“Yes it did, mighty Darkseid. The Swamp Thing shall complete the final stage of his journey to Earth, via a

Boom Tube star gate portal forged from the long-instated technology of New Genesis. In terms of Terran

resolution, he shall reach the positive-matter Earth of Sol-3 by the date of March 15, 1987, more than

three Terran months from now. The stasis delay is due to his negative emotional reaction to the aleph’s

Qwardian fracture. I was far more prepared for the experience than he would ultimately be. The Linear

Men may very well commune with him during this time, though you may not.”

“Did you impart any invaluable information to the swamp creature during your elapsed term with him?”

“Of course not! But in the spirit of my liege lord, great Orion of New Genesis, I suggested that the

creature systematically smite his earthly enemies unto death before returning to his priorly primitive

peaceful existence in the marshes with his chosen human life-mate. He swears unyielding loyalty and

affection to a human weakling female, no less! Such motivational standards are beyond even my

comprehension.”

Darkseid took the beeping Mother Box computer unit in hand. “No matter. You have honored our bet,

Metron. You have earned your reward.” Darkseid removed the isotope-X from his belt and tossed it to

Metron, who caught it gratefully.

“Now I may commence the discovery of the true nature of the Source that felled the Promethean

Giants!” said Metron. “Victory for New Genesis is within reach.” Metron launched his chair into space

and vanished.

Darkseid laughed. “Foolish intellectual inferior! The Anti-Life Equation shall allow room only for Darkseid

to unravel the secrets of the Source! Let Metron waste his time as he wishes. This Mother Box unit has

given me the secret I desire — a complete understanding of the Swamp Thing’s true power!”

The lord of Apokolips crushed the Mother Box in his hand, destroying it. “The living computer Brainiac

sought an ally behind which to protect itself. But his interference has added a new factor to my

equation. A cosmic odyssey will soon begin, making Darkseid master of all he surveys. And it is all due to

the Swamp Thing’s greatest strength and the source of his ultimate madness, what compelled him to

journey through the stars and infinity itself to complete his incredible return home — the nature of his

Darkseid stared intently at the Swamp Thing’s discarded physical form, still in the shape of a makeshift

Mobius Chair.

“Hey!” Ocean Master yelled, grasping at the air but failing to touch the object that flew over his

head.

“Oh n-n-no!” Tin cried as he realized Mercury’s pass was heading straight for him.

“I’ve got it!” Platinum said, forming a curved sloop with body. The artifact hit one end of the

slide and slid out the other end. “Head’s up!”

“No! Give that back!”

Iron stretched out his hand. “No way!” the robot said, catching the item in his hand. He

immediately created a solid box about it with his two hands.

“Give it back!” Ocean Master pleaded, pounding on the robot’s metal hide. “I worked hard to

locate that missing ancient item of power, so it belongs to me!” He ignored the pain as he

continued to thud against Iron.

“Item of power, huh?” Iron said. “Well if you want it badly enough to send sharks and tidal

waves on innocent people, there’s no way you’re getting it!” Suddenly, his hands ground

together like a trash compactor. A slight sklitch sound could be heard as the gem was shattered.

“Oops.” But the look on Iron’s face indicated it was hardly an accident.

“Fools!” Ocean Master cried out. “How could you?”

“Easy!” said Gold, who had recovered. “Just as easy as this!” With a well-thrown punch to the

jaw, the robot knocked Ocean Master across the beach. The villain hit the sand with a thud and

slipped into unconsciousness.

The others regrouped around the defeated villain. “All’s well… uh… that ends… well,” Lead

said.

“We saved the day and stopped the villain,” Gold concurred. “Great job, everyone.”

Suddenly, a voice called out. “Gold! Iron! Lead! Tin! Platinum! Mercury!” Doc Magnus

appeared over the edge of the dune, dressed now in the beach attire but not looking very amused.

“U-u-uh-oh,” Tin said.

“Relax,” Platinum said. “After all this, sightseeing with Doc will be a breeze!” The robots all

laughed.

War of the Devils cont;

“No one knows for sure,” said Sara Wise Owl. “My great, or great-great

uncle was his blood-brother a long time ago. So our family has been

taking care of him for a while. Family legend says he was struck by

lightning for an act of cowardice, and has been a vegetable since

then. Physically there’s nothing wrong with him, according to the

doctors who have seen him. He just sits in his chair and stares.”

“How long has he been like that?” Dan asked, thinking the answer was

something he really didn’t need to know.

“A hundred years, maybe,” said Sara.

“You’re kidding, right?” asked Dan. “How has he survived for that long

out here?”

“The dryness of the desert is a great preserver,” said Sara. “That’s

an odd question for someone who has seen people fly.”

“Only once or twice,” said Dan. “I admit Man-Bat is someone you don’t

forget, no matter how much you try.”

Sara laughed.

“Just one more question,” said Sheriff Savage. “Then we’ll be on our

way.”

“Go ahead,” said Sara.

“Just want to know if you saw a pattern in all of this.”

“Night-hunting like a cougar or coyote,” said Sara. “It’s too smart to

be a cougar, though.”

“Thanks,” said Savage. “Let’s go, Dan.”

“What’s your idea?” asked Dan as the two walked back to the sheriff’s

Jeep.

“What makes you think I have an idea?” Sheriff Savage asked mildly.

“Because you have that gleam in your eye that means I’m about to get

beat on for not minding my own business,” replied Blue Devil.

The Spectre and Superboy just watched in stunned silence. Then the Spectre quickly waved his arms and said, “Let the mist of Morpheus put the hounds of hell asleep.” Zor cackled then. “They’re immune to magic, you miserable ghost.” Alexander Lane, the Monitor, suddenly materialized between the three heroes and quickly warned them not to hit the hell-hounds, because one blow would kill them, and that the other three were the Corrigan family. “What?” screamed the Spectre. “Meddling scum, die!” screamed Zor as he fired a bolt of magic lightning at Alexander. Superboy stepped in front of Alexander and took the bolt. The force of the bolt knocked C.J. into Alexander as both young men fell to the ground unconscious. The giant hell-hounds now surrounded Superman and the Spectre. Superman flew C.J. and Alexander out of harm’s way, but the Spectre stood there transfixed. Superman flew back, grabbed the Spectre, and flew up into the sky just as flames from the five giant hell-hounds were about to converge on him. The giant hell-hounds jumped up at them and circled the Kent farm. “Jim, snap out of it.” “Andrea, the girls — it’s my fault.” “No. It’s Zor’s fault. He’s the villain. We’ve got to save our families.” “How? They’re immune to my magic.” “They’re sure to defend Zor if we attack him, and I’m certain that they’ll move on to attack Smallville if we stay up here. It’s just the way villains think.” “What do we do?” asked the Spectre with tears in his eyes. Corrigan was not handling this situation at all well. He knew it, and was trying to get a grip on himself. Superman was inspiring him, as he was in the same situation and was the very essence of calm. Superman smiled a grim smile. “They’re not immune to the Sandman’s sleep gas. And add a little kryptonite in the formula for my Mary,” he said sadly. The Spectre nodded in agreement, and a cloud of gas came over the giant hell-hounds. Zor watched and laughed again as he again said, “I told you, Spectre, my pets are immune to your magic.” Zor’s jaw dropped as the cloud cleared, and he saw the sleeping forms of the Kent and Corrigan families; they had been transformed back to normal when they fell asleep. From out of the cloud, he saw two angry heroic figures coming directly at him. An angry Superman flew directly at Zor with both of his fists directly ahead of him, while the Spectre spent a barrage of mystic energy at Zor. When Superman was within five feet of Zor, he was stopped cold, not by a force-field nor wall of energy, but simple inertia. The Man of Steel just hung in the air, unable to fly any farther. Zor laughed. “I am more powerful than either of you. I shall defeat you both and kill your families.” Superman planted his feet on the ground and concentrated, firing his heat-vision at Zor. The only thing was that the heat-ray from Superman’s eyes moved terribly slowly. Zor was easily able to move out of the way. The Man of Steel frowned, and with great effort he took a step toward Zor. All the while the Spectre unleashed the full force of his mystical fury at Zor, to no effect. The astral avenger was also advancing toward the sorcerer, though he hadn’t yet touched Zor’s inertia field. As Superman took his second step, he realized that the inertia field would get stronger as he advanced on Zor. He smiled grimly as he also knew that he had enough strength to get to the sorcerer. It would just take a couple of minutes. Zor noticed the Metropolis marvel walking steadily toward him and gestured at the Man of Steel, whose costume suddenly turned into kryptonite. Superman screamed in agony as he collapsed to the ground in a heap.

COMICOPIA #403 Welcome back faithful fans to the best darn nerd report in all the IWA! I am your obscure superhero, intrepid reporter and occasional wrestling stooge the one and only Ambush Bug with another thrilling edition of Comicopia. The SHL is steamrolling. What a great time to be in the SHL. Did you know, that the SHL is the 10th oldest league in the IWA? And the 3rd oldest in the Jade? The SHL has been a mainstay for well over a 2 decades, we are just getting started. Excited about the next 397 cycles! Let’s get this party started. Wandavision – As a DC character I scoped out the perimeter and tuned into Disney Plus to catch the buzz on this show. The early episodes were good, with lots of nods to comics and the original series. Then in the final two episodes the bottom dropped out, and there is no big baddy at the end. No Mephisto! No Nightmare! No Satan Shoes! It could lead into the House of M or Wanda being the villain in Doctor Strange 2. (2 comic book NO Prizes out of 10) Zack Snyder’s Justice League – The hype is real! Darkseid is more menacing and makes Thanos look like a purple Staypuff Marshmallow Man. There is a few scenes that were deleted from this release that made us sad. The Aquaman golden lasso monologue should have made the cut. It was fun, lighthearted and the look he gives the Flash at the end would have been a nice send off to what they were about to face. Overall the extended version was better than the original, just not enough Green Lantern in it. The Easter egg bonus scenes were ok, unnecessary, but ok. (9 Comic Book NO prizes out of 10) Wonder Woman 1984 – After much anticipation WW got her second movie. It had action, the introduction of Maxwell Lord and Cheetah, as well as the return of the long dead Steve Trevor. There was some really great moments in the movie. However, there was also an undertone of New Age culture. Instead of being a straight super hero movie, we got a message that was pointless and superfluous in its delivery. The fight scenes between WW and Cheetah were few, and frankly I would have liked to see more of the two old foes going toe to toe. Maxwell Lord isn’t the super telepath that he is in the Comics (remember he had control of Superman at one point and WW had to break his neck to break his hold over Superman?) and some guy that got a hold of a talisman that gives him the power of wishing. Total disappointment in his usage. (6 Comic Book NO prizes out of 10) Superman & Lois – So we finally have a new Superman series and what’s not to love? Tyler Hoechlin is the small screen Superman, moving his family back to Smallville after he loses his job at the Daily Planet. After Crisis on Infinite Earth’s he and Lois have twin sons, Jordan & Jon. Everyone suspects that Jon has inherited his dad’s powers but it turns out that Jordan has his own set of powers. I suspect that Jon & Jordan will be the CW’s version of Superman Red & Supeman Blue from the comic series. Each with a different set of powers and abilities. There is a new Luthor from an alternate time line, with the mad desire to kill this time line’s Superman. It’s a lot better than I expected and its worth watching. (7 comic book NO prizes out of 10) Quick Takes The Falcon & Winter Soldier – good first episode with War Machine, Flag Smasher and our own Batroc & Major America making their Disney Plus appearances. This would have been better had it been a Captain America and the Falcon series. The Flash – now that Mirror Monarch is safely tucked away into her mirrorverse, the strong force, sage force and speed force will be focused on this season. Those forces were introduced into the Flash series a few years ago and it’ll be interesting how they’ll develop over the weeks and episodes ahead. “Well faithful fans there you have it. Another edition of the hottest topics in the world of nerdom. Heroes, villains, sci-fi and much more brought to you every cycle by your own superhero reporter, the beloved curmudgeon Ambush Bug. It has been an incredible return to the SHL. Now I am moving to the next level. I have donned the mask and competing in the UWL. Who better to be the last man standing, than your SHL beloved double-A? This does not mean that I am not focused on becoming the Global Heavy Weight Champion and defending these tags and six-man titles against all comers. Rhyno, as I said last time to Spider, this Arkham Way Championship punches my ticket for a shot at that title you hold right now. The Global is not enough, no, it is not. I want my shot at the Triple Crown Championship. That is the elite of the elite Championships. Commissioner Jones, I am throwing my gauntlet into the ring, all you have to do is point me in the right direction and who I have to beat to punch my ticket to that main event of main events! beats HYDRO down with the chair. EY pull out a table from beneath the ring and sets it up. Pulling HYDRO to

his feet, lifts him up over this head and tosses him over the ropes and through the table. HYDRO is writhing in

pain s YOUNG kicks him repeatedly in the head, yelling “YOU DON’T BELONG HERE! THIS IS OUR

WORLD!” Officials and EMT’s rush out to check on HYDRO as RHYNO and EY exit the arena. In the back

EY is holding court with RHYNO. “I smell fear in the air. I beat E.J. so badly – he should retire to save him the

embarrassment of facing me again. You have the option of getting out before being put out. Do you hear me

E.J.? Progress through the holy baptism of punishment. HYDRO you do not belong in the same world as us.

of the way as he and RHYNO enter their locker room.

“There is a sweet smell in the air, SHL, do you

adds. “So many warriors here claim to be this

(The World Class Maniac enters a room and places the Hardcore title on a table

and takes a seat. Smirking he begins to talk) “If I were a mad scientist, I would go

into my secret lab and build the perfect war machine. Big, strong, explosive, no
