Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea)

Green Tea polyphenols may inhibit digestive lipases, resulting in decreased lipolysis (fat breakdown) and therefore reduced fat digestion in humans. Green tea has also been shown to enhance energy levels, have a thermogenic effect and act as an effec-tive appetite suppressant. A recent meta-analysis of all human green tea weight loss studies found that green tea containing caffeine works best, and pro-duces a statistically significant reduction in body weight, body mass index, and waistline circumference. There are three main varieties of tea: green, black, and oolong. The difference is in how the teas are processed. Green tea is made from unfermented leaves and reportedly contains the highest concentration of powerful antioxidants called polyphenols. Antioxidants are substances that fight free radicals. Free radicals are damaging compounds in the body that change cells, dam-age DNA, and even cause cell death. Many scientists believe that free radicals contribute to the aging process as well as the development of a number of health problems, including cancer and heart disease. Antioxidants such as polyphenols in green tea can neutralise free radicals and may reduce or even help prevent some of the damage they cause. Garcinia Cambogia extract (HCA) Garcinia Cambogia contains a key weight loss ingredient is called HCA (Hydroxy Cit-ric Acid) which acts as a “Dual Action Fat Blaster”. HCA is a natural appetite suppres-sant and prevents carbohydrates converting to fat. Studies have shown that HCA can suppress fat production by 40-80% for 8-12 hours after eating. One of the most recent studies published in the Journal of Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism demonstrated that in the right concentration, HCA causes significant weight loss, lowers food intake and body weight gain as well as tackling factors such as cholesterol, low-density lipoproteins, triglycerides and serum leptin levels. HCA blocks fat by inhibiting a key enzyme (Citrate Lyase) that your body uses to turn glucose into fat. HCA stops the fat-making process and the production of LDL (bad cholesterol) and triglycerides. The natural HCA in Garcinia Cambogia also re-duces cravings and decreases the urge to consume calories.

It’s important to note that Sun Slim sachets contain Garcinia Cambogia with 60% HCA. This is the same concentration which

was used in the scientific studies mentioned above.

Capsicum Annuum (Cayenne Powder)

Studies have shown that compounds in cayenne powder have the ability to increase the body’s heat production

(thermogenesis), thus increasing the rate of fat and carbohydrate breakdown which may also help with fat loss.

Cayenne powder has also been shown to increase epinephrine and norepinephrine production which may help to suppress

appetite and therefore reduce the body’s craving for extra snacks and calories.

Cayenne powder has also been shown to increase epinephrine and norepinephrine production which may help to sup-

press appetite and therefore reduce the body’s craving for extra snacks and calories.

L-Carnitine

Increased L-Carnitine levels may result in increased transportation of long chain fats to be broken down to release energy

in the body’s cells. Studies have revealed the effectiveness of L-Carnitine in relevance to exercise performance, cardio-

vascular and brain health and also weight management. It is commonly used by athletes to increase energy.

Coleus Forskohlii

Studies have shown that Coleus Forskohlii could be beneficial in the management of obesity by reducing body weight,

food intake, and fat accumulation. Traditionally, in naturopathic medicine it has been used for its liver detox capabilities,

cholesterol management and weight loss.

Green Coffee Beans (Chlorogenic Acid)

Chlorogenic Acid is a natural compound found in the raw green coffee beans. When the coffee beans are roasted, the chlorogenic acid is mostly destroyed, so any weight loss benefit from drinking regular coffee would be mostly non-existent. This is why the raw, green beans are used in Sun Slim.

Chlrorgenic acid inhibits the release of glucose into the blood stream. The hypothesis that by slowing the absorption of

glucose into the blood stream by chlorogenic acid will ultimately result in the reduction of the absorption of fat.

Base of Pea Protein (24g protein)

Protein naturally lowers the glycemic index of any food or product which enables people to feel fuller for longer and pre-

vent overeating of discretional food items or snacks. Sun Slim Sachet provides ~25% of an average persons protein in-

take helping them to fill up and reduce cravings for snacks during the day. Thus Sun Slim sachets may aid in reducing

overall calorie intake across the day.

Momordica Charantia (Bitter Melon)

Momordica Charantia, also known as bitter melon is a member of the Curcurbitaceae family. Momordica has been shown to decrease hepatic glucose output, increase peripheral glucose uptake and utilisation, decrease intestinal glucose absorption, increase insulin sensitivity and reduce both fasting and postprandial serum glucose levels. Overall this indicates its ability to improve glucose metabolism and prevent excess glucose from being converted into fat storage within the body. Momordica contains phytochemicals; polypeptide-P (similar to insulin-like polypeptide), Charantin, Momordin Ic, oleanolic acid 3-O-monodesmoside, and oleanolic acid 3-O-glucuronide which have been shown to lower plasma glucose levels. Scientific studies show that the mechanism of action of Momordica charantia increases glucose uptake in the liver rather than increasing insulin secretion, therefore this may contribute to a reduced storage of glucose as fat. Few side effects have been noted and those that were noted were described as mild. Syzygium Cumini (L.) skeels/ Eugenia Jambolana Lam Madeglucyl™ used in Fat BlockerTM is a patented botanical derivative from the seeds of Syzygium cumini (L.) skeels, an edible plant, also called Eugenia jambolana lam. Madeglucyl™ alongside Syzygium cumini has been thoroughly studied and is found to be devoid of side effects. Its efficacy has been proven in studies from USA, Germany and Madagascar. Madeglucyl™ has the ability to maintain blood sugar levels within recommend-ed ranges in a variety of conditions and its effect becomes apparent immediately after the first dose. Syzygium Cumini has been validated in many studies for its anti-diabetic effects and has been used prior to hypoglycaemic medication availability to manage the symptoms of diabetes.

Trigonella Foenum Graecum (Fenugreek)

Trigonella foenum graecum, also known as Fenugreek has been used traditionally for its hypoglycemic effects. Several studies have shown its efficacy. Scientific results indicate significant reduction in blood glucose levels. A study by Sharma Et Al found that giving type II diabetic patients fenugreek seed powder over 24 weeks produced significant reductions to fasting blood glucose. It also improved glucose tolerance and levels of glycosylated haemoglobin (HbA1c) were significantly reduced. Fenugreek is thought to have insulin like activity in reducing plasma glucose levels by activating hepatic enzymes such as glu-cokinase and hexokinase and stimulating the insulin signalling pathway. Thus stimulating carbohydrate metabolism and preventing the conversion of excess carbohydrates to fats.

Gymnema Sylvestre

Gymnema sylvestre, also known as Gurmar, is a member of the Aclepiadaceae family and is used widely throughout South

East Asia for its ability to increase glucose uptake and utilization, improve function of pancreatic beta cells and avoid the con-

version of sugar to fat. The leaf, when chewed, is traditionally used to reduce the ability of taste buds to taste sweetness.

A study conducted in Madras, India administered Gymnema sylvestre to diabetic patients for 18-20 months as a

supplement to their pharmaceutical medications. During the trial, patients showed a significant reduction in blood glucose,

glycosylated haemoglobin (HbA1c) and glycosylated plasma proteins. The patients’ pharmaceutical medication dosages could

then be reduced and 22% of patients were able to discontinue their pharmaceutical drugs and maintain their blood glucose

homeostasis with Gymnema sylvestre alone.

Gymnema Sylvestre is thought to suppress the elevation of blood glucose levels by inhibiting in-

testinal glucose uptake. Therefore it may inhibit the conversion of glucose to fat via this mecha-

nism also.

In one study, 22 type 2 diabetes patients were given gymnema extract along with

anti-hyperglycemic drugs. All patients demonstrated improved blood glucose control.

21 of these patients were able to reduce their drug dosage considerably and 5 patients were able

to discontinue their conventional medication and blood sugar control with the gymnema extract alone.

Pterocarpus Marsupium (Vijayasar)

Vijayasar is a traditional Indian herb obtained from the bark of a tree. It is a natural supplement believed to have some unique

features including beta cell protection, actions to reduce blood glucose and regenerative properties. Vijayasar contains many

active components which have been vigorously studied for their hypoglycemic effects. This includes Epicatechin, a flavanoid,

which is found in the bark and has shown hypoglycemic activity against diabetes. Vijayasar may also prevent the conversion of

glucose to fat by improving glucose uptake and metabolic processes.

Sun Slim PAKTM

CardiOzTM

contains:

Alpha Lipoic Acid

One of the most sought after modern day antioxidants. Alpha-lipoic acid plus vitamin E may be helpful in combating some of the health complications associated with diabetes, including heart disease, vision problems, nerve damage and kidney disease.

Ascorbic Acid

Similar to vitamin E, vitamin C or ascorbic acid is considered to enhance the removal of intracellular oxidative damage that may be associated with exercise. By alleviating oxidative muscle damage, supplementation enables for improved recovery and energy stores post exercise.

Beta carotene

Athletes commonly have low beta-carotene antioxidant levels due to the increased oxidative stress of physical activity and exer-cise. It is therefore important to ensure that levels are optimal and supplementation is merely one method of doing so. Research has revealed that supplementation with a multivitamin containing vitamin E, C and beta carotene improved aerobic performance in amateur athletes.

Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 is essential for the normal function of all our cells and plays a critical role in energy metabolism. Vitamin B12 is essential for red blood cell production and is also required for folic acid metabolism.

Linseed oil (omegas 3,6 & 9)

Omega 3, 6 and 9 essential fatty acids are in every cell membrane of the body. They help to support cardiovascular health by reducing LDL cholesterol levels and increasing HDL cholesterol levels to promote fatty plaque oxidation and return of LDL cho-lesterol to the liver.

Nicotinic Acid

Niacin, also known as vitamin B3 or nicotinic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin essential for a healthy brain, nervous system, hor-mone production, healthy skin, blood cells and digestive system.

Selenium

A lack of selenium has been associated with low muscular strength especially in the older population. It is therefore important for the active individual to meet recommended selenium intakes in order to support muscular strength. In fact selenium require-ments for athletes increase with the amount of energy expenditure. The more exercise one participates in, the greater their in-take requirement is for selenium.

CoQ10

CoQ10 supplementation has shown considerable increases in exercise capacity in a healthy population, meaning an individual may be able to do more exercise at a given level of when supplemented with Co Q10. Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is intimately involved in energy production and may be a potent scavenger of oxidative damage. Supplementation with a mixture including coQ10 has been shown to reduce oxidative stress/damage during and after a soccer match; therefore CardiOzTM is also ap-propriate for team sports as well as individual exercise regimes.

Taurine

Taurine plays a role in maintaining healthy cardiovascular function.

Milk Thistle

CardiOzTM contains 150mg of Milk thistle which is used to improve digestion and general liver function. It is therefore an ideal supplement for those with a fatty liver.

Page 9: Sun Slim PAKTM focus - d347awuzx0kdse.cloudfront.net · Lose Weight Improve Health and Vitality Look Great This Pak contains three items. Introduction Excess weight and obesity are

Grapeseed

Grapeseed extract has been shown to prevent oxidative damage throughout the body including muscle damage associated with exercise and therefore may aid in recovery. Supplementation with grapeseed extract may also promote healthy circula-tion. Equisetum arvense (Horse Tail)

Equisetum Arvense has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties and some studies have shown it can also play a role in weight loss. Containing natural silica, it is useful for musculoskeletal and vessel repair.

Vitamin E

Natural vitamin E supplementation is vital for active individuals. It has been shown to enhance the removal of oxidative muscle damage associated with exercise and may in-crease immunity. It is important to consume nutrients to support healthy immune function in order to prevent the onset of illness or infections at all times.

Magnesium

Magnesium is essential for many cellular functions. It is involved in energy production and the normal functioning of muscle and nerve tissue. Signs of low magnesium levels include fatigue, mental confusion, irritability, muscle cramps, poor nerve conduction, muscle contraction problems and a predisposition to stress. If the blood is low in magnesium it takes it from the muscles. Without enough magnesium in the muscles they contract and may result in painful cramps, irritability, twitching or even tremors. Having a sufficient amount of magnesium in the body helps the muscles to function optimally.

Zinc

Low dietary zinc may impair cardio-respiratory functions during exercise. It is therefore important that zinc intake is maintained at

optimal levels to enable peak exercise performance

Manganese

Manganese is essential for strong bone structure and acts as a cofactor to assist metabolic activity (the breakdown of food) including

the metabolism of fats and carbohydrates. Manganese also helps to regulate blood glucose levels and therefore may assist in weight

management.

Thiamine (Vitamin B1), Riboflavin (Vitamin B3), Pyridoxine (Vitamin B6) and Calcium Pantonthenate (Vitamin B5)

Essential in metabolism and cardiovascular function, these B vitamins ensure efficient breakdown of food. These B vitamins are very important for energy production, mental clarity and management of stress.

Folic Acid

Folate, also called folic acid, plays a role in DNA and RNA synthesis and is critical in cellular division. An adequate level of folic acid is needed in order for the cells to properly divide, as well as adequate energy and metabolism.
