    MR NATHAN COOMBS Mr Coombs is the Senior Consultant Breast Surgeon with 20 years’ experience in breast surgery, endocrine surgery and general surgery. He is one of only six UK specialist breast surgeons who are able to o#er intra-operative radiotherapy (IORT), He is passionate about minimally invasive surgery and specialises in day-case breast cancer techniques that preserve the aesthetics of the breast without compromising cancer outcomes.

    MS ANUSHKA CHAUDHRY Ms Chaudhry specialises in breast cancer surgery including reconstruction and cosmetic breast surgery. As well as this, she performs risk reducing surgery for breast cancer and surgery for benign breast disease in both men and women. She also o#ers free mini-consultations for those considering their options in cosmetic breast surgery. She completed her Oncoplastic Fellowship at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital where she gained unique insights into both plastic and oncological breast surgery. This type of surgery allows the most e#ective treatment for breast cancers, whilst preserving cosmetic and functional outcomes wherever possible. She is the Undergraduate Lead for General Surgery for the University of Bristol and sits on the Education and Training Committee at the Association of Breast Surgery.

    CARDIOLOGYDR EDWARD BARNES Dr Barnes qualified from Charing Cross and Westminster Hospital in 1990 with honours. He undertook his cardiology training in Bristol and at the Hammersmith Hospital where he was awarded a Wellcome Research Fellowship. He is currently the clinical lead for cardiology at The Great Western Hospital after being appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist in Swindon in 2002. Experienced in all aspects of adult cardiology, he has a particular interest in chest pain, coronary artery disease, coronary stenting, heart failure and breathlessness, palpitations and blackouts as well as heart valve problems.

    DR BADRI CHANDRASEKARAN Experienced in all aspects of general cardiology, cardiac catheterisation, arrhythmia management, complex pacing, valvular heart disease and heart failure. Dr Chandrasekaran graduated from Guys & St Thomas’ Medical school with honours and worked in Cambridge and Papworth where he decided to specialise in Cardiology. His research MD from Imperial College was in heart failure, device therapy and biomarkers and this was undertaken at the Royal Brompton Hospital where Dr Chandrasekaran was awarded the Robert Lu# Fellowship. He completed his training with advanced fellowships in heart failure and electrophysiology at the Wessex Cardiothoracic Centre in Southampton. Delighted to return to Swindon as a consultant in 2011, he is the lead for echocardiography and has set up the stress echo and 3D echo service. He is also the educational lead for echocardiology training at GWH and the educational lead for echo training in the Severn Deanery. Active in research studies he has implanted the first 4 lead pacemakers in the U.K and is the Clinical Director for Research and Innovation at GWH.

    DR PAUL FOLEY Dr Foley qualified in 1997 and was appointed as a consultant at The Great Western Hospital in 2009. Dr Foley specialises in heart failure and rhythm issues and sees patients with breathlessness, chest pain, palpitations, and blackouts. He is one of the specialists in pacemaker & defibrillator implant (including His Bundle Pacing) implantation. He also works with the dedicated cardiology research team dedicated to clinical trials.

    DR TOM HYDE As well as being a highly experienced general cardiologist, Dr Hyde has a specialist interest in the prevention and management of coronary artery disease. He has worked at the Great Western Hospital as a consultant since 2006. He is approachable, available and has had positive feedback about his consulting style.

    DR WILLIAM MCCREA Dr McCrea specialises in cardiac infections, palpitations, blackouts, dizzy spells, cardiac valve disease, chest pains, congenital heart disease and arrhythmias. He has produced numerous articles on syncope and pre-hospital coronary care and management of heart attacks.

    DR STEVE RAMCHARITAR Dr Ramcharitar is a Consultant Cardiologist who specialises in the diagnoses and treatment of coronary artery disease. He was an Oxford Pre-Clinical Advisor Scholar and holds PhDs in Basic Science and Interventional Cardiology. He trained in Interventional Cardiology at the Thoraxcenter in Rotterdam and at the Glenfield Hospital in Leicester. Has published extensively on the understanding of the aetiology of coronary disease and evaluating various imaging and stenting technologies. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the European Society of Cardiology. Although Dr Ramcharitar’s main interest is in coronary intervention, he sees patients with general cardiac conditions such as breathlessness, palpations, unexplained collapses, chest pains and valvular disease.

    DERMATOLOGY

    DERMATOLOGYDR SAM GIBBS Dr Sam Gibbs studied medicine at Cambridge University and the Middlesex Hospital and subsequently trained in General Medicine and General Practice prior to specialising in dermatology. He has been a Consultant in dermatology since 2001 and has worked at the Great Western Hospital since 2010. He is a General Dermatologist with a special interest in medical dermatology, cutaneous infections and tropical dermatology.

    DR MOHAMED ALRAWI Dr Alrawi was appointed Consultant Dermatologist at the Great Western Hospital in May 2011 after graduating from Baghdad University, College of Medicine and undertaking his general medical training in Ireland. Dr Alrawi completed his specialist dermatology training in Dublin, Belfast, Cardi# and Bristol, and is fully trained in all aspects of general dermatology. He takes particular interest in the management of skin cancer and dermatological surgery.

    DR LINDSEY WHITTAMDr Whittam was appointed as a consultant in dermatology in Swindon in 2000 and is currently the Clinical Lead for this specialty. Dr Whittam has a special interest in paediatric dermatology and skin cancer. She graduated from London University in 1990 and completed specialist training in dermatology at Guy’s, St Thomas and Kings College London.

    MR GRAHAM BANFIELDA Consultant ENT Surgeon at the Great Western Hospital with specialist training in facial plastic surgery, including rhinoplasty, pinnaplasty, endoscopic sinus surgery, and head and neck surgery. Mr Banfield is also interested in allergy of the upper airway, in particular hayfever, having completed a 2 year MD research thesis at Imperial College, London. He remains a Consultant Surgeon to the Royal Army Medical Corps.

    EAR, NOSE & THROATMR ANDREW CARSWELLMr Carswell was appointed Consultant ENT Surgeon in Swindon in 2013. His higher surgical training was in the South West of England and was supplemented with a world renowned fellowship post for 12 months in Brisbane, Australia from 2012 to 2013. His practices cover all aspects of general ENT and he has a particular interest in neck lump removals including thyroid surgery.

    MISS SUSAN CHALSTREYMiss Sue Chalstrey qualified from St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical College, London in 1983. She went on to specialist training in ENT surgery in London, Cambridge, Hong Kong and Oxford and was appointed Consultant ENT Surgeon at Great Western Hospital in 2000. Miss Chalstrey is a general ENT surgeon with specialist interests in voice and paediatric ENT problems.

    MR DEEPAK GUPTAMr Deepak Gupta is a Consultant ENT Surgeon who completed his medical degree in India in 1982 and went on to complete his ENT speciality training with a fellowship in Head & Neck Cancer. In 1989 he went to the USA to do a fellowship in otology research before coming to the UK for further training, with a special interest in nasal and sinus diseases. Mr Gupta has practiced as a Consultant in the UK since 2000 and was appointed as a Consultant ENT Surgeon at Great Western Hospital in 2003.

    MR ANGUS WADDELLMr Waddell qualified from London University in 1990 and has been a Consultant Surgeon in Swindon since 2003. He trained in London, the South West and in Toronto, Canada. He is an ENT surgeon with a specialist interest in ear problems including hearing loss, tinnitus and ear infections. Mr Waddell is also an expert in the assessment and management of patients with dizziness and balance problems. He is fully trained and accredited to see adult patients and children of any age.

    ENDOCRINOLOGYDR SAHID AHMEDDr Ahmed is the Lead Clinician for diabetes and endocrinology having been in the Trust for over 17 years and specialises in a whole range of endocrine conditions, general diabetes and young adult diabetes conditions. Dr Ahmed also helps set up and run the weight management clinics for patients pre-bariatric and post-bariatric surgery and carries out gastric band adjustments.

    GASTROENTEROLOGYDR ANDREW CLARIDGEDr Claridge is the Clincial Lead for Gastroenterology, an honorary lecturer at the University of Bristol and Gastroenterology board member for the MRCP exam. He graduated from Manchester in 1999 and undertook post graduate training in New Zealand and Australia. He has travelled widely as a junior doctor, completing a post graduate degree in expedition medicine with an interest in travelling with chronic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. After settling into specialist training in Wessex he focused on illnesses of the lower gastrointestinal tract and completed a PhD in the role of microRNAs (a type of DNA) in inflammatory bowel disease. Dr Claridge is a keen teacher and has an MSc in education. He believes passionately in self-improvement and encourages patients to understand and manage their own illnesses.

    DR MANISH HEGDEDr Hegde qualified from Poona University, India in 1995. He trained as a Gastroenterologist & Hepatologist at the major liver units in Newcastle and Birmingham and is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at the Great Western Hospital, Swindon. He is an experienced Endoscopist in upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy (gastroscopy and colonoscopy with ileoscopy). His interests include diagnosis and treatment of Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Indigestion, Heartburn and Dyspepsia. Investigation of causes of abnormal liver tests and treating the cause. Diagnosis and treatment of Colonic Polyps. Dr Hegde is an accredited Bowel Cancer Screening Endoscopist.

    GENERAL MEDICINEDR ANIL IPEAfter completing graduation (MBBS) and post-graduation in medicine (MD) from India, Dr Ipe moved to Liverpool to have higher specialist training in elderly and general medicine. He developed his specialist interest in falls, syncope and vestibular assessments during his training days and continues to maintain his skills by attending various conferences and courses. Dr Ipe developed a comprehensive multidisciplinary falls clinic at the Great Western Hospital which o#ers the best possible assessment for falls patients. He also has interest in medical education and was the lead for elderly medicine at the Bristol University. Dr Ipe is a fellow of the Health Education Academy(FHEA) and also has post graduate qualifications in Medical Leadership and Health Education.

    GENERAL SURGERYMR NATHAN COOMBS Mr Coombs is not only the Senior Consultant Breast Surgeon (as listed under Breast Care) but is also a trained endocrine and general surgeon, also specialising in thyroid and parathyroid surgery and complex hernia operations. Mr Coombs is the Senior Surgeon providing laparoscopic hernia surgery in Swindon & Wiltshire.

    MR ANWAR OWAISMr Anwar Owais completed his basic surgical training in Yorkshire. During that time, he completed a research degree/Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Hull. Mr Owais developed a specialist interest in laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery in both benign and malignant colorectal surgery. After finishing his surgical training, he did a fellowship in advanced laparoscopic colorectal surgery and advanced pelvic malignancies. Mr Owais was a finalist for the “Patient Choice” award at the Great Western Hospital Sta# Excellence Awards in 2018. Mr Owais’ major interests include colorectal surgery, colonoscopy and hernia surgery. Mr Owais also has a particular expertise in the management of inflammatory bowel diseases, colorectal cancers and benign anorectal conditions.

    MR RICHARD PAYNEMr Payne is a Consultant Gastrointestinal Surgeon and Lead for Colorectal cancer at GWH. He practices at Shalbourne Private Health Care, BMI Ridgeway Hospital, and The Great Western Hospital, Swindon. He qualified from Charing Cross & Westminster Medical School with Honours in 1993, having attained a first class Honours Degree in anatomy in 1990.     GENERAL SURGERYMR ROD ALEXANDER Mr Alexander trained at the University of Southampton Medical School graduating with distinction and honours. He completed his specialist general and colorectal surgical training in Wessex and the South West Thames Deaneries. Prior to starting at the Great Western Hospital, hewas awarded a Nationally-appointed industry sponsored Laparoscopic Colorectal Fellowship at Frimley Park Hospital. He was awarded an MSc in Leadership and Management and has published widely in his field of surgical interest. He is now clinical lead for the TEO service he started at GWH. Mr Alexander’s special interests include: laparoscopic (Key hole) surgery, colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease, gallbladder surgery, hernia surgery and endoscopy.

    DR AJEYA SHETTYDr Shetty is a substantive consultant having been appointed in 2006. He is the hospital lead for Endoscopy and Upper GI cancers. He graduated in 1993 and was appointed as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, London in 2011. He received his specialised training in Gastroenterology in the London SW rotation. He is currently the Unit Tutor for the undergraduate medical students from Bristol. He developed a keen interest in the management of inflammatory bowel disease, which culminated in the award of an MD by the University of London.

    GENERAL SURGERYMR RAVI SINGH-RANGERMr Singh-Ranger was one of the first surgeons in the UK to perform endovenous laser surgery and the Venefit procedure (formerly known as VNUS Closure®) for the treatment of varicose veins. He is a recognised national key-opinion leader in the field of endovenous surgery with an experience of more than 5000 cases. Mr Singh-Ranger’s practice, The Vein Clinic (Wiltshire & Gloucestershire), is recognised as a National Centre of Excellence by the major device companies for the keyhole treatment of venous disease, and is one of the busiest practices devoted to minimally invasive vein care in the United Kingdom. Mr Singh-Ranger holds a substantive NHS consultant appointment at The Great Western Hospital in Wiltshire; he has qualified to postgraduate level in General Surgery and Vascular Surgery through the Royal College of Surgeons (Eng) and is listed on the GMC specialist medical register.

    MR CHRIS THORNMr Thorn undertook his training in Leeds and London, culminating with an 18 month period at the internationally recognised St. Mark’s Hospital in Harrow, specialising in complex colorectal disease and including an Ethicon Fellowship in laparoscopic colorectal surgery. He also secured a prestigious Darzi Management Fellowship during his senior training. Mr Thorn was awarded a postgraduate Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Leeds for research into the molecular basis of invasion in colorectal cancer. With a continued interest in education and research, he is a member of the education executive of the EFISDS and regularly teaches laparoscopic skills both nationally and internationally. Mr Thorn has research interests in Enhanced Recovery after colorectal surgery and perioperative scoring systems and continues to publish and review academic papers.

    MR DAVID GRIFFITHS Mr David Gri"ths is the Senior Gynaecologist and has over twenty years of consultant experience in gynaecology. During his training he won numerous awards and in 1995 he was awarded a Fellowship to Harvard University. He is a recognized trainer for advanced laparoscopic hysterectomies and hespecialises in endometriosis, PCO, screening, cosmetic gynaecology, and pelvic floor disorders. Mr Gri"ths is also an accredited BMS Menopause Specialist. Recommended for his approachable manner and communication skills he practices a personal holistic approach. Mr Gri"ths is married and has 4 young daughters.

    MISS LALRINAWMI LALRINAWMI Miss Lalrinawmi is a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist. She has extensive experience in gynaecology both in India and the UK.     HAEMATOLOGYDR NORBERT BLESINGConsultant Haematologist with a wide ranging expertise in all aspects of diagnosis and treatment of haematological disorders. This includes malignant conditions such as leukaemia, lymphoma or myelodysplasia along with myeloproliferative diseases including polycythaemia, myelofibrosis and thrombocythaemia. Dr Blesing gives advice to patients with thrombotic conditions concerning anti-coagulation and to patients with various bleeding disorders. He sees patients with non-malignant haematological problems ranging from iron deficiency to immune thrombocytopenia and others. He is the Programme Director for the local high-dose chemotherapy/stem cell transplant service and serves as an examiner for the Royal Colleges of Physicians and Pathologists.

    HAEMATOLOGYDR ALEXANDER STERNBERG Dr Sternberg trained in haematology at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London and John Radcli#e Hospital, Oxford. Dr Sternberg specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with haematological malignancy including myeloma, Hodgkin’s and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and leukaemia’s. Along with conventional chemotherapy, he delivers autologous stem cell transplants. He also cares for patients with non-malignant blood disorders.

    IMAGINGDR ATIQUE IMAMDr Imam gained his medical degree at the University of London and then underwent postgraduate surgical training there. He became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons after completing the FRCS examination. In 2009 he completed radiology training at the John Radcli#e Hospital in Oxford and gained the FRCR qualification. Dr Imam completed a fellowship in interventional radiology in St. Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne. He was appointed as a Consultant Interventional and General Radiologist in 2010. He specialises in vascular and non-vascular interventional radiology and also has a major interest in neuroradiology.

    SWINDON RADIOLOGY GROUP The consultant radiologists as part of the Great Western Hospital provide comprehensive radiology support to Private Patients treated at the Shalbourne. They are experts in cross sectional imaging including CT and MRI, interventional radiology and sonography.

    NEPHROLOGYDR TANAJI DASGUPTADr Dasgupta is a Consultant in renal medicine and provides clinical care for patients with kidney disease at the Great Western Hospital, in collaboration with the Oxford Kidney Unit. Dr Dasgupta leads an inpatient consult service for patients with kidney disease and has clinics for patients with chronic kidney disease, dialysis and transplantation in the outpatient setting. His chief interests include clinical nephrology and medical education.     MR RICHARD ADAM BROOKS Mr Brooks graduated from Oxford in 1990, having first studied preclinical medicine in Cambridge. He completed his higher surgical training in Oxford, gaining the FRCS (Tr & Orth) in 2000, followed by a fellowship in St Michael’s Hospital, Toronto. He has been in post in Swindon since 2002 and specialises in hip and knee replacement, particularly complex and revision hip replacement. He also has an interest in hip arthroscopy and impingement surgery, as well as in trauma and fracture fixation. In his non-clincial roles, he has been an elected Trustee and Council Member of the British Orthopaedic Association (2014-17), Chairman of AO Principles trauma courses and currently is Associate Medical Director at Great Western Hospital.

    MR SUNNY DEO Mr Deo completed his higher surgical training (HST) in Orthopaedics and Trauma on the Oxford Programme in 2001. He has undertaken prestigious fellowships at Groote Schuur Hospital Cape Town, and Vancouver General Hospital. He has been a consultant since 2001. His principal subspecialty is knee surgery, undertaking a comprehensive range of soft tissue surgery, including ACL reconstruction, MACI, osteotomies and arthroplasty knee surgery. He has specific expertise in partial, complex total & revision replacements and sports injuries. He is an experienced traumatologist in particular surgery of multiple injuries, surgery of complex lower limb peri-articular and long bone fractures. He leads an active research and audit programme and has published and presented widely at national and international meetings. Current research interests are centred around clinical and diagnostic complexity, pain around the time of surgery and outcomes following knee surgery.

    MR JOHN GRICE Mr Grice qualified from University College London Medical School in 2003, simultaneously to his busy International hockey career for England and Great Britain. He has also had excellent experience in managing routineand complex foot and ankle trauma and elective work, including bunions, forefoot pain, tendon pain, shin splints, exercise induced compartment syndrome, fractures, Lis Franc injuries and distal tibial fractures.

    DR TADAS ZUROMSKISDr Tadas Zuromskis, Consultant in Neurology and Stroke Medicine, qualified in 1995. He underwent the speciality training in Lithuania. Subsequently Dr Zuromskis became a PhD fellow in Gothenburg, Sweden and accomplished a research project in Neurovascular Ultrasound and Stroke. In 2011 he became a Fellow of Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh. Dr Zuromskis joined the Great Western Hospital Neurology Team as a Consultant in Neurology and Stroke Medicine in 2013. He is experienced managing general neurological conditions and specialises in multiple sclerosis, headaches and stroke.

    MR DAVID HOLLINGHURSTMr Hollinghurst is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Great Western Hospital, Swindon and The Ridgeway Hospital, with honorary consultant posts at the Nu"eld Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford and Oxford Children’s Hospital. He qualified in medicine also from Cambridge in 1995, having attained a degree in physiology, from Cambridge University. His orthopaedic training was in Oxford, during which time he was awarded a Research Fellowship by the Royal College of Surgeons of England to study the function of knee replacements. He was awarded fellowships working with world class surgeons in Melbourne and Vancouver. He provides a comprehensive service for adolescent / young adult hip and knee problems, including sports injuries, in addition to hip and knee replacement. He works closely with local physiotherapists to maximise patients outcomes.

    MR JOHN IVORYMr Ivory completed undergraduate medical training at Cambridge University and Guy’s Hospital, London.     MR MICHAEL RIGBY Mr Rigby was born and educated in Worcestershire. He went to the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine in London and qualified in 1992. After qualification Mr Rigby completed his basic training at University College Hospital in London. His specialist training was in the Wessex region. His Fellowship was in the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre in Exeter and he spent a year in the world renowned Hip Unit. Mr Rigby was appointed as an Orthopaedic Consultant at The Great Western Hospital in Swindon in November 2003 and appointed Clinical Lead in 2016.

    MR VENKAT SATISH Mr Satish undertook his undergraduate and initial Orthopaedic training in India. He came to the UK in late 1993 and did his specialist registrar training in Glasgow, Leicester (knee fellowship) and then completed advanced training in knee reconstruction at the Nu"eld Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford. He served a Short Service Commission with the RAF reaching the rank of Wing Commander and was an Orthopaedic Consultant at Peterborough Hospitals NHS Trust for 3 years, seeing service in Bosnia and Iraq. Mr.Satish has been a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Swindon since June 2005. He performs surgical treatments for all knee conditions including total and unicompartmental knee replacement, knee arthroscopy, cruciate ligament reconstruction, revision knee replacement, osteotomy (realignment), meniscal repair, patellar stabilisation, patello-femoral replacement, cartilage transplantation. He has a keen interest in lower limb sports injuries. He also performs fracture surgery and primary hip replacement.

    MR DAVID WOODSMr Woods qualified in Medicine from She"eld University in 1987, having obtained a 1st class honours degree in Human Metabolism and Clinical Biochemisty in 1986. His surgical training was in She"eld, Oxford, and Melbourne, Australia and was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Swindon in 1998. For the past 10yrs Mr Woods has specialised in shoulder and elbow conditions almost exclusively. He has a particular interest in trauma to the collar bone, shoulder and elbow, and in the treatment of frozen shoulder, unstable shoulders, rotator cu# problems and shoulder arthritis.

    MR ROBIN BHATIAMr Bhatia is a Consultant Spinal Neurosurgeon practicing at The Great Western and John Radcli#e Hospital. His practice is devoted to the management of spinal problems. His specialist interests include: lumbar and cervical spine degenerative disease causing chronic back and neck pain; spinal cord and nerve root decompression; spinal (nerve root/epidural and facet joint) injection therapy; intervertebral disc disease; inflammatory and infective spinal pathologies; spinal fractures/instability; spondylolisthesis; failed back syndrome and revision surgery; intradural pathology; adult scoliosis/kyphosis and spinal tumours.

    MR NIKOLAOS PYROVOLOU After graduating in medicine in 1999 from the Aristotelion University of Thessaloniki, Mr Pyrovolou specialised in orthopaedic surgery in Athens and undertook two and a half years of complex combined Orthopaedic & Neurosurgical Spinal Fellowship (Oxford University Hospital and Wales University Hospital Cardi#).     PODIATRIC SURGERYMR MATTHEW CICHERO Mr. Matthew Cichero is a Consultant Podiatric Surgeon and Diabetic Foot Co-ordinator at Great Western Hospital. His private practice includes the management of ingrown nails through to ankle sprains and achilles injuries. Key areas of interest include adolescent and adult rearfoot pains and strains; heel and arch pain; achilles tendonitis; stress fractures; hallux valgus (‘bunion’); hammer toes; neuromas; ingrown nails; arthritis of the foot; and sports injuries. Mr Cichero provides a range of services from gait analysis for orthotics and ankle braces through to injections and surgical procedures. His many years working in biomechanics, orthotics and injection therapy gives him a unique insight into the conservative management of many lower limb injuries which can be treated successfully without surgery. Mr. Cichero is actively involved in sports such as triathlons, which gives him a unique insight into sports injury management.

    RY MR BEN YATES Ben graduated as a podiatrist in 1989 passing with distinction and clinical prize. He completed his surgical fellowship in 1997 and holds a masters degree in sports injuries and management. He has performed over 10,000 foot and ankle procedures mostly undertaken as day-case surgery. He has been at the Great Western Hospital since 2003. He has lectured at many national and international conferences on di#erent aspects of foot and ankle surgery and has a particular interest in surgical correction of foot deformity.

    ONCOLOGYDR OMAR KHANDr Khan is a Consultant Medical Oncologist and specialises in chemotherapy and biological treatments for lung cancer, mesothelioma, ovarian cancer and urological cancers. He is a member of the lung, urology and gynaecology MDT. He also specialises in acute oncology and works as part of the acute oncology team reviewing oncology inpatients. He specialises in the treatment of lung cancer, mesothelioma, ovarian cancer, renal cancer, bladder cancer, prostate cancer and acute oncology.

    DR SARAH LOWNDESDr Lowndes is a Consultant Medical Oncologist specialising in chemotherapy for colorectal cancer and cancer of unknown primary (CUP). She graduated in medicine from the University of Oxford in 1998 and trained in oncology at Southampton, Oxford and the University of Michigan, qualifying and taking up her current consultant position in 2010. She gained a D Phil in medical oncology from Oxford University in 2009. She is a member of the colorectal cancer MDT and lead of the cancer of unknown primary MDT. She is the Trust Chemotherapy Lead. She also works as part of the Acute Oncology Team, reviewing oncology inpatients, and is Principle Investigator for several oncology trials at the Great Western Hospital. In 2016 she was elected fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.

    OPHTHALMOLOGYMR ALLAAELDIN ABUMATTARMr Abumattar moved permanently to the UK in 2001. Mr Abumattar has developed a keen interest in cataract surgery utilising both standard and premium implant and specialises in challenging and complicated cataract cases. He is an expert in the management of medical retinal disorders like age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and retinal vein occlusions, including laser treatment and intravitreal injections. He also has extensive experience in the management of eyelid disorders.

    MISS MELANIE CHAKMiss Chak attended medical school at Cambridge University and the Royal Free Hospital, London. Her training in Ophthalmology was at St Thomas’ Hospital, London and Oxford which included 2 years intensive training in eyelid and tear drainage surgery. She also holds a higher degree (MD) in cataract from the Institute of Child Health and Great Ormond Street Hospital. She was appointed as a Consultant Ophthalmologist in 2011. Her specialist interests include small incision cataract surgery, eyelid and watery eye disorders: ectropion, entropion, ptosis, droopy lids, lumps on eyelids, eyelid bags/excessive skin and blockage of tear drainage systems. She leads clinics in acute and general eye conditions. Miss Chak also has an interest in facial cosmetic surgery and has been injecting botulinum toxin for over 15 years.

    MR MOHAMMED EL-ASHRY Mr El-Ashry has been working in Ophthalmology since 1993. He has his MD from the University of London and subsequently completed his higher specialist training in Edinburgh. He has been working as a substantive vitreoretinal consultant at Great Western Hospital since 2015. He has enormous experience in cataract surgery including challenging or complicated cases utilising both standard and premium lenses (multifocal or toric). His specialist interest include macular surgery (macular hole, epiretinal membrane and vitreomacular traction), diabetic retinopathy and retinal detachment.     MR JYOTIN PANDITMr Pandit began his medical career at University of Wales, Cardi# where he obtained his primary medical qualification in 1988. He completed his specialist training at hospitals in Plymouth and Bristol and then undertook further surgical training in corneal and external eye diseases at the Queen Victoria hospital in East Grinstead, a supra-regional and national referral centre for ocular surface diseases. Mr Pandit’s main interests are cataract surgery, clear lens exchange and correction of astigmatism and presbyopia.

    MR NIMISH SHAHMr Shah has been working in Ophthalmology since 1999. Mr Shah developed a keen interest in small incision phaco-cataract surgery, medical retinal diseases, especially age related macular degeneration (ARMD), diabetic retinopathy and retinal vein occlusion. Key achievements have included active development of medical retina services particularly age related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, teaching and training junior colleagues in cataract surgery, medical retinal disorders and retinal laser procedure.

    MR GUY SMITHMr Smith received his medical qualification from St Thomas’ Hospital in London in 1994 with a first class degree in Neurosciences and honours in Surgery. His registrar training and specialist fellowship training in corneo refractive surgery was based at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. He was appointed as Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Great Western Hospital in 2004. He has sub-speciality interests in glaucoma, cataract and corneo-refractive surgery and he is currently the head of the cataract and external eye diseases services. Mr Smith has a specialist interest in the treatment of dry eye and glaucoma. He also specialises in cataract surgery and refractive lens exchange surgery to correct short sight, long sight, astigmatism and presbyopia.

    MR THAMIR YASENAfter qualifying from Baghdad in 1974, Mr Yasen carried out his basic general surgical training at Baghdad Medical City Teaching Hospital. He then went on to specialise in Ophthalmology and in 1981 he moved to the UK to gain further ophthalmology experience and gained his FRCS in Ophthalmology. In 1986, Mr Yasen was appointed to Registrar at The Royal Hospital of Victoria in Bournemouth, later progressing to work as Associate Specialist at the hospital. During this time he gained excellent experience in Vitreoretinal Surgery, glaucoma, Neuro-ophthalmology, Oculoplastics, anterior segment and ocular motility. He was granted FRCSOphth (fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists) in 1988. Mr Yasen also has extensive experience in laser procedures and is an expert in cataract extractions. Early in 1991 Mr Yasen was the first at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Bournemouth to perform a list of cataract operations as day case surgery when the prevailing practice was to keep cataract patients in hospital. In 1999 to further develop his skills, Mr Yasen undertook a year’s training at the Southampton Eye Unit. Through this experience he mastered techniques such as adjustable structures and botulinum toxin treatment of squint. Mr Yasen has interest and expertise in cataract surgery (including multifocal and toric intraocular lens implants), General Ophthalmology, Paediatric Ophthalmology and Oculoplastic surgery. Mr Yasen has worked at The Great Western Hospital as a consultant since 2000, he also works as a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Ridgeway Hospital and Bath Clinic.

    OPHTHALMOLOGYMR IMRAN ZAHEERMr Zaheer is Lead Consultant Ophthalmologist at The Great Western Hospital. He has extensive experience and provides comprehensive general ophthalmic services. He has completed advanced subspecialty training fellowships in glaucoma, retinal diseases and oculoplastics (eyelid and orbit), gaining extensive training in surgical procedures and expertise in the management of routine and complex cataract surgery procedures, eyelid, retinal and orbital conditions. He has particular experience of carrying out small incision cataract surgery and refractive lens exchange surgery including ‘Premier Lens implants’. He o#ers specialist advice in ‘Glaucoma’ related screening, diagnosis and treatments including selective laser trabecuolplasty, laser iridotomy as well as complex glaucoma surgery procedures. Mr Zaheer is actively involved in teaching, training and has presented and published his work in the UK and Internationally.

    PLASTICS/AESTHETICSMR JEREMY BIRCHMr Birch has developed a specialist interest in Breast surgery including reconstruction and breast reshaping following reconstructive surgery. Other areas of specialisation include the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant skin lesions, for which he is a member of the Skin Multidisciplinary Teams in both Oxford and Swindon. Mr Birch also undertakes medicolegal work.

    MR MATTHEW POTTERMr Potter is a UK trained Plastic Surgeon who qualified as a doctor in 1997 and gained membership of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2001. He passed his Plastic Surgical exams (FRCS Plast) in 2009. He has been a Consultant Plastic Surgeon since 2012. His principal NHS Practice is the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. His training in Plastic Surgery has been in London, Oxford and Australia. He spent the last two years of his training in UK and Australia learning advanced techniques in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. His specialised areas of interest include; Skin lesions and head and neck lesions. His cosmetic interests include; cosmetic surgery to the face and eyes, breast reduction surgery/augmentation and body contouring procedures.

    RESPIRATORY MEDICINEDR MARK JUNIPER Dr Juniper qualified from the University of London in 1989. He undertook training posts in London, Leeds and Oxford and was appointed as Consultant in Respiratory and Intensive Care Medicine in Swindon in 2000. He was Associate Medical Director for Unscheduled Care from 2006 – 2009 and has been Trust Lead for Quality since 2014. He has worked as Clinical Co-ordinator for the National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death since 2012. After his appointment in Swindon, he introduced a new system to ensure high quality care for acutely ill patients, established ward based and home ventilation services and set up a sleep service to diagnose and treat patients with obstructive sleep apnoea that now treats almost 4000 patients. Alongside this, he runs outpatient services in general respiratory medicine.

    RHEUMATOLOGYDR SARA CARTY Dr Carty qualified in Newcastle in 1997 and trained in rheumatology in Nottingham, Manchester, Bath and Cardi# where she completed a PhD looking at biologic therapy in rheumatoid arthritis. Dr Carty’s interests include inflammatory arthritis, lung disease in arthritis and can also provide treatment for mechanical and soft tissue conditions e.g. tennis elbow and trigger finger.

    DR ELIZABETH PRICEDr Price is a Consultant Rheumatologist who practices in all aspects of clinical rheumatology and holds general rheumatology clinics at both Great Western Hospital in Swindon and Savernake Hospital in Marlborough. In addition to General Rheumatology she has a specialist interest in Sjogren’s Syndrome and runs a specialist Sjogren’s clinic accepting tertiary referrals. She currently focuses on extraglandular manifestations of the disease and clinical research into Sjogren’s and is a member of the steering committee for the UK Primary Sjögren’s Syndrome registry.

    MR AMR HAWARY Mr Amr Hawary completed his basic surgical training in the North West of England and then moved to train in prominent urological centers within the South West Region of England as part of his Higher Surgical Training in Urology. He did several fellowships in endoscopic stone surgery, cancer surgery and prostate disease in the prestigious mansoura urology and Nephrology Centre. Prior to being appointed as a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Great Western Hospital he completed a Fellowship in Paediatric Urology/ surgery at the Bristol Royal Hospital for children. Mr Hawary has several national and international publications in the field of Urology. He also presented his research work at National and International conferences. He is currently the Lead Clinician for Paediatric Urology in Swindon. Mr Hawary treats all types of urological conditions and has wide experience in prostate surgery, bladder tumour resection (TURBT), Laser stone surgery as well as flexible and rigid cystoscopies, foreskin conditions, hydrocele and epididymal cyst operations. He did several fellowships in endoscopic stone surgery, cancer surgery and prostate disease in the prestigious Mansoura Urology and Nephrology Centre.

    MR RUPERT BECKMr Rupert Beck is lead clinician for urological cancer in Swindon and works very closely with teams from Bristol and Oxford so that patients receive the best possible and most highly advanced treatment for their cancer that is currently available. Mr Beck treats all types of urological conditions and has a wide experience in endoscopic urology – including TURP, TURBT, ureteroscopy, flexible ureterorenoscopy, flexible cystoscopy as well as in open surgery such as nephrectomy, circumcision, hydrocele and epididymal cyst operations.

    MR SUNIL MATHUR Mr Mathur specialises in laparoscopic kidney surgery, kidney stone treatments and general urology. He provides a comprehensive adult general urology service including treatment of urinary symptoms, diseases of the prostate, bladder, foreskin and scrotum, as well as more specialised treatments such as laparoscopic (keyhole) kidney surgery and the treatment and prevention of kidney stones.

    Swindon Consultant Anaesthetists (SCA Ltd) is a group of consultant doctors working in the independent sector in the Swindon area. They mainly work at Shalbourne Private Health Care at the Great Western Hospital, and at BMI Ridgeway Hospital.
