Snippets of Sunnyside’s Story

Sunnyside’s Windows to our world.

Many of our current Sunnyside members remember worshiping in the old building on the corner of SE Washington and SE 43rd Ave. When the congregation eventually transitioned to our current position on Market Street, the most important aspect of continuity was the people

who brought their sense of mission from one church building to the other. But there is something else, something unique! The stained glass windows were a special feature of the old building, representing, in a way, that very mission.

For many years, this image was on the front of the weekly bulletin of the time:

I love the fact that we brought with us two of the original windows that beautifully adorned the sides of the 43rd Ave building. A visit to the old building will reveal the filled-in spaces where these windows used to be, one on each side.

Of course you now find these two windows installed in our current church building, the two upper halves on either side of the front doors in the narthex and the bottom halves in the South wall of the Room #61 fellowship hall.

By the way, look out for the ways the colors in these windows will be included in the “ReNewed” sanctuary color schemes. This is another way we demonstrate continuity in who we are at Sunnyside.

But most important is the diversity of color in our ministries as a church family called Sunnyside. May we continue to be a multi-faceted light in our world.

Blessings,

Pastor Dave Allen
