Submission Deadline

Sunday Announcements are due by Monday at noon. Announcements received after that time may appear the following week.

Please send emails to [email protected].

Dear Parents of Young Children:

At All Saints’, we believe that Jesus issues the same invitation to everyone: “Come to me, just exactly as you are.” For our children, this means, “Come with all the energy, the wiggles and giggles, that God gave you.” This is God’s House, and life and love and laughter are all part of God’s dream for the world. Your presence here is a blessing. Your children’s presence is a blessing. And all of their wiggles and giggles (including any tears and protests) are welcome in God’s House.

Here are a few suggestions many parents have found helpful:

• Please sit towards the front—it’s easier to see and hear all the action. • Sing, pray, respond, and explain what’s happening in the service. Children learn best about

worship and liturgy from you. • Pick up a green “Busy Bag” with books, coloring pages, and a stuffed Worship Buddy.

Please return them after the service. • We have a staffed nursery in the Education Wing and a livestream in the Parlor. If you need

to leave, please come back, especially for Communion.

To All the Members of our Parish:

Children are one of God’s most precious blessings. Thank you for warmly welcoming them into God’s House and for encouraging their families with your smiles and assistance.

Sundays at 10 AM: March 10th—April 7th, 2019

A Crucified Christ in Holy Week: Reflections on the Passion Narratives

Join us as we Delve into the Gospels to prepare our hearts, minds and souls for Easter

All Saints’ Parish Hall Each year during the last week of Lent, one of the passion narratives from Matthew, Mark, and Luke is read on Palm/Passion Sunday, and the passion narrative from John is always read on Good Friday. Why do we do this? What do these narratives say to us about who Jesus was and what God was doing? What do they say to us about who Jesus is and what God is doing now?

The Adult Forum during Lent will feature Bishop William Gregg leading us through the Passion Narratives of the Gospels based on the essays of Raymond E. Brown, S.S., in his book, A Crucified Christ in Holy Week. Fr. Brown was a New Testament scholar and a major figure in New Testament studies during and after Vatican II. His work has shaped much of NT studies in the second half of the twentieth century and how we engage and understand the central text of the faith, the Bible. Bring your questions and insights with an open mind, heart, and soul as we seek to hear what these fundamental scriptures are saying to us.

Thursdays at 7PM at All Saints’ Episcopal Church March 14th & 21st

Building Bridges out of Poverty

Building Bridges out of Poverty (BBOP) offers insights into how to assist low-income people to facilitate responsible, self-directed decision-making, planning and ultimately self-sufficiency. Participants will be introduced to the “hidden rules” that govern life for the poor (for example, support systems middle class & wealthy people take for granted are largely non-existent for people living in poverty.) BBOP provides a deeper understanding of both the challenges and the strengths those living in poverty already possess to invite healthy

partnerships and create opportunities for success.

These events are in partnership with Grace Lutheran Church.

Even those who are concerned about racial disparities in all American systems and institutions are challenged in their understanding of how racism remains alive and well, advantaging some while harming others. These two-day training events develop the capacity of participants to understand racism in its institutional and structural forms.

Moving from individual bigotry and bias, the workshop presents an historical, cultural, structural and institutional analysis of racism, builds the capacity of participants to identify the root causes of disparity and helps establish goals and strategies based on that deeper understanding.

Green Tips from The Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina

When shopping, make all of your purchases intentional. Keep a running list going at home; it'll help you plan your shopping so you'll need fewer trips to the store, and you will be able to resist impulse purchases while you're there. Purchasing only what's really needed produces benefits on several fronts - you'll consume less, create less waste, reduce auto emissions AND save money!

Congratulations & Welcome to our parishioners who are were confirmed in the Episcopal tradition Sunday, February 24th at St. Luke’s, Salisbury: Mark Helms, Kevin Morgan, Sarah Morrison and David Scercy. Those who reaffirmed their Baptismal Vows were Ruth-Hanna Strong and David Millar.

Thank you to all the presenters and participants in this year’s After Dark @ All Saints’. A lot of food was prepared and eaten, and a lot of laughter and knowledge was shared. Alice Smith, Debby Smith, and Karen Robinson have done an awesome job of planning and executing this year’s classes. They are now working on finishing the financial aspects of this year and reviewing lessons learned. If you have a skill or talent that you would like to share at After Dark @ All Saints’ 2020, or if there is a topic you would like to see offered, please contact them as they begin planning.

Alice Smith at [email protected] or Debby Smith at [email protected] or Karen Robinson at [email protected].

We offer condolences and prayers to the family and friends of Gordon Drye, stepfather of Mark Helms, who has entered into the Resurrection.

The Grapes for Good team expresses their appreciation to all who supported another successful wine tasting and silent auction event! They couldn’t have done it without the many hands who donated silent auction items and door prizes and everyone who volunteered and attended. The earnings from the event are approximately $14,000! VESTRY & STAFF

Vestry Person of the Month for March 2019: Fran Burkett I have been an Episcopalian since 1985. I started looking at Episcopal churches in the area in January of 2015. I first came to All Saints' in May of 2015 after having looked at websites of other Episcopal churches in the area. I loved All Saints' from the first time I looked at the website. I was very impressed with all the ministries and activities available. I have always been welcomed with open arms and love from the time I first walked in the door. My love for All Saints' deepened when Father Jeff Batkin told me he knew Reverend Nancy and how everyone in the church embraced and supported her while she was on medical leave. I participate in several ministries at All Saints' that include our youth ministry, and Education for Ministry.

I came to Concord because my son, daughter-in-law and three grandchildren live here. My son was fortunate to receive a scholarship to Christ School and started school there in eighth grade and graduated in 2001.

Having served on other vestries over the years, I want to serve on this vestry because I believe I can always be a presence at All Saints’ and help in various situations.
