general information

Registration

• Register online at www.gacamp.org. A non-refundable $100deposit is required for each camper. You will be invoiced for thebalance; payments are accepted online with Visa or Master Card(we do not accept American Express or Discover) or by check.All camp fees must be paid in full by May 30, 2011 or you maylose your reservation and the space may be filled from the waitinglist. If you register aer May 30, the full amount is due at thetime of registration.

• For a $25 registration fee, a paper application may be submit-ted. Call our Summer Programs office or see the “Forms” sectionof our website for details. ere is no charge for applying online.

Start-up Packet

A start-up packet will be posted on our website in late May withdetailed information relevant to the specific camps your childwill be attending. is information will include what to bring,what to wear, what to expect, and drop-off and pick-up proce-dures. Car tags will be sent to all registered families by May 30and must be displayed by any driver picking up a camper. If youneed additional car tags, please contact the Summer Programsoffice.

Early Bird Discount

A 10% discount will be applied to camp fees and extended dayfees for each camper who is enrolled in at least three weeks ofcamp and has paid all camp fees in full by March 5, 2011. isdiscount does not apply to lunch or programs added to thecamper’s account aer March 5.

Refund Protection

• If you cancel for any reason before May 30, 2011 you will re-ceive a refund of all fees paid, minus the $100 deposit. We donot issue refunds aer May 30 unless you purchase our RefundProtection plan.

• With the purchase of the Refund Protection plan, German-town Academy will reimburse parents 75% of the unused portionof camp fees (excluding the non-refundable $100 deposit) for avalid medical withdrawal that is accompanied by written docu-mentation from a doctor. Cost of the Refund Protection plan is$20 per camper.

Service Charges

A service charge of $25 will be assessed for any changes made toa camper’s schedule aer May 30, 2011.ere will be a charge of$35 assessed for any check returned by the bank.

Health

Germantown Academy employs a full-time nurse and athletictrainer to meet the health needs of our campers. In order for usto effectively care for campers in the event of illness or injury,parents are required to complete health information forms foreach camper as part of the registration process. No child will bepermitted to attend camp without completed health forms.

Lunch

A nutritious lunch is available for a fee of $25/week. Please seeour website for additional information and menu options.Campers attending a morning program until 12:00pm and anaernoon program beginning at 1:00pm will attend a supervisedlunch period in our air conditioned dining room from 12:00-12:45pm. All other campers, including aernoon Day Campparticipants, eat lunch with their respective groups.

Swimming

Germantown Academy has a 25-yard indoor pool, staffed by ex-perienced, certified lifeguards. Recreational swimming is in-cluded in our sports camps and aernoon day camp schedule.Daily group swimming lessons are provided to participants whoare enrolled in Preschool Day Camp and Traditional Day Camp.Towels for swimming are provided.

Supervision

Children will always be with an escort when traveling betweenactivities and lunch. Counselors keep full schedules of campersand get them to sports, academics, theater, day camp, art, lunch,swimming or wherever their Summer Programs day takes them!

Extended Hours ProgramWe provide supervision for children who need to arriveearly and/or stay on campus beyond the regular programhours. Several enrollment options are available. e hoursand general parameters of the AM and PM sessions are de-scribed below.

AM Session: 7:00-8:45 AMPM Session: 3:30-6:00 PM

1. Full-time: Enrolling in the AM or PM session 5 days/wk.Cost: $50 per week for each session, $100.00 per week forboth sessions every day

2. Part-time: Register for specified days per session Cost: $11

3. Drop-In: Daily as needed, no pre-registration Cost: $15

An additional charge of $15.00 for pick-ups 1-15 minutes aer 6:00 PM and an additional $1.00 charge for every

minute aer 6:15 PM.

For more than 250 years, Germantown Academy has been using inno-vative teaching techniques to assure academic excellence. Our summeracademic programs offer something for everyone, including enrich-ment, maintenance, and remediation courses. Our success is largelydue to the patient, persistent, flexible, and caring teachers who find cre-ative and stimulating ways to promote learning. Student teacher ratiosnever exceed 12 to 1 and are typically less than 6 to 1 in the K-5 LowerSchool classes. Students seeking academic credit for summer studyneed to consult with their respective schools for permission to pursuethe course for credit. Enrollment is limited in all courses. A Touch of Culture–An Introduction to

the Far East(New Course!) Aikido e Art of Japanese Self-DefenseLearn Aikido, a Japanese self-defense art thatcombines powerful movements with ancientsamurai philosophy of chivalry. e word“Aikido” literally means “the way of harmoniz-ing with energy.” It teaches students to be ableto defend themselves while also protectingtheir opponent. e ultimate aim is not onlyto be able to resolve external conflict, but tofind a deep calm and confident center withinour selves.

Explorer Camp Director: Daniel [email protected] e goal of Explorer Camp is to givecampers entering grades 7-8 the opportu-nity to learn how to take healthy riskswhile making friends and having fun.Campers travel off campus to attendwilderness excursions, participate in serv-ice projects, and enjoy recreational pur-suits. Our creative, experienced staffsupervises the safe and exciting schedule ofvaried summer activities, from whitewaterraing and rock climbing to museum tripsand miniature golf outings. Campers mayattend one week or all six, but space is lim-ited so early registration is recommended.e fee covers all costs except spendingmoney for souvenirs when applicable. Dueto the nature of the program, all campersshould plan to bring a lunch om homeevery day instead of ordering om our lunchservice. Every week is different, and theschedule is available on our website.

Note: e activity schedule may changedue to weather. Babysitting Workshop Designed for campers entering grades 6-8who are responsible and enjoy spendingtime with young children. day camp Traditional Day CampDirector: Rollin [email protected] Shoot archery arrows, make jewelry, take a nature walk in the woods,launch a rocket, climb a rope ladder, catch a fish, play a game of soccer,learn Aikido and canoe in the Wissahickon Creek. is is just aglimpse of what you can do in our Traditional Day Camp program.

Campers are divided into troops of 6-12 children. Adult leaders teachour specialty areas, including arts and cras, archery, swimming les-sons, field games, tennis, nature, canoeing, and challenge course.Every camper has an instructional swim period in our 25-yard indoorpool every morning and a well-rounded schedule of other camp ac-tivities. Each week at Day Camp, there is a new theme with culmi-nating all-camp group activities in the aernoons. (Check our websitefor this year’s calendar!)

A typical aernoon includes a one-hour free choice period, whencampers choose from several options ranging from quiet games in thepicnic area, to capture the flag, to fishing in the creek. During the af-ternoon, children participate alongside campers from other troops,including campers enrolled in Aernoon Day Camp. A recreationalswim period also occurs in the aernoon which includes use of thediving board for qualified swimmers. For children ages 6 to 12, en-tering grades 1-6.
