3 System Description SMA Solar Technology AG

8 FSS-IAS-en-21 Installation Manual - Quick Reference Guide

3 System DescriptionThe SMA Flexible Storage System is intended to support increased self-consumption through the following measures:

Buffering of excess PV energy with battery

Plant monitoring and load control with Sunny Home Manager

The Sunny Island uses the connected battery to buffer excess PV energy. Via the Sunny Home Manager, the Sunny Islandreceives the data of the connected energy meter and thus records feed-in and purchased electricity. Based on this data, the Sunny Island battery management regulates the charging and discharging of the battery.

The Sunny Home Manager receives location-based weather forecasts via the Internet and uses them to create a yieldforecast for the PV plant. In addition, the Sunny Home Manager detects how much energy is typically consumed atcertain times in a household and uses this to create a load profile of the household. The Sunny Home Manager uses theyield forecast and the load profile to determine favourable times for increasing the self-consumption rate and switchesthe electrical loads connected to the SMA radio-controlled sockets on and off as necessary. If required by the networkoperator, the Sunny Home Manager also monitors the active power feed-in of the PV plant. If the network operator'smaximum permissible value for active power feed-in is exceeded, the Sunny Home Manager sends power reductioncommands to the SMA PV inverters. The PV plant can consist of PV inverters with Bluetoothcommunication and PV

    inverters with Speedwire communication.
