimapakt Flensburg. This conference is

co-hosted by Aalborg University.

The conference will be a venue for inspiring insights

and lively discussions for experts from industry, politics,

associations, and research and development institutions.
