CLC Social Ministry and Mission ~ August 2016 “Do not forget to do good and to help one another, because these are the sacrifices that please God.” (Hebrews 13:16)

August’s specific emphasis is to provide monetary support for ELCA’s Global Missions, and specifically the Mark and Linda Jacobson Family in Tanzania. The Jacobsons last visited our congregation in July 2013, as part of a trip to the U.S. Members of the Shaefer-Rowberg, Wangerin, and Adams families (CLC members) have visited the Jacobsons in Tanzania at various times. CLC volunteers have sent medical supplies to Dr. Jacobson. ELCA mission support gifts go to programs that minister directly to those in need or for educational programs for pastors, teachers, and lay people who work daily to bring the love of Christ to people in need of support for the mind, body, and spirit. See the Social Ministry Bulletin Board concerning ELCA Global Missions and to see details about the Jacobson’s medical work and ministry in Africa. CLC’s goal of raising $3000 (a combination of extra envelope giving, Birthday ThankOfferings, & a budgeted amount) will help the Jacobson’s with their ministry in the Selian Hospital at Arusha, Tanzania. CLC is designated as an ELCA missionary partner congregation. Use your weekly worship service envelope and indicate “Jacobsons” on the line marked Social Ministry with the amount you wish to give in addition to your regular giving. Thank you for your support of monthly social ministry emphasis needs.

It's Time for Bread Breakers!

A new year of Bread Breakers is starting this fall and now is the time to sign up! What is Bread Breakers you ask?

Bread Breakers is a short-term dinner group that will meet in the fall and winter months, beginning in October and ending in May. Each fall, new groups will form and people can decide if they would like to sign up again.

Just as Jesus welcomed all at the table, all are welcome at Bread Breakers. There are “Adults only” small groups and “Family” small groups that people can choose from. It is not necessary to be a member of Christ Lutheran Church to be a part of a group. Groups will start with about 8 people but may add a few more to allow for new interested members.

Individual groups decide when, where, and how often they will meet. You can meet once a month, every 6 weeks, or every other month—completely up to the group to decide. It is not necessary for each member of a group to host a meal in their home, as it may not be feasible for them. Groups can decide if they want their meals to be pot-lucks or hosted by a particular group member. You can be creative as you want with this-- themed dinners (Italian, Mexican, etc) game nights, murder mystery dinners, or pizza and bowling at the bowling alley! Possible locations of groups can be individual’s homes, restaurants, or the church hall at CLC. Again, your group can decide and have all the flexibility it needs!

There are sign up sheets in the east link or you can email or call Amy Knauff to say that you are interested in being in a group: [email protected] / 219-242-7448.
