President Penny Betcher
We had a good April Meeting; learned how to be a Jedi Wagon Master from Yoda Schwab, heard fun stories from Sam Pacione and Mike Holloway about the Rocky Point and Verde Valley Rallies,
and then topped it off with cheesecake and games. OK, one game table, but it was a game, right?
I hope we are all ready for the 100 degree days to come. It seems like they are coming earlier each year. Looks like the end of April we’ll slide right into summer. I hope everyone has fun trips planned this summer and we all come back with great stories from afar. Heck, even if you are just going to Prescott to escape the heat, keep in
touch. Going on the road and having a good time is what it’s all about. I’d like to thank all those Board and Committee members who worked hard this season to make our trips and our club successful. If I don’t see you on the Grand Canyon rally in May, safe travels this summer. See you in October at the Welcome Back Rally in Leaf Verde RV Park in Buckeye.

Day Events
Hello everyone,
Well, it is time to say good bye for the summer. But before we say that last good-bye, we still have one more Day Event scheduled. It is the tour and
luncheon at the Wrigley Manson. Right now we have about 13 people scheduled to go on this
May 2017 Grand RVers Page 4
tour. We still have room for more. The date is Wednesday, May 3rd. If you would like to come, please go to the Day Event tab on our RV Club web site and add your name to the list. I will get notification and contact you with all of the information for the trip.
Other than that, I hope everyone has a wonderful summer! Dan and I will be spending it traveling to Alaska and back. It is a trip that I have wanted to take for years. So, to all of you I say, "Warm up those RV engines, put on Willy Nelson's "On the Road Again" and take off for your summer holiday! Hope you all have a great time".

We are in need of Wagon Masters for the Club rallies. We have 5 rallies listed on
our website with 39 couples signed up… but no Wagon Masters. These rallies are not going to happen unless we get Wagon Master volunteers. At the April RV Club
meeting, Mike Schwab gave a Power Point presentation on being a rally Wagon Master. If you were not at the meeting or want to view the Power Point again, the
slides can be viewed from the website. Click on the red "Forms" button. Then
click on the PDF link next to the Wagon Master 101 item listed under Wagon Master Forms. Also, in the same location on the "Forms" web page is another PDF
document that is a detailed narrative of Wagon Master Duties. This document is not new to the web site.
The Club had two rallies during April:
Sam and Sandy Pacione led 8 other rigs down to Rocky Point, Mexico from April
3rd - 8th. It was a good thing they caravanned because Sam and Sandy had trouble with a tire. Everyone stopped, pitched in to help and soon they were all back on
their way. Sam and Sandy have been to the Bonita RV Park many times over the past 50 years and had many suggestions for things to do. The tequila factory, fish
market, La Curva and Playa Bonita restaurants were several of the places visited. Gathering around the fire pit at night was a great ending for each day. Thanks to
Sam and Sandy!
May 2017 Grand RVers Page 5
The other rally, to Verde Valley, was from April 10th - 14th with Mike and Marty
Holloway picking up the reins as Wagon Masters. Distant Drums RV Park is less than a 2 hour drive up I-17 and 11 rigs made the trip. Organized events included
a trip on the Verde Canyon Railroad, and the Blazin’ M Ranch for dinner and a great western show. Jerome, Old Town Cottonwood, Sedona and Cliff Castle Casi-
no were explored by many on their own. The Wagon Masters sponsored two nights of grilled hamburgers and pulled pork. Each night participants gathered to recap
the day's activities and offer suggestions for the next day. Thank you, Mike and Marty!

BARLEENS ARIZONA OPRY
Superstition RV Park
Apache Junction
February 7th - 10th, 2018
WAGON MASTER NEEDED The Barleens Rally has become an annual favorite. The talented entertainers at Barleens
Arizona Opry provide a memorable show of music and fun. February 8th is the Old Time Rock and Roll show. If you remember poodle skirts and pompadours, you won’t want to
miss this show! Rock around the clock to such 50s and 60s rock ‘n’ roll favorites as Johnny B Good, Wooly Bully, Surfin USA, Twist & Shout, and much more.
May 2017 Grand RVers Page 7
But there is more than the Opry: Canyon Lake, Tortilla Flats, Mesa Market Place, Superstition Mountain Museum, and the Goldfield Ghost Town are close by. There are
many restaurants in the vicinity.
The arrival and departure dates are tentative and will be set by the yet-to-be-determined Wagon Master. However, February 8th is the Old Time Rock and Roll Show at Barleens.
LAKE HAVASU, AZ
Havasu Falls RV Resort
February 14th - 18th, 2018
WAGON MASTER NEEDED
Lake Havasu is celebrating the 10th Annual Rockabilly Re-union during this time. It's all about cool cats and chicks,
retro-fashion, rock-n-roll oldies music, rat-rods, and more at the 10th Annual Lake Havasu Rockabilly Reunion. Take
a three day stroll down nostalgia lane. You can visit the London Bridge and take a boat tour of the lake. It's only a
little over an hour drive to Laughlin, NV. All we need is a
volunteer to be the Wagon Master.
CIVIL WAR IN THE SOUTHWEST
Picacho Peak RV Park
March 16th – 19th, 2018
WAGON MASTER NEEDED
Each year hundreds of spectators descend on Picacho Peak State Park located half way between Phoenix and Tucson to watch re- enactments of an
Arizona Civil War skirmish. Visitors come from around the country to watch more than 200 actors
with authentic gear reenact the furthest west Civil War battle. There were eight rigs signed up for the 2017 rally but no Wagon Master. So the interest is
there but we need a volunteer to be the Wagon Master.

TEMECULA RALLY
Pechanga Casino RV Park, California

firm available sites but the Park won't reserve sites until after May 1. Once the dates are confirmed an email will be sent to all club members.
The Pechanga RV Resort and Casino is brand new and is rated 10 10 10 by Good Sam. It is located in the Temecula Valley, Southern California’s Wine Country. With over 30
wineries offering award-winning wines, great restaurants, and beautiful gift shops, Temecula Valley Wineries have something for everyone. Most all of the wineries are open
to the public daily. Wine tasting prices vary by winery; no appointments are needed.
BALLOON FIESTA
Albuquerque, New Mexico
October 5th -10th, 2018
WAGON MASTER NEEDED
Attend one of the premier hot air balloon gatherings in the United States with hot air balloons from across the US as well as many foreign countries. It
is a real spectacle! Events consist of mass ascen-sions, balloon glows, fireworks, and much more. The real thrill is when the balloons are
right over your unit!!!!! The dates are tentative because the 2018 Schedule has not yet been published. We want to post this rally early in order for a Wagon Master to have the opportunity to start planning.
We have two brand new additions to our monthly newsletter! The first is “TIPS FOR TRAVEL” and is the brain child of our own
Timm Burke! Our first article is on “Organizing Under RV Storage”. (See the next page)
Our second addition to our newsletter is called, appropriately
enough…“RALLY RECIPES”! Have you ever gone on a rally and someone made some-
thing so delicious that you just had to have the recipe? Well, now you have a place to find the “must have” recipes from our rallies! Our first recipe is from Mary Winterstein who
made some yummy mushroom hors d’oeuvres on the Tucson rally.

Be sure to send your “TIPS FOR TRAVEL” and/or your “RALLY RECIPES” to me at [email protected] and I will put them into the next newsletter.
Thanks, and have a great summer!!

Organizing Under RV Storage
Most of you that know me will admit, as do I, that I have never been accused of being the brightest member around. To illustrate this, I have fought for 6 years which under RV storage container has what stored there. So, once again, I tried one more time to organize storage where I might be able to find things as the summer progresses… as well as my memory where the heck everything is, fades away!
So, while trying to come up with a system that would work I got interrupted by a cell phone call.
Suddenly it hit me like a golf ball sailing through the air at my little pea brain! My phone was the answer…. or the camera in my phone was the answer...”Take the picture, Tim!”
So what I did was take a picture of each compartment when packed and then printed the picture. I store the pictures in a 3 ring binder with my travel documents under a tab for storage. Such a simple idea but a really good answer… especially for a ding bat like me!
Take the pictures, keeping the front wheels in the picture. As you go along, make sure the fuel lid is in the picture so that you can remember which compartment is on which
side of the RV.
Got a good idea? Drop the newsletter ([email protected]) your ideas for others to read… just like this.
Hope this helps and motivates some other good ideas from other members.
Remember "Wheels side down!" Have a safe summer and hope to see everyone in fall!

MUSHROOMS
Submitted by Mary Winterstein from the Tucson Rally
1 lb. Butter 4 lb. Med. Mushrooms **If large cut in half 1 qt. Burgundy wine **I use Merlot 1 1/2 TBSP Worcestershire sauce 1 tsp. Dill weed 1 tsp. Pepper 1 tsp. MSG 2 cups Water 3 cubes Beef bouillon 3 cubes Chicken bouillon 3 cubes Vegetable bouillon **If you can’t find vegetable, use more beef & chicken In a large kettle, mix all except the mushrooms. Heat the liquid while cutting the mushrooms into the liquid. Bring to boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer 5 – 6 hours. Remove cover & continue cooking 3 – 5 hours or until liquid has been reduced to barely cover mushrooms. Serve warm in chafing dish with cocktail picks. Yields about 100 bites. Note: Freezes beautifully. Thaw and just reheat. Enjoy. It is easy and I believe it can’t be ruined.
CLASSIFIED ADS Note: Only Grand RV members may submit RV related items for sale and such items must be submitted by one week prior to the end of any month to be con-sidered for inclusion in the issue scheduled for the first of the month.
