The 2016 Indiana-Kentucky Synod Assembly Needs Volunteers! South Bend, IN

There are several opportunities over the course of the assembly: we will need help unloading items from a truck/van on Wednesday, June 8th (morning and/or afternoon). This is a great opportunity for youth groups to come help!

We also need people who can work at the registration tables on Thursday, June 9 from 11:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. (and this can be broken into 2 shifts if needed).

Election volunteers are also needed on Thursday, June 9, beginning at 2:30 p.m., and during the day on Friday, June 10.

Audio-Visual support - volunteers are needed anytime during the 3 days of the IK Synod Assembly, beginning Thursday afternoon until Saturday morning. We will train you on operating a camera or other AV tasks. There are always other miscellaneous jobs needed on the assembly floor or in the office, and the times can vary depending on the schedule.

Finally, we would appreciate volunteers to help pack up, clean up and load the truck/van on Saturday afternoon, beginning around noon (after worship concludes). This is another great opportunity for youth groups to come help. Any interested persons should contact Heather Apel, [email protected] (317-253-3522).

PTSD AWARENESS

After a traumatic event, most people have painful memories. For many people, the effects of the event fade over time. But for others, the memories, thoughts and feelings don't go away - even months or years after the event is over. Mental health experts are not sure why some people develop PTSD and others do not. If stress reactions do not improve over time and they disrupt everyday life, it is important to seek help to determine if PTSD is present. The purpose of PTSD Awareness Month is to encourage everyone to raise public awareness of PTSD and effective treatments. We can all help those affected by PTSD. “Greater understanding and awareness of PTSD will help Veterans and others recognize symptoms, and seek and obtain needed care." - Dr. Paula P. Schnurr, Executive Director of the National Center for PTSD Source: http://www.ptsd.va.gov/about/ptsd-awareness/ptsd_awareness_month.asp

CLC Social Ministry and Mission June 2016

As you do it for the least of these, you do it for Christ. (Matthew 25:40) Each month the Social Ministry highlights a special giving opportunity. June’s specific emphasis is to provide support for the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana (FBNI) http://www.foodbanknwi.org . The Food Bank of Northwest Indiana’s mission is “to provide food for hungry people in Northwest Indiana through a network of charities…increasing public awareness and advocating solutions for the issues involved with hunger and acting as an information and referral source to the community.” FBNI is affiliated with and meets the guidelines of America’s Second Harvest, and they distribute over 2 million pounds of goods per year through 90 network charities throughout Lake and Porter counties. Our congregational goal for June is $2000. By achieving our goal CLC will help FBNI continue mutual support and service activities that are crucial to ministering in an urban setting. Use your weekly worship service envelope and indicate “FBNI” on the line marked Social Ministry with the amount you wish to give in addition to your regular giving. Thank you for your support of monthly social ministry emphasis needs this month and throughout 2016.

MONDAY, June 13, 2016

12:-00—6:00 p.m.

Activity center

What: 113 days to recognize the sacrifices of Indiana’s law

enforcement officers.

Why: To help save lives of patients in Indiana hospitals while

also showing respect and honoring our Indiana Fallen Officers. See

a list of all Indiana Fallen Officers on the bulletin boards by the

church office and fellowship hall.

When: The 2016 Indiana Fallen Officer Blood Drives runs from April 19 to August 9. The

program begins 56 days before Flag Day (June 14) and ends 56 days after Flag Day. This

timeframe allows dedicated individuals the opportunity to donate three times in honor of those

who sacrificed all while serving their communities.

How: Schedule an appointment at an Indiana Blood Center donor center (www.DonorPoint.org)

and dedicate your donation to the Indiana Fallen Office blood drive totals.

Little Lamb Preschool

Little Lamb Preschool (LLP), ministry of Christ Lutheran Church (CLC) for 28 years, has been

truly blessed! The Director, along with dedicated and talented staff and generous and supportive

CLC and LLP Board members, have had the privilege of providing a safe, loving, learning

environment for hundreds and hundreds of preschool children and their families. The attendance

of more than 500 persons at the End of Year/Graduation Program in May and full enrollment for

the fall of 2016 are evidence that wonderful things are happening in this place.

God continues to bless LLP as Jen Gottlieb becomes the new Director. Jen, husband Dave, and

daughters Ellen (20) and Emma (17) are members of CLC. Jen has taught at all three LLP levels

(Beginners, Pre-K, and Young 5s) over the past 14 years. She holds a BA in Elementary

Education with an endorsement in Early Childhood. Jen is deeply committed to serving children

and their families in the best possible ways. Jen demonstrates exceptional leadership, is highly

respected by staff, and has been a tremendous asset this past year as Assistant Director. Her

passion is apparent. With confidence that LLP will continue to grow in wonderful ways, we

welcome Director Jen Gottlieb!

“Little Lamb Preschool, in union with Christ Lutheran Church, serves God by shepherd-
