Hi all, for those who couldn't make it to the Borumba Dam trip, you missed out on a great time. We had 13 members and 6 boats attend. The fishing wasn't that great, but it is a beautiful place to camp and fish. The nights around the camp fire were very entertaining. Storms were predicted and Friday avo and we were up the creek fishing when the thunder started, so we headed back to the ramp and the storm hit us half way back. It turned flat water into 2 to 3 foot waves in a matter of minutes.

There were some senior moments out on the water with one boat running out of fuel because he didn't connect the fuel tank to the hose. ( it took 2 members 15 minutes to figure this out.) The same boat had there bungs forgotten twice in the same day, and then he ran straight into the green bouy near the ramp. I promised I wouldn't mention Wayne's name. Cheers Vince.

September has been up and down weather wise, with hot and cold, windy and fine. A few thunderstorms, a bit of rain that came, and rain forecast that didn’t eventuate. The Offshore comp south of Point Cartwright was postponed to due to strong winds forecast but turned out to be a reasonable weekend. What do you do? The Borumba Dam trip away was a great trip from all accounts with some good fun and stories coming from it. Fish of the Month this current period is Bass and Amberjack so it

will be good to see who had success on these two species at the next meeting. Fish of the month for October are Whiting (any species) and Kingfish (Yellowtail and Black). I am going away for a week fishing and whale watching in Hervey Bay, so I am writing this before the “Offshore south of Point Cartwright” competition goes ahead. We will have an update of how it went at the next meeting. Till then, Fishful Thinking, Regards Chris For the Members’ meeting October 11th: All members are asked to try and attend to vote on a Committee recommendation to change the day on which Future members meetings are to be held. Members vote and support is required to make this amendment to our yearly Events Calendar. For John Pope Golf Day October 28 It will be a very enjoyable 9 holes of social golf followed by lunch. Heaps of prizes to be given away. A much to do social event on our yearly calander. Please let Joe know your intentions for booking and catering purposes.

WAYNE NILSSON’S TRIP TO CLAIRVIEW I have just returned from a 10 day fishing trip with 2 mates to Clairview, on the central Qld coast, where we stayed in a fishing holiday house right on the beach 500yds from the boat ramp. We were able to fish the islands off the coast where we caught pikey bream, mangrove jack (photo), sharks & cat fish which was a bit disappointing, but the locals blamed the neap tides and water temp was only 20 degrees ( there is always a good excuse). When the tide goes out, it really goes out a long, long, long way!

We decided to fish Clairview Creek and with a variety of lures, plastics and bait, we managed to catch 12 different species, including mangrove jack, estuary cod, pikey bream, batfish, and both mud and sand crabs, we even caught whiting in front of the house. All in all a very good fishing trip with mates I’ve been fishing with for forty years (shows my age). The only hassle was on the way home we blew a head gasket on the F100 and it arrived in Maroochydore on the back of a tilt tray truck, thanks to RACQ. 18/9/12 MEETING WITH JOHN McVEIGH

MINISTER FOR FISHERIES & AGRICULTURE

Wayne Knibb, Ross Roberts and Wayne Nilsson had a meeting with John McVeigh after an invitation by him, following a letter sent by us, just after the LNP won the election for Queensland Government. This meeting was held at the DPI Research Centre, Nambour.

Or, I’m told, for leaving bungs out of boats, inappropriate use of fuel lines, or collisions with navigation aides

Our first question to him was – Were there any changes to size, bag limits and closures? He indicated that these would all stay the same for the time being. Next Question- Would a fishing licence be introduced? and he responded- Definitely Not!!! Next Question- the need for fish cleaning tables at Mooloolaba Boat Ramp, at the Coast Guard? He advised us that there was NO funding available. Which was the same response to the question regarding Artificial Reefs offshore, Sunshine Coast. I believe our meeting was worthwhile even though it seemed he was a bit negative, but as he is new to the position he would keep us up to date on any future changes.

Monday 17th September 2012 Snapper caught at Caloundra 12 mile, weighed 2kg cleaned (no gills or gut) unfortunately not much else to report on that day.

Good jacks have turned up at Eudlo Ck, this one was caught on plastic just on dark and was 2kg and 53 cm.

Grahame caught the 77cm dew (just legal) with pilchards, tackle was 15 pound main line mono, 40 pound fluro carbon leader. It was caught about 8pm Monday 17th September 10kms north of Nygala rocks Fraser Island. Catching lots of Taylor between 30-40 cms at the Nygala rocks on spinner slug lures. Cheers, Megan Bishop

The do’s and don’t of club fishing trips Joe’s tips when you join the sunshine coast sportfishing club for an outing.

Remember to remove your fingers while erecting the club’s new tarp otherwise there could be a kreisis.

If you want to bare foot ski with a land start, you better be a hardman, don’t mind getting a bit wet and losing a bit of bark.

While there are only one or two buoys, they are a clear a present danger – ask your crew to be vigilant and keep a lookout, because on rare occasions boaties have been know to collide with them

If you want to escape to the country to hear the birds, to experience the tranquillity, the serenity, then do not camp besides buz saw Bob, asthmatic Anthony, vibrating Vince or wheezing Wayne

Imbil proverb: Man who tries to open a deck chair by sitting and rocking better not have imbilance
