MAKING SENSE OF THE MONTHS

September (Matthew 5:44) As we begin to dig into stories of persecution around the world, we realize that God tells us to pray for and love those who persecute us. How can we do that? Only by recognizing that we all have an inner rebel (monster), “For we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). BUT God in His mercy forgives us. We can only forgive because Christ in us shows us our own hearts, and then equips us with His grace.

January (One Image)Learning to pray for others who seem so different from us begins at the source: God (Genesis 1-2:2). He created us in His image. Each of us is unique but equally loved by the Creator and worth praying for.

February, April, June, August, October, December (Countries) Throughout the study of various countries, it’s important to identify false ideas vs. the truth of God’s Word. Pointing out that we each have a unique perspective based on where we live and our life experiences…. Our perspectives may vary, but God is the constant. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. In the one-point perspective drawings, such as our country drawings, there is one place on the page where ALL other components lead – and eventually disappear. That point is called the vanishing point. No matter where you start on the page, if you keep your vanishing point as a reference, your drawing will have a balanced perspective. The Lord is our “Vanishing Point.” Our eyes need to always be on Him regardless of where we live.

July (Eye Witnesses)The greatest communicators in the world are successful because of their ability to create vivid and memorable images in the minds of their audiences. Just as the eyewitnesses of Jesus’ day – Matthew, Peter, John, Paul and others – communicated what they witnessed Christ doing using words, we have tried to communicate what modern-day followers of Christ experience for their faith in today’s culture by using drawings. May the merged, one-body riot of emotions on this page, remind you that we are one body in Christ Jesus. If one suffers, we all do. If one rejoices, we all rejoice together.

November (God’s Big Picture)This lesson dealt with trusting God’s big picture plan, especially when everything pulls at us to do things our own way, and we don’t particularly like His direction or answers. We need an eternal perspective. One day, we will see the whole picture. That’s when all the pieces come together, and we will see clearly God’s care for us in all things.

March (Complacency)What touches the heart of God? We can become robotic in our response to the things that break God’s heart. If we ask Him, He will gladly keep us soft and caring. Notice how our little robots are walking through the prayer calendar, desiring to be empathetic towards others.

May (Prayer Works) God’s Word is trustworthy and true. Truth always wins out in the end, just as light always dispels darkness. He does not leave us without weapons and armour. We must realize that our battle is not against people but powers and principalities. We are called to walk boldly in His strength while battling these things in prayer. What does it mean to be a bold believer? A bold believer is one who demonstrates a fearlessness or daring spirit, holding steadfastly to their faith despite challenging circumstances or situations.

Page 27: SUNDAY M O NDAY TUESDAY WEDNESDAY THURSDAY …JORDAN Pray that churches in Jordan will minister to their Muslim neighbors as well as to refugees. 28 AFGHANISTAN Pray that persecuted

“Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. [Therefore] learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression;

bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause.” James 1:27; Isaiah 1:17

Persecution kills. For families who have suffered the tragic loss of a loved one because of their Christian faith and witness, that fact is all too real. Their lives have been forever changed by one cruel and violent act. However, hope is not diminished as these dear brothers and sisters know that the afflictions of the righteous do not tell the complete story. “Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning” (Psalm 30:5). They will see their loved one again. In the meantime, the challenges of providing for their families continue. This is not an easy task when the main provider has been killed. The Families of Martyrs Fund enables VOMC to provide encouragement and assistance to martyrs and their families who have been left destitute by the imprisonment, death or exile of a parent or spouse because of their Christian faith and witness. Those who are helped by this fund are primarily widows and orphans. This fund also helps elderly Christians (living martyrs) who have endured long years of persecution and, as a result, have no adequate means of support in their ‘retirement’ years.
