“LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS I HAVE LOVED YOU”

Fifth Sunday of Easter

April 24, 2016

How can we love one another as Christ has loved us? Jesus poured out his Holy Spirit on his disciples at Pentecost and he pours out his Spirit today on all who believe in him. This is the power that overcomes the world—the triumphant cross of Christ which breaks the destructive forces of sin, hatred, and division. And we share in the power of Christ’s victory by embracing the cross which the Lord Jesus sets before each one of us. What is the cross that I must take up daily in order to follow the Lord Jesus? When my will crosses with God’s will, then his will must be done. The cross of Christ sets us free to live no longer for ourselves but for Christ and his kingdom of peace, joy, and righteousness (moral goodness). Our calling and privilege is to serve as Christ has served and to love as he has loved. That is the way we share in the glory of our heavenly Father who gave us his beloved Son who laid down his life for each one of us. The distinctive mark of every disciple and follower of Jesus Christ is love—a love that is ready to forgive and forget past injuries, to heal and restore rather than inflict revenge and injury. The cross of Jesus is the only way to pardon, peace, forgiveness, and reconciliation. Every other way will fail or fall short of the glory and victory which Jesus Christ has won for us through his death and resurrection. If we embrace his love and truth and allow his Holy Spirit to purify and transform our hearts and minds, then we will find the inner freedom, joy, and strength we need to love without measure, to forgive without limit, and to serve without reward—save that of knowing we are serving the One who wants to be united with us in an unbreakable bond of peace and joy forever. VOCATION PRAYER CHALICE The Vocation Chalice will be at the home of Denise & Lex Allain. Please join them in praying for vocations. Call the Parish Center (834-0340) to sign up to have the chalice in your home for one week. SANCTUARY LAMP This week the sanctuary lamp will burn In memory of Donald O. Ward. FLOWERS ON THE ALTAR Flowers on the altar this week are In Honor of St. Francis Xavier’s Confirmation Candidates.

CONFIRMATION MONDAY, APRIL 25 Monday, April 25 Archbishop Aymond will be with us to confirm 45 young men and women from our parish who have been preparing to receive the sacrament in class at their Catholic high schools and/or in our religious education program. We congratulate those who will be confirmed and their families and pray that the Holy Spirit will guide and direct them in their adult life. Please join us in our prayers for them on this special occasion in their spiritual lives.

DREAM CAMPAIGN PROGRESS Pledges for the Completing the Dream campaign have been coming in very slow and we are still several hundred thousand dollars short of the halfway mark of $2.2 million. However, we are using the money we have received so far to pay down the debt (now at $1.2 million) and begin to repair and improve the buildings on the plant. The old rectory is presently being worked on and should be completed in the next week or two. The funds for the Memorial to the Unborn are not coming out of the campaign. If you have not yet pledged to the campaign, please contact the Parish Center and speak to Paul Laiche or me at 834-0340.

HELP NEEDED TO CLEAN THE CHURCH Every Thursday morning after the 8:00 A.M. Mass some ladies in the parish take time to help out in keeping the church clean. Right now we are down to two or three volunteers and it takes about two to three hours. We are in desperate need for some more volunteers to help. Even if you can give one Thursday a month, it would help greatly. If you would like to give one Thursday a month or more to help please call 834-0340.
