Is it possible for real people to be holy?
On its simplest level, being holy means living a life centered on God. This is
done by talking with him a lot, imitating his behavior, and respecting his
creations. It also means being part of the Church he established on Earth to
help us be holy. Try this: Talk to God. Spending time together is the best way
to get to know God better. Practice sharing. God wants us to take care of each
other. Look for ways to share your money, time, and talents with someone who needs them. Celebrate
the Sacraments. Make Sunday Mass the highlight of your week. Attend if you can do it safely, stream it
if you can’t. Just don’t miss it. Be a voice in the wilderness. When you notice an injustice, speak out and
take action. Treat all people with the dignity they deserve as children of God. Share your faith. Talk
about God with anyone who will listen. We can’t keep his love to ourselves. We have to pass it on.
¿Es posible que la gente normal sea santa?
En su nivel más simple, ser santo es vivir una vida centrada en Dios. Se consigue hablando mucho con
Él, imitando su comportamiento y respetando a sus criaturas. También signica ser parte de la Iglesia
que él estableció en la Tierra para ayudarnos a ser santos. Pongan esto a prueba: Hablen con Dios.
Pasar tiempo con Dios es la mejor forma de conocerlo mejor. Compartan. Dios quiere que nos
cuidemos los unos a los otros. Busquen formas de compartir su dinero, tiempo y talento con alguien
que lo necesite. Celebren los sacramentos. Que la misa dominical sea el momento culminante de su
semana. Vayan a misa si pueden hacerlo sin riesgos o véanla retransmitida si no. Pero no se la pierdan.
Sean una voz en el yermo. Cuando observen una injusticia, díganlo y pasen a la acción. Traten a todo el
mundo con la dignidad que merece por ser hijos de Dios. Compartan su fe. Hablen de Dios con
cualquiera que los escuche. No podemos guardarnos su amor para nosotros solos. Tenemos que
compartirlo.
¿Por qué no se dicen el Aleluya ni el Gloria durante la Cuaresma?
La omisión del Aleluya y el Gloria en las celebraciones litúrgicas de la Cuaresma es una manera simbólica de recordar, con Espíritu de
penitencia y recogimiento espiritual, que todavía no experimentamos el Reino en su plenitud; que
a la gloria le precede la cruz.
Why are Alleluia and Gloria not said during Lent?
The omission of the Alleluia and the Gloria in the liturgical celebrations of Lent is a symbolic
way of remembering, with the Spirit of penance and spiritual recollection, that we
have not yet experienced the Kingdom in its fullness; that glory is preceded by the cross.

What is Eucharistic Adoration?
Wouldn’t it be amazing to be face to face with Jesus? Imagine sitting with Him, talking together,
thanking Him for His gifts, asking for favors. In many churches throughout the world, Catholics are
able to do just that in Perpetual Adoration. Adoration is a Eucharistic devotion that offers the
opportunity to be in the presence of Jesus, under the appearance of the Eucharistic Host – the
Blessed Sacrament. Placed in a monstrance for display, all can see and pray in the presence of Our
Lord. Parishes with Perpetual Adoration chapels are able to host adoration twenty-four hours a day.
Other parishes offer periods of time adorers can worship in person. “Adoration is the first attitude
of man acknowledging that he is a creature before his Creator. It exalts the greatness of the Lord
who made us and the almighty power of the Savior who sets us free from evil” (CCC, 2628).
There are many ways to adore God, but in Adoration, we are truly in Jesus’ presence adoring him in
person.
¿Qué es la Adoración Eucarística?
¿No sería asombroso estar cara a cara con Jesús? Imagine sentarse junto a él, conversar,
agradecerle sus dones, pedirle favores. En muchas iglesias del mundo, los católicos pueden hacer
esto en la Adoración Perpetua. La Adoración es una devoción eucarística que ofrece la ocasión de
estar en la presencia de Jesús bajo la apariencia de la hostia eucarística, el Santísimo Sacramento.
Colocada en una custodia, todos podemos verla y rezar en presencia de Nuestro Señor. Las
parroquias y las capillas que disponen de Adoración Perpetua facilitan la adoración las veinticuatro
horas del día. En otras parroquias se ofrecen períodos de tiempo en los que los fieles pueden
adorar en persona. “La adoración es la primera actitud del hombre que se reconoce criatura ante su
Creador. Exalta la grandeza del Señor que nos ha hecho y la omnipotencia del Salvador que nos
libra del mal” (CIC, 2628).
Hay muchas formas de adorar a Dios, pero en la Adoración estamos verdaderamente en presencia
de Jesús, adorándolo cara a cara.

Our previous Sacred Heart of Jesus statue is located right outside the Connie Bowers Discipleship Center (CBDC). La estatua del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús que reemplazamos esta localizada afuera del Connie Bowers Discipleship Center (CBDC).
We updated the crucifix in August of 2019. It was part of the Hurricane Harvey Restoration. Reemplazamos el crucifijo en agosto de 2019. Fue parte de la Restauración del Huracán Harvey.
A statue of the Holy family is located on the outside entrance of the church. Una estatua de la Sagrada Familia esta ubicado afuera en la entrada de la iglesia.
The new Sacred Heart of Jesus statue was installed in the Spring of 2020, right before the start of the pandemic. The statue and materials were donated by the following people:

Located in the wings, we have the leaded glass windows with The Ten Commandments, The Divine Mercy, The Lamb of God and Mary with Jesus in the manger. We have four devotional statues which include: Our Lady of Guadalupe, St. Michael the Archangel, The Divine Mercy, and The Holy Infant of Atocha. Tenemos cuatro estatuas devocionales que incluyen: a Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, San Miguel Arcángel, La Divina Misericordia y El Santo Niño de Atocha.
These are just a few of the scenes of The Stations of the Cross located all around the upper wall of the church. They were originally from a church located in a Northeastern state of the U.S. We purchased them in 2019, and at the time they were about 80 years old. THE GIFT OF FORGIVENESS: A GUIDE TO THE SACRAMENT
When was the last time you went to confession? Has it
been a while? The Sacrament of Penance, also known as reconciliation or confession, may seem intimidating for many, but with some simple preparation, it can be a peaceful healing encounter with Christ and His Church. Take this guide with you to confession as a way of reflection and rediscover the sacrament of Penance. Reconciliation is a Sacrament instituted by Jesus Christ in His love and mercy to offer sinners forgiveness for offenses committed against God. At the same time, sinners reconcile with the Church because it is also wounded by our sins. Every time we sin, we hurt ourselves, other people and God. In Reconciliation, we acknowledge our sins before God and His Church. We express our sorrow in a meaningful way, receive the forgiveness of Christ and His Church, make reparation for what we have done, and resolve to do better in the future. THE FOUR PARTS OF CONFESSION CONTRITION: a sincere sorrow for having offended
God, and the most important act of the penitent. There can be no forgiveness of sin if we do not have sorrow and a firm resolve not to repeat our sin.
CONFESSION: confronting our sins in a profound way to God by speaking about them – aloud – to the priest.
PENANCE: an important part of our healing is the “penance” the priest imposes in reparation for our sins.
ABSOLUTION: the priest says the words by which “God, the Father of Mercies” reconciles a sinner to Himself through the merits of the cross.
A BRIEF EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE Adapted from Examination of Conscience based on the Ten Commandments
Take a moment to reflect on how sin has damaged your relationships. Have I treated people, events, or things as more
important than God? Have my words, actively or passively, put down
God, the Church or people? Do I “keep Holy the Sabbath”? Do I go to Mass
every Sunday (or Saturday Vigil) and on Holy Days of Obligation, as is possible? Do I avoid, when possible work that impedes worship to God, joy for the Lord’s Day, and proper relaxation of mind and body? Do I look for ways to spend time with family or in service on Sunday?
Do I show my parents due respect? Do I seek to maintain good communication with my parents where possible? Do I criticize them for lacking skills I think they should have?
Have I harmed another through physical, verbal, or emotional means, including gossip or manipulation of any kind?
Have I respected the physical and sexual dignity of others and of myself?
Have I taken or wasted time or resources that belonged to another?
How do I protect and care for God’s creation, including my family, the environment and those around me?
RITE OF RECONCILIATION STEPS If it has been a while, let the priest know and he
can help guide you through the steps for a good confession.
1. Priest gives a blessing or greeting. 2. Make the Sign of the Cross and say, “Bless me,
Father, for I have sinned. My last confession was [length of time] ago.”
3. Confess all of your sins to the priest. (If you are unsure or uneasy, tell him and ask for help.)
4. Say, “I am sorry for these and all of my sins.” 5. The priest gives a penance and offers advice to help
you be a better Catholic. 6. Say an Act of Contrition, expressing your sorry for
your sins. The priest, acting in the person of Christ, then absolves you from your sins.
AN ACT OF CONTRITION
God, I am heartily sorry for having offended you, and I detest all my sins because I dread the loss of heaven and the pains of hell; but most of all because they offend you, my God, who are all good and deserving of all of my love. I firmly resolve with the help of your grace to confess my sins, do penance and to amend my life. Amen.

EL REGALO DEL PERDÓN: UNA GUÍA PARA EL SACRAMENTO
¿Cuando fue la última vez que se confesó? ¿Ha pasado un tiempo? El Sacramento de la Penitencia, también conocido como reconciliación o confesión, puede parecer intimidante para muchos, pero con una simple preparación, puede ser un encuentro de sanación con Cristo y Su Iglesia. Lleve esta guía a la confesión como forma de reflexión. La reconciliación es un Sacramento instituido por Jesucristo en Su amor y misericordia para ofrecer a los pecadores el perdón por las ofensas cometidas contra Dios. Al mismo tiempo, los pecadores se reconcilian con la Iglesia porque también está herida por nuestros pecados. Cada vez que pecamos, nos lastimamos a nosotros mismos, a otras personas y a Dios. En la Reconciliación, reconocemos nuestros pecados ante Dios y Su Iglesia. Expresamos nuestro dolor de una manera significativa, recibimos el perdón de Cristo y Su Iglesia, reparamos lo que hemos hecho y decidimos hacerlo mejor en el futuro.

PASOS DEL RITO DE RECONCILIACIÓN • Si ha pasado un tiempo, avísele al sacerdote y él podrá guiarlo a través de los pasos para una buena confesión.
1. El sacerdote da una bendición o un saludo. 2. Haz la Señal de la Cruz y di: “Bendíceme, Padre,
porque he pecado. Mi última confesión fue hace [Dile cuando fue tu ultima confesión ] ".
3. Confiesa todos tus pecados al sacerdote. (Si no está seguro, dígaselo al sacerdote y pida ayuda).
4. Diga: "Lamento estos y todos mis pecados". 5. El sacerdote da una penitencia y ofrece consejos
para ayudarlo a ser un mejor católico. 6. Diga un acto de contrición, expresando su
arrepentimiento por sus pecados. El sacerdote, actuando en la persona de Cristo, te absuelve de tus pecados.
Acto de Contrición
Jesús, mi Señor y Redentor, yo me arrepiento de todos los pecados que he cometido hasta hoy, y me pesa de todo corazón, porque con ellos he ofendido a un Dios tan bueno. Propongo firmemente no volver a pecar y confío que por tu infinita misericordia me has de conceder el perdón de mis culpas y me has de llevar a la vida eterna. Amén.

St. Joseph the Just Man
The Church encourages us to be devoted to Joseph because he was a model in the heroic practice of all the virtues. The example of virtuous living that he gave in the exact fulfillment of the duties of his state of life is worthy of our reflection. Read the gospel and you will see his faith, hope and charity practiced under trying circumstances. He was prudent in caring for his wife and the child; he showed great leadership in protecting them and assisting them. He was religious in every sense, with that delicacy and sincerity of conscience that is proper to the saints of God. He was just in his dealings with God and man. He was conspicuous for his fortitude and courage. He was truly outstanding in the practice of virginal chastity. More: he protected and defended Mary's virtue in the time of courtship and all during their life together. They had made a promise of chastity, and because they were resolved to live it for God they were blessed above all others. We Need YOU!!
Our Social Ministry is in need of volunteer help. We have been distributing food through a COVID grant with the Houston Food Bank.
We distribute every Wednesday from 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 6pm. We are currently serving about 400 families per week and numbers are on a steady incline. We are distributing utilizing a drive thru system. We need car runners. There are other opportunities available to volunteer as well. If you are interested, please call Sandy at 281-431-0969, ext 501 and leave a message. Safe environment compliance including a background check are required before you can begin volunteering.

Youth Faith Formation / Grades 6-12 and Young Adults
Youth Faith Formation is still vibrant and alive amidst the ongoing pandemic! We are
gathering virtually for Youth Faith Formation at this time. Parents have the options to enroll
their children either in “Home Study” or “Virtual” sessions. The Home Study sessions are entirely led by the parent(s) and the Virtual sessions are led by a trained volunteer youth
minister. We plan to continue virtual learning through the rest of the 2020-2021 school
year. On-campus instruction is offered only for a few classes for Sacramental preparation. More
information on Youth Faith Formation Sessions can be found on our parish
website.

1. CDA Court #2073 Graduating High School Senior Scholarship Our local court is offering up to four (4) scholarships of a minimum of $500 each to 2021 Catholic graduating high school seniors. Three will be available to applicants who have a relative who is a current member in good standing of our local court #2073. One will be available to ANY Catholic graduating high school senior from St. John or Sacred Heart parish. Deadline: April 9, 2021 2. Gerry Davison Catholic School Scholarship Our local court is offering one (1) or more scholarship(s) of a minimum of $250 to students who plan to attend Pre-K through senior year in a Catholic school.
