God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died
for us.” Romans 5:8
Your heart keeps a steady beat, pumping blood throughout your
body. Your body needs blood to bring nutrients to your cells. When you hear
your heart beat you know that your body is getting what it needs to stay
alive.
The rhythm of life, spiritually speaking, is the Divine Service. We
need it because we are by nature sinful and unclean. Without Christ our
hearts would just circulate Bad Blood. With bitter feelings, selfish motives,
and greed, our lives would be an endless cycle of pursuing happiness (which
we’d never attain). What happens when your body circulates Bad Blood?
You die.
…Unless you get a transfusion. And that, in a sense, is what Jesus does. He
took your Bad Blood and gave you His Righteous Blood, which made
payment for your sins on the cross. Once you are united with Christ in
baptism, you’re cleansed.
But the devil would like you to deny treatment. He wants you
comfortable in your sins to the point that you don’t think you need Christ.
And so Christ gives us the heartbeat of our Christian life, the Divine Service,
where Jesus comes weekly to give us what we need. He removes our sin and
gives new life to us through absolution, preaching, and Holy Communion.
When we sing the liturgy, we do so with loud rejoicing because we are
witnessing something better than a medical miracle: Christ giving eternal life
to His Church.
When your heart skips a bit, you will stay alive, but if it stops for too
long, you will die. It may not hurt you to miss worship once, but if you stay
away from the heartbeat of Jesus’ grace too long, your faith will suffer.
This Lenten season we’ll have extra time to reflect upon Christ’s
life-giving sacrifice. Fasting, somber worship, and prayerful meditation will
help us in our repentance to purge from our lives those things which take our
focus away from serving Christ in His Kingdom. Then when Easter
celebration comes, we will be reminded that Christ’s heart is still beating,
which means we will be raised with pure, youthful hearts, never to
malfunction again! To HIM be the glory!
Sounds of the Passion: There were many critical sounds heard during the Passion story of Christ. The rooster crowing. The feet trampling. The silver clanking. Join us as we listen to the many unique sounds of Lent and learn of what Jesus did for us on the cross.

Therefore…Be Steadfast
Each year Christians look forward to the penitential season of Lent. That
seems strange to some who don’t understand the blessings this time affords.
Among these is time set aside to focus on our own sins and then to place them
purposefully at the foot of the cross, knowing that Christ has already paid the
penalty in our place.
Another blessing arises from knowing that Lent is a period of time that
culminates in Easter, that day the whole Christian Church rejoices together
over the victory Christ won as He rose from the dead. His resurrection is ours!
The Apostle Paul wrote, “The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the
law. But thanks be to God, Who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus
Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:56-57).
He followed this declaration with the word “therefore,” implying that
something should happen as a result of this great victory: we should “be
steadfast” We should be “immovable” We should “always [abound] in the
work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain” (1
Corinthians 15:58).
As God’s people, we are “steadfast” and “immovable” as we rely on God’s
strength. In the words of Paul to the people in Ephesus, “Finally, be strong
in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the whole armor of God,
that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not
wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities,
against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual
forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of
God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all,
to stand firm” (Ephesians 6:10-13). God has fully equipped us, and He
defends us. Through the faith that God gives us, we can place our total trust
in Him to be with us as we face our battles.
Rejoicing in the victory that Jesus has won for us on the cross and through His
resurrection, we keep our eyes on Him and remain steadfast. We do the work
our Father has prepared for us to do, for we know our labor is not in vain. We
are eager to live in Jesus’ victory.
Blessings on your stewardship journey!
Preschool News
They say March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. I
know that we have a ferocious amount of Kindergarten
preparedness to continue to tackle. We also have so many science
and social studies topics we are covering.
In February our chick eggs arrived and we cared for the eggs,
watched them hatch and cared for the babies until the farm came
back to pick them up. This was such an inspiring lesson for the
children.
We are learning about equality and the beauty of our differences
as human beings and God's children. We are learning about
kindness and tolerance in a world that is not so forgiving.
On St. Patrick's day we will have a little visitor wreaking havoc
and the children will surely be amazed. We will have a green
buffet and learn about the culture of the Irish.
Finally, we will be learning about spring as we watch March comes
to an end. Hopefully we will see the growth that each new spring
brings as we prepare ourselves and our preschool children for the
resurrection of our Lord, Jesus.
God bless you all!
