Editorial

Of course the cover of this emagazine is a spoof on what bodybuilding magazines look like today. Its filled with over exaggerrated claims, fales hopes and promises, and outright lies. All in the name of making money. Little do these publishers of these

magazines know is that if they made their magazine based on real sports nutrition science and not this infomercial-like marketing that their magazine would be much more success-full. This is the first edition of what I hope will be many of my bodybuilding/sports nutrition Newsstand Novella’s. Please make sure you subscribe to our mailing list so you can be the first to know about cutting edge news in the supplement industry all without the advertise-ments and marketing bullshit.

What you are about to read is go-ing to go against everything you have already read in bodybuilding

magazines. It is going to go against everything you have read on the internet and on the major bodybuilding supplement sites.

You see, the entire aforementioned make their profits on selling bodybuilding supple-ments. If it were not for the selling of body-building supplements, these companies would not exist.

These companies make millions and mil-lions of dollars in advertising alone. Millions more are spent online by the people buying bodybuilding supplements. The people spend-ing the money are, of course, the supplement manufacturers and they spend it all on ad-vertising to the people consuming these sup-plements.

Consumers purchase the supplements with one purpose in mind; the hope that the prod-uct will actually work. They wonder:•Is this product going to produce results?•Is this protein powder going to help me gain muscle and lose fat?•Is this testosterone product going to help me pack on mass? •Is this nitric oxide product going to give me the mind-blowing pumps that its advertise-ment says? •Is this new form of creatine going to work better than the last new form of creatine?

SELLING LIES BY THE BOTTLE

Their customers purchase the bodybuilding products in bulk every day. The four, typcial reasons are:

1. Recommendation2. Marketing (advertisement)3. Research4. Reviews The most powerful tool used is recommen-

dation; nothing beats this form of advertis-ing. For example, when your workout part-ner recommends the particular bodybuilding supplement, it is most likely going to be the one that you are going to buy.

The worst reason to buy a bodybuilding supplement is the print advertisement. Look-ing at an ad in a muscle magazine and allow-ing these money-driven businesses to sway you into purchasing their products is the worst mistake you can make. Often, these advertisements are borderline illegal. Yes, you read that correctly, illegal.

Supplement companies are notorious for breaking the federal trade commission’s laws within their ads. For example, how many times have you seen this in an advertisement: “Increases blood plasma levels by 246%,” with a barely visible asterisk next to it? Then, in microscopic writing at the very bottom of the page, it says, “in conjunction with a diet and exercise program”. If the advertisement is about a study then some university in Eastern Europe prob-ably conducted it.

Another common claim is, ‘Increas-es testosterone by 328%’. This is only a “claim”. A claim means that the ad-vertisement makes the claim. This claim states that by taking

The supplement companies conjure up ads that they hope will convince people like you to buy their product. They claim that it is the ‘most powerful supplement in existence’ or it ‘will produce results’ and make you look like the juiced up bodybuilders smiling next to their product.

Page 7: Supplement Guide

The Deviant Guide To Bodybuilding Supplements

their supplement your testosterone will in-crease by 328%. However, if this were actually the case, then the product would be a drug and require a prescription from a medical doctor.

Nonetheless, this does not stop the supple-ment companies, or the magazines that ac-cept the barely-legal ad, from printing it or marketing on their assertion. Why? Because, they do not care. They only care about get-ting their money.

All of the advertising in the magazines and on the internet, including all of the body-building forums (which the supplement com-panies themselves own 99% of, as well as the retailers of bodybuilding supplements), makes it very, very difficult not to think that bodybuilding supplements do what they claim; that they actually ‘work’.

The internet bodybuilding forums are load-ed with testi- monials; people com-

menting and posting about how a particular bodybuilding supplement produced results for them. Please do not be so naïve to think that either employees of the supplement companies or the retailers themselves are not posting their own reviews, claiming just how great the product that they are selling is.

In order to combat the massive onslaught of misinformation about how GREAT body-building supplements are, I have put together a Bodybuilding Supplement Review. This re-view will state the facts and inform you of all you need to know. I am going to expose how products like ZMA, which many major sup-plement companies and internet retail sites sell, are a complete and total SCAM. These frauds are more than just wrong; they are f#&@*d up!

“IT’S NOT FOR EVERYONE”I was skimming through several issues of

Muscular Development and I repeatedly see advertising such as “Not for everyone" or "Only take 1/2 serving because you might not be able to handle a full serving".

What kind of shit is this? I’ll tell you what kind: grade-A bullshit.

The clever marketers working for these com-panies try to make you believe that the supple-ment is extra powerful and only for the brave or strong. “Not for women and children, only take a half of one…” They have no limits to their gimmicks.

One advertisement went so far as to put ‘You’ve Been Warned’ in large, bold text to market their caffeine-laced fat-burner. The warning on that one should have been longer to the effect of, “Warning: Caffeine reduces muscle mass and is associated with serious health problems.” If they really wanted to be 100% honest, they could add another one that says, “Warning: Taking this Supplement Re-duces Your Finances by $50”

They know their audience and they’ll use every trick in the marketing book to make money while selling useless or hazardous products. Heed this warning and don’t be duped by theirs.

1, 3-DIMETHYLAMYLAMINE (DMAA) / GERANIUM EXTRACT /METHYLHEXANAMINE

1, 3-Dimethylamylamine (DMAA) is show-ing up on the ingredients list of several supple-ments lately. The most common place you’ll see DMAA, which frequently labeled as ‘parts of geranium plants’, is in pre-workout supple-ments.

Despite posts on various supplement fo-rums that claim this product is legal, it is not. Furthermore, research on two of the top sup-plements said to contain DMAA discovered that the amounts of the substance within both products tested were “indistinguishable”.

Source:Associates, Z. Y. (2012). 1, 3 Dimethylamyla-mine (DMAA) in sup-plements and gerani-um products: natural or synthetic? Arling-ton, Texas: Pubmed.

A class-action lawsuit was filed against a major supplement company, which contained DMAA. The products involved in the lawsuit included powder and tablets.

DMAA is supposed to be extracted from the oil of geranium plants. Other names include Methylhexanamine and Geranainine. How-ever, synthetic versions are often, if not always, used. The substance is on the Major League Baseball’s list of banned substances due to its role as a vasoconstrictor and central nervous system stimulant. In fact, experts in the trial compared the substance to an amphetamine and stated the risks of heart attacks and blood pressure were associated with DMAA.

Whoa! Hold the presses. As I was writing this review!: The FDA has banned the use of DMAA in dietary supplements. But essen-tially, the ban is to late because the supplement company that started all of the use of DMAA in their dietary supplement has already made their money. This is how that so-called supple-ment company got rich. They found a product that knew people would feel the effect of im-mediately. You see these slick owners of this company knows that if you can make a prod-uct that someone can feel immediately people will “think” that it works. Ephedra used to be the king product that supplement companies used, but that was banned years ago. After that caffeine, and now DMAA. Thus this particular supplement company took an illegal substance and made it into a delivery system that people can use easily. Essentially DMAA is an am-phetamine and people we’re literally getting high after taking. Same thing as if you took methampethamines, you get an instant high. The popularity of this DMAA supplement dis-guised as a pre workout supplement, took off and thousands of people we’re getting legally high and this supplement company got rich. Hopefully after all the lawsuits this company has to endure it will put them and their own-ers in the poor house.

STEROID-LACED SUPPLEMENTSSupplement companies often will inten-

tionally add illegal, anabolic steroids to their products without informing the consumer or labeling it. In my personal opinion, these com-panies should be convicted of criminal charges.

The result of anabolic steroid intake is seri-ous health problems or death. The FDA issued a public health advisory in July of 2009 con-cerning steroid-containing supplements. The specific manufacturer of the supplement that prompted FDA involvement was a company that is still in business today and whose prod-ucts are still being sold by the largest body-building supplement store on the internet. No intergrity on the part of this bodybuilding on-line store.

“The FDA has received reports of serious ad-verse events associated with the use of these products and other similar products,” wrote FDA in its health advisory. “Although prod-ucts containing synthetic steroids are frequent-ly marketed as dietary supplements, they are NOT dietary supplements, but instead are un-approved new drugs that have not been re-viewed by the FDA for safety and effectiveness.”

The products are often even marked as be-ing alternatives to anabolic steroids! Be careful, these can cause serious problems.

BEEF PROTEIN ISOLATEBeef Protein Isolate is nothing new. Some

companies would like you to believe that it’s some amazing new breakthrough, but it’s been around for a long time. In fact, the Proteinfac-tory.com actually sold beef protein back in the 90's.

Beef protein isolate is a decent protein, al-though it’s not as good as egg, casein, or whey protein.

Judging the quality proteins is mainly based on biological value. You can get protein from almost anywhere (milk, corn, peas, soy, plus many others). However, the quality of the pro-tein is determined by how efficiently the body can process the source and distribute the nitro-

SUPPLEMENTSgen and protein to your body.

The obvious best is whey protein. If this is news to you, you may want to read more about proteins. The next best after whey protein is egg, followed by casein, and then soy. Whey protein has a BV rating of approximately 100. Egg is around 95, casein around 85...

Beef protein has a BV rating around 75, which makes it nonsensical to use when there are bet-ter choices like whey and egg, which have sig-nificantly higher BV ratings. This is another one of the attempts by supplement companies to appear cutting-edge. Nice try.

One of the biggest frauds surrounding beef protein isolate is that it is just as good or even the same as bovine albumin concentrate, which is branded by Proteinfactory.com as Super Plas-ma Protein. This couldn’t be further from the truth.

Super plasma protein is made from cow’s blood (yeah, I know it sounds gross), where beef protein isolate is made from cow meat. Most important, super plasma protein contains 50% IGG and over 3,000 ng/g of IGF-1 while beef protein isolate has practically zero IGG and barely any IGF-1, maybe even none of both. Another interesting fact about beef protein iso-late is that it costs 10 times less than super plas-ma protein to produce. This explains while the sleaze balls at the supplement companies are trying to push this product and make consum-ers think that it is as good as super plasma pro-tein. There really is no shame in their methods.

LIVER BYPASS PROTEINLiver by-pass protein is another sham offered

by some supplement companies. This is an at-tempt to sell a protein powder to consumers by advertising that it somehow bypasses the liver and increases efficiency…

As far as I can tell, the ONLY reason to use beef protein isolate would be if you were allergic to eggs and/or dairy proteins.

I went their website and checked out the in-gredients of this bogus protein. I was looking for some new, special protein but only found a wide variety of well-known proteins. The com-bination included WPI, WPC, milk proteins and hydrolysates.

Nothing new here; and if it is so ‘advanced’ why would they use the cheap-o WPC?

I also found this joke of an ingredient: Multi-ple transport carrier carbohydrate matrices in-cluding low dextrose equivalency, short-to-long chain complex carbs (Maltodextrin, Fructose, and Waxy maize). I love how these companies give cheap dextrose the title of ‘transport car-rier’. Really? Who, in God’s name, would want fructose in their protein powder? Also, if you don’t know already, waxy maize is another of their endless scams.

The only bypass that should happen with this supplement is you passing by it and never turn-ing back.

PROTEIN ‘SHOTS’ = CATABOLIC SUPPLEMENTS

Protein shots are packaged in vials that usu-ally contain around three ounces of fluid load-ed with 42 grams of protein. Some of these even have the description ‘Whey protein’ shot. This is a deception and I’ll tell you why.

Not only are these products not 100% whey protein, but I would be surprised to learn if they even had 10 grams of whey protein in them. Just look at the ingredients that I found on one of these so-called ‘Whey Shots’.

•Deionized water •Protein blend; enzymatically hydrolyzed

[predigested] collagenic protein isolateNotice the first protein ingredient, Collagen

Protein. Collagen Protein, otherwise known as hydrolyzed gelatin, is a nasty protein. It can even cause net protein LOSS in the body. Hy-drolyzed collagen comes from a very nasty and disgusting source, animal by-products! It’s commonly extracted from the skin of pigs.

Hydrolyzed collagen lacks essential amino acids giving this protein a biological value of ZERO. NADA. ZIP!

I highly recommend NOT using these prod-ucts as they are a complete scam; a rip-off. If you use them, they could even cause you to go into a catabolic state! The supplement company's that make these products should be ashamed of themselves.

Why do they use hydrolyzed collagen/gela-tin? Because you cannot make a whey pro-tein RTD with 42 grams of protein in only 3 oz. It is a scientific, physical impossibility. So, scumbag supplement companies use hy-drolyzed collagen, sprinkle in a dash of whey

experiment. Their levels were between 12 and 23 milligrams per day, more than the daily requirement. Recent trials have shown that athletes make more testosterone if they take zinc supplements. [Neuro Endocrinol Lett. 2006 Feb-Apr;27(1-2):247-52.] But these athletes probably had a zinc deficiency, the Germans reason.

ZMA has been tested a couple of times. In the first case ZMA came out tops, and the abstract of the study was distributed to much acclaim. Supplements manufacturer himself did that research. The manufacturer first claimed that the study had been published in the prestigious Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, [www.bodyandfitness.com] but this was not the case.

A few years later, Richard Kreider studied the effectiveness of a supplement containing ZMA and L-Dopa. It did nothing. Almost nothing. [J Int Soc Sports Nutr. 2004 Dec 31;1(2):12-20.]

The Germans do have some good news about ZMA as well though. The supplement scarcely raises zinc levels in the body. The athletes excreted nearly all the extra zinc in their urine. ZMA users also urinated more – which explains why some ZMA users think that the stuff makes them ‘drier’. They dehydrate.

The rapid disappearance of extra zinc from the body is good news for all those bodybuilders who were duped into using ZMA. Researchers suspect that high levels of zinc intake can increase the risk of prostate cancer [J Natl Cancer Inst. 2003 Jul 2;95(13):1004-7.] in the long run.

ZMA is totally ineffective, according German sports scientists in an article published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition. The researchers tested a couple of bottles of SNAC System’s ZMA from the bodybuilding.com webshop. SNAC is Victor Conte’s company, the genius behind the BALCO scheme and the inventor of ZMA.

The team of researchers, led by Wilhelm Schaenzer, gave seven fitness fanatics the recommended dose of ZMA – three capsules per day, providing a total of thirty milligrams of zinc, 450 milligrams of magnesium and 11 milligrams of vitamin B6. The researchers made sure the athletes followed the advice of the manufacturer. The participants were asked to swallow the capsules with water between dinner and bedtime at minimum 1 h after the last food intake. Seven other athletes were given a placebo.

Effect: nada. When the researchers measured the

concentrations of a series of natural androgens in the test subjects' urine, the story was pretty much the same. The concentrations are listed in the table, but not in straightforward milligrams, as the figures have undergone statistical processing. But the message is clear. ZMA does not raise the androgen level. If anything, it appears to lower it a little.

The researchers measured the zinc intake of the athletes before starting the

protein and slap the ‘Whey Protein’ label on the vial to sell to unsuspecting customers. I’ll tell you something about these vials; they cer-tainly are vile.

ZMAZMA is a mineral supplement that

supposedly supports testoterone and lean muscle mass. This is a complete scam and it will do absolutely nothing for you. If you dont believe me, read the book "Game of Shadows" and it will give you truth of ZMA.

ZMA does not raise testosterone levels. Pretty much all major supplement companies sell ZMA, this worthless supplement. There is so much factual proof that ZMA does not work its not even funny. Here is an article I found from the website www.ergo-log.com/ZMA.

THE SO-CALLED ‘LEGAL PROHORMONES’

Guess what? There is no such thing as LE-GAL prohormones; they are all ILLEGAL. Granted, you will see advertisements claim-ing they have "legal" prohormones and all that other good stuff. Nevertheless, the truth of the matter is that it’s another one of the big fat lies told by a multitude of supplement companies. They are relentlessly trying to make a quick

buck before the FDA finds them and seizes their inventory.

ALL THOSE CRAZY FORMS OF CREATINE

If you were searching for a creatine supple-ment, I am sure you have come across these:

•Creatine Ethyl Ester HCL•Creatine Gluconate•Dicreatine MalateThe truth of the matter is that China makes

ALL of these products. The ONLY creatine NOT made in China, is Creapure. As a result Creapure is the only creatine I recommend.

CREATINE NITRATECreatine Nitrate sucks ass and doesn’t work.

Anthony Roberts, supplement guru, posted an article about studies on creatine nitrates. Ac-cording to the article, Oklahoma University cancelled multiple studies on Creatine nitrate due to violations that would have shown this to be more effective than it really is.

for consumer safety. Unless you want to risk getting cancer, I would stay away from any-thing that listed "nitrate" on the supplement facts panel.

L-ARGININE & NITRIC OXIDEThis supplement was first sold as male en-

hancement. Then it went to weightloss and bodybuilding. It’s likely found its way to the kitchen sink by now. This is the biggest scam in supplement history. Sad, but true.

Here’s the first study showing L-Arginine Doesn’t work.

Source: J Nutr Biochem. 2009 Jun;20(6):462-8. Epub 2008 Aug 15.

Oklahoma University has recently canceled multiple studies on Creatine nitrate.. The Institutional Review Board (IRB) investigated the studies in question and found that they needed to be stopped due to incredible violations of acceptable scientific protocol - violations that would have served to make Creatine nitrate appear to be far more effective than it actually is.

In summary, this is a worthless supplement. Don’t waste your money or your time.

CREATINE ETHYL ESTER SUPPLEMENTATION

Once again, this is junk. Creatine ethyl ester doesn’t work.; don’t use them.

NITRATE (CREATINE NITRATE, ARGININE NITRATE, & OTHER FORMS)

More and more supplement companies have been using nitrates in their supplements. This is not only stupid, it also shows total disregard

No effect of short-term arginine supple-mentation on nitric oxide production, me-tabolism and performance in intermittent exercise in athletes.

Liu TH, Wu CL, Chiang CW, Lo YW, Tseng HF, Chang CK.

Department of Physical Education, Taiwan Sport University, 404 Taichung, Taiwan.

Arginine supplementation has been shown to alleviate endothelial dysfunction and improve exercise performance through increasing nitric oxide production in patients with cardiopulmonary diseases. In addition, arginine supplementation could decrease accumulations of lactate and ammonia, me-tabolites involved in development of muscu-lar fatigue.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of short-term arginine supplementa-tion on performance in intermittent anaero-bic exercise and the underlying mechanism in well-trained male athletes.

Ten elite male college judo athletes partici-pated with a randomized crossover, placebo-controlled design. The subjects consumed 6 g/day arginine (ARG trial) or placebo (CON trial) for 3 days then performed an inter-mittent anaerobic exercise test on a cycle ergometer. Blood samples were collected before supplementation, before and during exercise and 0, 3, 6, 10, 30 and 60 min after exercise. ARG trial had significantly higher arginine concentrations than CON trial at the same time point before, during and after exercise. In both trials, nitrate and nitrite con-centration was significantly higher during and 6 min after exercise comparing to the

basal concentration. The increase in nitrate and nitrite concentration during exercise in both trials was parallel to the increase in plasma citrulline concentrations.

There was no significant difference be-tween the 2 trials in plasma nitrate and ni-trite, lactate and ammonia concentrations and peak and average power in the exercise.

The results of this study suggested that short-term arginine supplementation had no effect on nitric oxide production, lactate and ammonia metabolism and performance in intermittent anaerobic exercise in well-trained male athletes.

to exercise, with one week separating condi-tions. Blood was collected before receiving the condition and immediately after exercise. StO2 was measured during the endurance test using Near Infrared Spectroscopy. Heart rate (HR) and rating of perceived exertion (RPE) were determined at the end of each set.

ResultsA condition effect was noted for StO2 at

the start of exercise (p = 0.02), with Glyco-Carn® higher than SUPP2. A condition effect was also noted for StO2 at the end of exer-cise (p = 0.003), with SUPP1 lower than all other conditions. No statistically significant interaction, condition, or time effects were noted for NOx or MDA (p > 0.05); however, MDA decreased 13.7% with GlycoCarn® and increased in all other conditions. Only a time effect was noted for HLa (p < 0.0001), with values increasing from pre- to post-exercise. No effects were noted for HR, RPE, or for any exercise performance variables (p > 0.05); however, GlycoCarn® resulted in a statistically insignificant greater total volume load com-pared to the placebo (3.3%), SUPP1 (4.2%), SUPP2 (2.5%), and SUPP3 (4.6%).

ConclusionNone of the products tested resulted in

favorable changes in our chosen outcome measures, with the exception of GlycoCarn® in terms of higher StO2 at the start of exer-cise. GlycoCarn® resulted in a 13.7% decrease in MDA from pre- to post-exercise and yield-ed a non-significant but greater total volume load compared to all other conditions. These data indicate that 1) a single ingredient (Gly-coCarn®) can provide similar practical benefit than finished products containing multiple ingredients, and 2) while we do not have data in relation to post-exercise recovery param-eters, the tested products are ineffective in terms of increasing blood flow and improving acute upper body exercise performance.

The second study:Here is complete proof that the three best

selling nitric oxide supplements do not do a damn thing for raising nitrate levels in the blood. I highlighted the most compelling part of the study.

Comparison of pre-workout nitric oxide stimulating dietary supplements on skeletal muscle oxygen saturation, blood nitrate/ni-trite, lipid peroxidation, and upper body exer-cise performance in resistance trained men

Journal of the International Society of Spo-rts Nutrition 2010, 7:16 doi: 10.1186/1550-2783-7-16

ABSTRACTBackground

We compared Glycine Propionyl-L-Carnitine (GlycoCarn®) and three different pre-workout nutritional supplements on measures of skel-etal muscle oxygen saturation (StO2), blood nitrate/nitrite (NOx), lactate (HLa), malondial-dehyde (MDA), and exercise performance in men.

MethodsUsing a randomized, double-blind, cross-

over design, 19 resistance trained men per-formed tests of muscular power (bench press throws) and endurance (10 sets of bench press to muscular failure). A placebo, Glyco-Carn®, or one of three dietary supplements (SUPP1, SUPP2, SUPP3) was consumed prior

that you can swallow right then and there. Here’s a little advice: THEY ARE JUNK! Why? Because, in order to keep the whey

protein inside of those little packages, they have to kill all the bacteria (i.e. salmonella, e. coli). Then they have to seal the packet while it’s still scorching hot. How hot? Try 200 de-grees. What’s wrong with that? Well, it DE-NATURES the protein making it a packet of worthless junk.

D-ASPARTIC ACIDAnthony Roberts wrote a good article on

this stuff. To sum up, he says this stuff sucks for boosting testosterone. Additionally, there about 1,000 other things that work better than this crap.

"As far as testosterone boosters go, DAA is a real loser – you need to take a ton and it hardly elevates testosterone. As a testosterone booster, it really, really sucks."

CAFFEINECaffeine is used many in preworkout supple-

ments. The supplement companies like to as-sume that if they add caffeine to supplements, you’ll enjoy the jittery, wired feeling while you do your routine. Well, let me tell you a little something. Even if you don’t mind the jitters, you’re not going to benefit your muscle build-ing with caffeine. In fact, caffeine is more ef-ficient at REDUCING muscle mass.

Caffeine stimulates cortisol release in the body . Cortisol (also called hydrocortizone or corticol steroid) is a CATABOLIC hormone. Catabolic means MUSCLE wasting. Not only does it wear away at your muscles, it also pro-motes bone degeneration, hypertension (high blood pressure), and dysregulation of the hy-po-pituitary axis (HPA), which is associated with numerous medical problems.

So, before you chug No X Nuclear explosion or JUMP3D Pre-workout Supplement laced with caffiene and Chinese shit, you should think twice. You will end up hindering your progess and possible reducing your overall health.

ENERGY SHOTSEnergy shots are the products that you see

on the counters by the registers at qwikie marts, Wawas and Seven Elevens. Six-hour or five-hour or whatever energy in little air-plane-liquor bottle-sized container.

These are nothing more than caffeine-con-centrate shots. Each one contains its own dos-age of caffeine mixed with nutracueticals, try-ing to one-up each other. They all suck.

If you are looking to build muscle, you don’t want to consume caffeine. The previous page has all the information you’ll need on taking caffeine as a supplement; but in case you for-got, I’ll sum it up. Caffeine increases cortisol, which decreases muscle and increases fat stor-age. Caffeine is absolutely terrible for body-building and it doesn’t really seem to be good for much else, either.

WAXY MAIZEA complete scam spawned from Vitargo. Vi-

targo is totally legit as they dont even use waxy maize anymore. Only buy from Genr8. Com-panies just tried to rip off Vitargo by reading the ingredients. They saw ‘waxy maize’ and dumbass supplement companies went out and bought waxy maize thinking it would work as well as Vitargo.

Well it doesn’t. Vitargo can be made from most plant starches. What makes Vitargo pat-ented and the Fastest Muscle Fuel™ is not the source or the molecular size; but the unique, patented molecular “handprint”, proven in university studies in athletes—not lab rats or test tubes—to greatly outperform other or-dinary carbs, from your gut to getting more performance within 2 hours after exhaustive exercise. In fact, the first two studies done on Vitargo used potato starch as the starting source.

For several years through 2005, Vitargo® was made from a special strain of corn that is

GET THE RIGHT BRANDhigher in starch—waxy maize. This is where other companies have gotten the idea of using different “waxy maize” starches.

However, none of these other, non-Vitargo starches have any human studies showing a Vi-targo® effect. Furthermore, some of these un-proven carbohydrate source might even cost less, however some of them, based upon labo-ratory analysis, are likely to be indigestible, de-livering little or no glucose to the blood, liver, and muscles. If you want Vitargo® results…get Vitargo®S2.

BETAPOWER (BETAINE)If you want to use a betaine supplement,

make sure you buy this one. It’s the raw ma-terial called beta power manufactured by Da-nisco. Its mixes pure and clear. You will find alot of chinese company's ripping this product off. Thus if you buy a supplement company's betaine supplement, make sure they are using BETA POWER®.

FLAX OILFlax Oil is an excellent product for building

muscle. The only thing you need to watch out for is the expiration dates. You gotta make sure that you get a fresh supply.

Omega Muscle® is an excellent choice for Flax Oil. Dan Duchaine, the world’s first sup-plement guru, at one time said that flax oil is the #1 supplement for bodybuilding.

RESVIDA (RESVERATROL)Resvida® is the only brand of resveratrol I

would consume. DSM, the same company that makes PeptoPro®, makes it. You will want to ensure that you use this brand of Res-v. The popularity of this raw material has prompted multiple versions to come out of China. So, if you buy any res-v, make sure that its Resvida brand.

Twenty years ago, many serious scientists thought they had found a “fountain of youth.” They found the “inner clock” in the DNA, which kills off all healthy lines of cells in the body when they reach the 50th generation. They found out how to turn it off; the prob-lem was that when they turned it off, cancer would proliferate.

People gave up; however, in recent years there have been new discoveries. To use a metaphor, engineers have learned how to build codes that can rid communication channels of back-ground noise.

Nature has done the same thing. There are specific genes that provide control over muta-

LEGITIMATE NUTRITIONAL PRODUCTS

tions, which cause cancer (and aging, except for the internal clock).

When these genes activate, it may cost a little extra food, but the noise rate goes way down. I don’t remember all of the details… but there is a SIRT1 gene and sirtuins…

There appear to be natural ways to double the action of these natural noise-killers. We do not know how much resveratrol would be required to double the remaining human lifetime, but we know it activates these genes. There may be bet-ter ways to activate them as well. After all, this is a new area of research and understanding.

People still argue about whether resveratrol helps explain why people who drink a glass of red wine every day live longer and are healthier (except in pregnancy). I would guess that it is not the small amount of resveratrol in the wine, but other ingredients, which are good for the heart and blood system.

However, this Costco® product has those oth-er ingredients as well. Some people I know as-sert that there are Mediterranean wines, which have more resveratrol than what we have in here. But, I don’t know; there are some Greek wines (and Ukrainian and Moldavian), which could conceivably be better…

POWERBUTTERThis is natural peanut butter with egg whites

and flax oil. I tried some of this and I must say I like it. I just hate mixing it and it’s a pain in the ass to spread. Still, I do love my P & J’s; I use this and a sugar-free jelly with some whey crisps on top. It makes for a great lunch.

HIGH PROTEIN BREADThis is good stuff. I use two slices of this

bread, with power butter, and whey crisps, and jelly. Super anabolic peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Cancer results from all kinds of random mutations that occur in ordinary life. Some of it comes from background radiation, which we have no concious control over.

KONARED Great supplement out of Hawaii. Read Deal;

very good quality. Use it for postworkout; plus, it has a small, tolerable amount of caffeine to give a little kick without causing the problems that caffeine-based products may cause.

TRIBESTANTribestan is the ONLY form of Tribulus you

should use. It is the ONLY legit Tribulus prod-uct on the market. Many, many companies purchase tribulus but it does not have any ac-tive ingredient in it.

Last but not least…Every year, a major bodybuilding on-

line site comes out with their “Supplement Awards”. These supplements awards are one of the biggest deceptive marketing tactics in the history of the sports nutrition indus-try. Typically, when you think of an Awards Ceremony, like the Academy Awards or the Oscars, you think a group of professionals and peers choose the winners; therefore the winners of the awards have something to be proud of making.

I guarantee, not even one of these people have EVER created a bodybuilding supple-ment... In fact, I’ll bet that not ONE of these people have ever conducted a single study on a bodybuilding supplement. The only thing they have done is try to figure out a way to sell the crap that they didn’t even make!

The bodybuilding supplement awards are nothing but one, big, fat, steaming pile of de-ceptive marketing bullshit!

One year, one of the winners was respon-sible for a massive FDA recall because their “fat burner” was killing people. In the 2012 supplement awards, one of the winners was using an illegal drug called DMAA in their product. Oh yeah, and YES, people did DIE from taking their product.

The FDA finally caught up to them and cleaned house. The Brand of the Year was

THE BODYBUILDING SUPPLEMENT AWARDS

given to a company selling a nitric oxide product based on L-Arginine. As you might have read here previously, L-Arginine is one of the biggest scams in supplement history. NEVER has L-arginine been proven to do anything for nitrate levels in the blood. Then, the award ‘breakout brand’… well, that’s the biggest joke of all.

The former owner of this monsterous bodybuilding site is allegedly on the board of directors of the company that was awarded ‘break-out brand’. Hmmm… do you think it had anything to do with the fact that he used to own this bodybuilding site? Oh yea and let me throw this in too for shits and giggles. The largest online seller of bodybuilding sup-plements and its CEO and a former president were sentenced in July of 2012 to pay crimi-nal fines totaling $8.1 million on misdemea-nor changes of selling misbranded products. The world’s largest Internet supplement re-tailer, must pay $7 million for violations of the federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. The CEO must pay $500,000. His brother, former President will pay $600,000.

What makes me want to vomit even more is that every year at the some large fitness expo in the heart of the country, the bodybuilding awards are handed out during the pathetic ceremony. What a joke this is! It just goes to show you what a lousy, disgusting industry sports nutrition has become. Idiots trying to make money by selling you their worthless supplements and scamming you with their overly-hyped marketing techniques.

The bodybuilding supplement awards take the cake and the prize for “Biggest Fraud Out There”.

Finally, I have put together my own sup-plement awards. Yes I am just one person but let me tell you why my “Bodybuilding Supplement Awards” are better than these “assholic awards”.

With the so-called ‘bodybuilding supplements awards’, the winners are chosen by (we can only guess) the owners/officers/v.p’s and whomever else works for the company. You want to talk about a scam! These guys are experts in selling bodybuilding supplements and marketing their junk; not actually formulating supplements, manufacturing them, and following FDA guidelines.

THE BODYBUILDING SUPPLEMENT AWARDS

1. My choices for the awards are not based on how popular the product is. Just because a supplement company is popular doesnt mean it should win an award. In my awards we hold our standards a little higher and omit com-panies whom products have killed people.

2. My choices for the awards are based on real research. Not the marketing claims that the supplement companies themselves come out with. Here another case in point. This was taken from Anthony Roberts.info blog “…when compared to creatine monohydrate, creatine ethyl ester was not as effective at in-creasing serum and muscle creatine levels or in improving body composition, muscle mass, strength, and power….Since creatine ethyl ester supplementation showed a large increase in serum creatinine levels through-out the study with no significant increase in serum and total muscle creatine content, it can be concluded that a large portion of the creatine ethyl ester was being degraded with-in the GI tract after ingestion. Furthermore, it appears that the skeletal muscle uptake of creatine ethyl ester uptake was not significant enough to increase skeletal muscle creatine levels without significant degradation to cre-atinine occurring.” (PMID: 19228401)

These awards are based on ingredients, quality, safety, and effectiveness; not how fan-cy the label is or how many units were sold.

….By the way, no one is paying me off to do this!

BEST FAT BURNERWhen you hear the words ‘FAT BURNER’,

you think of a product that is going to burn the fat off your body, right? Well, did you know that there really is only about two prod-ucts that can actually do that?

These two products are green tea and cap-saicin. Yea I know about caffeine, but I con-sider that a drug and not a bodybuilding/

sports nutrition product. Therefore, I give the award to DSM’s Teavigo.

It is the finest quality Green Tea Extracts in the world. Look for the trademark TEAVIGO in the product; that will be the best fat burner that your money can buy.

BEST WEIGHT-LOSS PRODUCT

Now this product is a weight loss prod-uct. Here’s a fact for you: the ONLY way to lose fat is to reduce your calories and expend more energy during the day then you take in… and that’s the bottom line!

Therefore, I’m giving the ‘Best Weigth-Loss Product’ award to the product that can sup-press the appetite the most.

And the award goes to… Pinnothin! This is an oil product from the Korean Pin Nut Tree and it comes in oil form, which I think is more effective and more absorbable then a capsule.

BEST WEIGHT GAINERTo achieve the opposite of weight loss, you

have to do the opposite: consume more calo-

and scam artists still rule the sports nutrition industry."

ries than you take in per day. Dietary fat is the best way to increase your calories. Why? Fat has nine calories per gram as opposed to protein and carbs, which only have four.

So, if you want to gain weight, start chug-ging down the dietary fat. Therefore, the award goes to Barleans Total Omega. This is a combination of flax and fish.

BEST MUSCLE BUILDING SUPPLEMENT

Did you know that, after all of these years, there is still only a few ingredients that are ac-tually proven to increase muscle mass? They are creatine, CLA, and Forslean.

Out of these three, we have to give the award to creatine. You want to use Creapure, the German brand. If you buy ANY other forms of creatine, you’ll be buying something made in China… and personally, I wouldn’t put anything into my body made in China.

BEST MULTI-VITAMINWhen you think of a multi-vitamin, you’re

looking for a product to enchance your over-all health. “Hey, I take this multi-vitamin and I feel better”.

Well, if you want the most POTENT multi-vitamin on the planet, you want something coming directly from nature, not something made synthetically in some lab.

The most potent food on the plant is grown in Hawaii and it sold under the brand name Cynatech Spirulina. Don’t settle for any other brands!

BEST PROTEIN BAR (NOT BASED ON TASTE)Well it’s a site really, called youbar.com. You can make your own bar and avoid all the sugar alcohols that every bar has. The runnerup is Metaballs, out of Vermont.

BEST PROTEINThe award goes to Leuvon from Glanbia

Nutritionals. It is actually a hydrolyzed whey isolate and is about 50% leucine. Leucine is a major player in protein synthesis. And now its in peptide form. Not like L-Leucine, which doesn’t really work.

BEST TESTOSTERONE PRODUCT

If you look at the studies, those that are legitimately preformed by the company that actually makes the ingredients, no testoster-one product is more compelling than LJ100. LJ100 really raises up your testosterone level more then any other testosterone supplement on the market.

BEST NEW INGREDIENTThis award goes to Myo T12, the first pow-

dered product to contain active follistatin. Follistatin reduces myostatin in the body. Myostatin has a catabolic (muscle wasting) effect. Thus by reducing myostatin the po-tential for new muscle growth could be huge.

BEST PRE WORKOUTThis award goes to Oligonol. It’s the world’s

only pre-digested super fruit. Talk about muscle recovery... it also has some vasodi-altion properties, which is good for a better pump.

BEST POST WORKOUTThe award goes to Futracueticals Modified

Carbohydrate, which contains six all-natural carbs. Great for postworkout carbs and of course you want to combine it with a protein.

BEST COMPANYThe award goes to Proteinfactory.com. This

is the only company where you can make your own protein powders at super low pric-es. They carry proteins you’ll never find any-where else and you can order them in the way that is best for you! Oh yea it’s my company...yea yea yea, I’m biased!!
