From the Principal’s Desk:
Wow! The school year is coming to an end very quickly, the weather has been beautiful and outdoor activities are happening more and more. The month of June is usually an extra busy month at school as we are finishing up curriculum, testing concepts and have many field trips going out. With all of this happening, we ask parents to help us in a few areas: dress code, field trips and exams.
With the warmer weather upon us, dressing appropriately for school becomes more of a challenge for some. As school is a workplace for our students, we ask parents to assist your children in dressing in a professional manner. This would include but is not limited to, not wearing spaghetti straps, shirts showing midriffs, short shorts/ skirts and clothing with drug or alcohol logos on them. As we are a K-12 school, we ask that the dress code be adhered to by all our students.
Field trips are a great way to both learn and celebrate our learning in a different environment. With that said, we do require extra adult supervision outside the school premises and as per Chinook’s Edge School Division requirements, for the safety of all our students, all chaperones must have a criminal record check on file at the school that is no more than three years old. A police record check does not cost you anything but time if you come and get a volunteer paper from the school to take to the Didsbury Police Detachment. Once you have your record check back from the police, we will keep it on file here at the school and only ask you to renew that process after three years. We need and love having parents, etc. in our school and on our trips with us, but we do have to adhere to protocol for all students’ safety.
Exam season is approaching, not only for high school but for all grades in some form or another. As a parent, everything you can do to help your child focus on the process of preparing for exams will help. With the combination of teachers, students and families taking the time to review and prepare for the end of year culminating tests and activities, we will keep with our trend of academic success at all levels.
Providing your child with the continued structures of routine at home, homework time, good exercise, fun, healthy food and sleep go a long way to them being successful at school. Having healthy, rested students allows them to concentrate, think and learn better. Working as a team for the success of our students is beneficial for all stakeholders.
It is all of our jobs to assist our children to be as prepared as possible for their life post High School. Test taking skills and the skills used in preparing for those tests, focused work and work preparation, are essential skills. We thank you for working with us and your children in building these skills for their futures.
Then at the culmination of our very busy June, we congratulate all of our grade twelve students on their completion of High School and their graduation. We wish them the best in whatever they choose to do and wherever they choose to go. We send them off with the knowledge they have gained, the friends they have gathered and the love of their families.
Have a great June and an amazing summer break.

News from the Athletics Desk
We are basically finished up our Athletics for the season. We had a very successful year in track with a special congratulations going out to George DiPaola for his birth into provincial hurdles. Best of luck in Edmonton, George. Stay posted for information regarding athletic awards night.
Reflections on a year of meaningful learning
A Message from the Superintendent
With the end of this school year approaching, we can look back with pride on a highly successful year of growth and accomplishment in Chinook’s Edge!
The goal we share, in every grade and in every classroom, is to see each of our students graduating from our schools happy and passionate about a dream that is attainable for them. The work underway in schools across our division is focused on the elements we believe are key to achieving success for students as they progress through the grades, and Chinook’s Edge has defined clear strategies to create upward momentum that prepares students for success throughout their lives.
Thank you to our students, our teachers, and our entire Chinook’s Edge staff for your hard work throughout the year. Our students have earned praise and appreciation from many groups for their efforts, as they take leading roles in artistic, academic, athletic, humanitarian and environmental projects. We continue to see positive improvements on both locally and provincially administered assessments of student learning. Chinook’s Edge students are surrounded by people who care about them and about their success.
Along with our trustees, parents, families and community partners, we have shared an outstanding year together. Thank you for challenging, encouraging and believing in each of our students, and in one another. Enjoy your summer!

GRADE 11 PARENTS: I have finished my interviews with these students and gave them information about scholar-
ships, volunteerism, post-secondary applications, Trade sites, and the importance of their final grade 11 marks for next year.
Some universities are NOW looking at final grade 11 marks for conditional acceptances. Please ask for the handouts or contact
me if you would like the information online. I HIGHLY ENCOURAGE THEM TO GET ON OUR myblueprint.ca career site or ALIS THIS
SUMMER! It has everything from post-secondary schools to possible careers to resume writing. I cannot stress enough that
scholarship hunting involves parents!!! The “ALIS” site is excellent as well.
GRADE 12 PARENTS: Please remember that Rutherford applications must be completed online in July for scholarship
money. This is money given ONLY to those who are accepted at a college or university (Trade course as well). They only apply
once they are accepted. IF they take a year or three off, they apply at that point.
The French 10/20/30 class enjoyed an excellent meal and cultural experience at the Moroccan Tent Restaurant in May! The own-
ers, Alex and Nabil created an amazing 3 course dinner in a “Sultan Tent” atmosphere and included some cultural information
about their homeland. As usual our students were great…they tried the different foods, were appreciative of the outing and so
respectful of our hosts!
Band Society News: It's time for the year-end concert! Please join us in hearing the bands perform on Wednesday, June 7th at 7:00 pm in the Gym. Please cheer the students on at the Canada Day Celebration in Cremona. We hope to have the students playing on the 1st in the Parade! Please join us at the September meeting where we look forward to welcoming the new Band Director, Mr. Alex Hutcheon. Mr. Hutcheon will be taking on the 1-12 music programming at the school next year. Mr. Hutcheon was part of the Didsbury High School Band program for four years and went on to take a music degree at the University of Lethbridge. He has run band and music programs from grades 1 - 12 and we welcome his expertise. The Cremona School Band Society would like to thank Mrs. Harvey for all her efforts with the Band Program this year. From the various trips, camps and festivals the students certainly had a busy year! Thanks also to the parents and the community for your continued support with fundraising. The September meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 7:30 pm in the Library. Hope to see you then! Have a great summer!
School Council Update The School Council met on May 9th to gain an overview of school activities and needs. As Council had amassed a minor fortune primarily through pizza sales organized by Shera Scott over the school year we had the task of dispensing money. We were able to contribute varying levels of financial support to help renew the Accelerated Reading program for next year, the Leadership invited SADD presentation, Get Real, grad corsages, and the possibility of a major Council party - the latter being defeated. We have retained enough financial capability to support some significant presenters next school year. Organizational support was identified for Spring Sweep. Andrea Reid updated results from our on-going Healthy School Assessment and our anticipated school parent's nutritional survey to be sent out. The Annual General Meeting saw a hard fought battle amongst contenders with Gerard Kulscar agreeing to lead the forces again. It was agreed that we would skip June's meeting due to competition from evening sports and the relentless press of personal jobs and play. School Council will continue the tradition of taking the lead with the Welcome Back Breakfast which, sadly to think, is on August 31st. We have been pleased to see more parents, teachers and occasionally students participate in this year's meetings. We look forward to more new faces next year wanting to learn about and shape the direction of school activities and policies. With your involvement we can make a difference in our kid's education. Our next meeting is September 12. Feel free to contact Michael Kerfoot at [email protected] with questions and suggestions. Enjoy the "endless summer" which will end all too soon.
Alien Inline Skating is Coming to Cremona! Alien Inline skating will run from June 12th to the 16th for all grades. See the full schedule of each grade on the school website calendar. A Free Family Skate will be held Thursday June 15th from 5:00-7:00 pm. The Alien Inline skate company will have the skates, elbow and knee pads but recommend that students and families bring their own helmets. They do have some if you don't have your own. Helmet types can be: bike, ice skating, skiing, etc. Please remind students to bring socks. We are looking for parents to help students in Kindergarten to Grade 2 to get skates, pads and helmets on. Parents are also welcome to come watch during the week. Hope to see you at the Family Skate night! Prep video: www.alieninline.com

We are excited to welcome our new band teacher, Alex Hutcheon! He will be
starting with us in September. Welcome to Cremona School!
Hello, my name is Alex Hutcheon and I am extremely elated to announce that I will be the new Band/ Music Teacher at Cremona School! Over the past couple of years I have taught Music, Band and Physical Education in both Strathmore and DeWinton, but I am very excited to be coming back to what I consider my home, Mountain View County. After Graduating High School in Didsbury, I attended the University of Lethbridge, where I obtained a Degree in Music as well as a Degree in Education. Fun fact, my major instrument during High School and University was the Tuba. When I’m not conducting Bands or playing the Tuba, you can find me on the golf course, at the hockey rink or playing Frisbee with my Goldendoodle named Bocephus. I am looking forward to getting to know everyone and I thank you all for welcoming me into the Cremona School family.
Bouquets and Celebrations
Thanks so much to Robbin Alexander for feeding breakfast to the middle and high school this year, day after
day. Also thank you to Shannon Lashmore, Jody McKinnon, Kara Krebs, and Trish Murphy for helping as well
by filling in and lending a hand.
Thanks so much to Tony Budhwani of “Papa Luigi’s Restaurant” in Water Valley for organizing the scholarship
presentation by Ameer Keshavjee to our grade 11 and 12s. Mr. Keshavjee shared his knowledge of the post-
secondary world with the very polite and respectful grade 11s and 12s. We so appreciate him volunteering his
time!
Thanks to the Water Valley Nursery for lending us some beautiful arrangements to spruce up our family
dance! Even though their children have moved on from our little school, the Pereversoff family continues to make an impact in our learning community!
If you see Mr. Youngs around the school, please give him a pat on the back for all the hard work he has put
into developing our track athletes! The hours he has devoted to develop this program is commendable.
Miss Alexander did an excellent job coordinating both the Get Real Day and the SADD presentations. We are
extremely lucky to have such a committed Wellness Worker who cares so much about our students! These presentations are instrumental in developing compassionate and well-adjusted citizens.
Thank you to Mrs. Murphy for the countless hours organizing the meat orders and keeping our school
Facebook page updated!
Your guide will introduce you to the amazing world
of caves, spending approximately 2 hours
underground crawling past prehistoric bones,
investigating our ancient cave formations and even
squeezing into places like the warm-up and chal-
lenge squeezes (if you so choose of course!).
