n Honorary Fellow of the Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society, Manny Ling is a highly regarded freelance designer, typographer, calligrapher and lettering artist.

Since working as a digital typeface designer for Letraset in the early 90s, he has gone on to exhibit, teach workshops and lecture around the world,including the London College of Printing, and is currently a programme leader for the MA Design: Multimedia and Graphics programme at the University of Sunderland.

Alongside this, he is Director of the International Research Centre for Calligraphy.

Being a Chinese person practising Western calligraphy

my life. I like the contrasts and contradictions in my work: East

and West, Old and New, Energy and Stillness. Glass which can be hot and cold,

liquid and solid, transparent and opaque has always held a

fascination for me.
