VETERAN’S DAY 2017
This weekend is Veteran’s Day weekend. Our nation will honor all those who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Vet-
eran’s Day was originally named “Armistice Day” by Pres. Woodrow Wilson in 1919. It was intend-ed to mark the ending of WW I when the armistice with Germany went into effect. The day was re-named Veteran’s Day in 1954 by Pres. Dwight D. Eisenhower. We pray for all veterans, living and deceased!
“O God, Great and Almighty Creator, we thank and praise you for the freedom we enjoy in our country and pray that our liberties will continue to be protected. Thank you for America’s heroes who have fought for our freedom and who have faithfully served our country. We honor all our veterans for their sacri-fices, for their courage, and for their integrity. As we celebrate these freedoms, we ask your blessing on those veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice while defending our country. We ask that you bless our disabled veterans. Bless also their families and comfort them with the thankful pray-ers of a grateful nation. We thank you for our veterans, past and present. Through the service of these individuals, help us to continue to promote justice in all nations.”
Amen!
HAVE A HAPPY & SAFE VETERAN’S DAY WEEKEND!

AN IMMIGRANT SAINT!
This week we have a saint on the church calendar who spent the greatest part of her life serving in America!
Monday, November 13th will be the memorial of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini. St. Frances came from Italy, where she was born on July 15, 1850. She came to American in 1889. That was not where she preferred to be, as she had wanted to be sent to China as a missionary. Obedient to her superiors, though, she served the immi-grant community in New York City, especially the Italian community.. Frances taught both secular and religious classes, and established schools and orphanages, plus a couple of hospitals..
In all, Frances established 67 institutions in the USA and in other countries. She was naturalized as a U.S. citizen in 1909 and is the first American to be canonized. She died on December 22, 1917 in a Chicago hospital, where she fell ill while making treats for young patients.
