Stewardship - A Way of Living From this Sunday’s Readings

“The disciples were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 13:52) The disciples heard Our Lord’s call and were able to spread the Gospel message with strength and vitality. We, too, can experi-ence that same joy if we make room for the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts. When we use our gifts in the way that God intends, He fills us with supernatural joy. A joy that others notice and are attracted to.

How much should I give? Faithful Catholics are expected to give to the Lord with a grateful heart. The amount is meant to be a sacrifice -- not what is convenient or easy. For example, for those who are working, a minimum amount is one hour’s household pay per week.

You can request envelopes by completing a “Supplemental Envelope” (available in the pews) or make regular or one-time contributions electronically through Faith Direct .

May God bless you for your generous response!

REMEMBER SS. FELICITAS & PERPETUA

IN YOUR PLANNED GIVING

Careful planning allows even greater benefits of our giving through income tax deductions, capital gains savings and other financial benefits. Please keep in mind that you can use IRA distributions to make your gifts, which can save you taxable income. Also, as a nonprofit, we can accept gifts of stock and securities. By having them transferred directly to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles for the benefit of our parish, you will not pay taxes on the gains, yet you will be able to claim a charitable deduction on the appreciated value.

Please see the Stewardship News item on our website: to learn more about contributing appreciated stock and

bonds to our parish with the assistance of the Archdio-cese of Los Angeles

to learn how to contribute Real Estate, Retirement Assets or a Life Insurance Policy

For more information call our Archdiocesan Representative, Brooke Glazer, at 213-637-7381 or [email protected]. Your faithful support of our parish is very much appreciated.

Fr. Paul

FAITHFUL GIVING God can never be outdone in generosity and faith-fulness! As Children of God, made in His image, we are called to reflect God’s generosity and faith-fulness. Our support of the parish is an essential way of doing so. There are many ways to give financial support to our parish: periodically, by using a Pink Restricted Envelope or a Yellow Supplemental Envelope lo-cated in the pews, or more regularly by requesting and using weekly envelopes (which can be request-ed by means of the Yellow Supplemental Enve-lope). We also offer electronic giving through Faith Direct which allows you to plan the timing and amount of your giving to the Church and also allows a conven-ient way to support our school and special collec-tions. With Faith Direct, there are no checks to write and you will receive email reminders and an online platform that makes faithful giving simple. Please visit our website (www.ssfp.org) and select the “Donate” button.

SAFEGUARD THE CHILDREN DID YOU KNOW? What risks are worth it for children? In today’s society, parents are often torn between pro-tecting their children, and letting them experience life and even make mistakes. Safety is vitally important, but there is value in learning from experience and from mistakes, too. There may be times when parents won-der if they have gone too far in their efforts to safe-guard children, perhaps inadvertently rendering them children less prepared to handle real-life situa-tions, For help in discerning when learning from expe-rience may be appropriate see the VIRTUS® article “Safety vs. Resilience in Childhood.” For more infor-mation, visit our news item from our Safeguard Com-mittee.

Mother's Day Novena May 12-20

We invite you to include your mother, grandmother, and other significant women in your life in our Novena of Masses.

Mothers Day cards are available in the vesti-bule of the church and at the side parking lot.

Blessing Prayer for Mother’s Day God of Love, listen to this prayer. God of Holy People, of Sarah, Ruth, and Rebekah; God of holy Elizabeth, mother of John, of Holy Mary, Mother of Jesus, bend down Your ear to this request and bless the mother of our family. Bless her with the strength of Your spirit, she who has taught her children how to stand and walk. Bless her with the melody of Your love, she who has shared how to speak, how to sing and how to pray to You. Bless her with a place at Your eternal dinner table, she who has fed and nurtured the life that was formed within her while still helpless but embraced in her love. Bless her today, now, in this lifetime, with good things, with health. Bless her with joy, love, laughter, and pride in her child/children and surround her with many good friends. May she who carried life in her womb be carried one day to Your divine embrace: there, for all eternity, to rejoice with her family and friends. This blessing and all grace, we pray, descend upon the mother of our family: in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

WEEKLY INTENTIONS May 11 - 19

Our Mother’s Day Novena will begin Sunday, May 12th and run through Monday, May 20th. We invite you to include your mother, grandmoth-er, and other significant women in your life in our Novena of Masses.

MOTHER BLEST Though she was the Mother of the Lord, yet she desired to learn the precepts of the Lord, and she who brought forth God, yet desired to know God. —St. Ambrose
