Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Welcome to KAYLA and ERIC. Kayla starts her year as our pastoral intern on July 1.

They moved into their apartment on June 25 and hopefully have begun to get the lay

of the land. I know you will welcome them to our community. You might want to

invite them for a cookout. I know how much Joyce and I enjoyed those early dinner

conversations and the opportunity to get to know folks here at Hope in a casual

atmosphere.

Hope Lutheran church is a learning center and I, as Kayla’s supervisor, become an

extension of the seminary’s faculty. The pastoral internship is a critical part of the

education for future pastors in our church. Reports throughout the year will be

shared with both Kayla’s candidacy committee for her Synod and with Luther

Seminary. Kayla and I will have a formal weekly supervision meeting where we will talk about her

experience and learning objectives throughout the year. The goal of the internship year is to give

the seminarian an opportunity to experience the full spectrum of what life as a parish pastor entails.

Kayla and I will join with the other interns and supervisors of Region 1 twice during her internship.

These cluster meetings are always beneficial as we hear from all the interns how their year is going.

Every congregation serving as an internship site also has a Lay Internship Committee that will meet

with the intern each month to discuss how the internship is going and address any concerns raised

by the intern. The Lay Internship Committee also will be asked to provide a six month and final

evaluation. The chair of our committee this year is Brent Rosso.

Kayla will be preaching on a regular basis with frequency that will increase to every other week in

the final months of her internship. She will be interacting with the various teams, committees, and

the Congregational Council. She will be making pastoral visits and will join Paul and myself as a

member of our program staff.

I am delighted to have Kayla and Eric join us for the coming

year and look forward to having Kayla as a pastoral

colleague. Eric, a music major in college, has accepted my

invitation to restart and direct our bell choir here at Hope

Lutheran.

There will be a reception following each service on Sunday,

July 7 to welcome them.

Kayla and Eric Billings

Vacation Bible School was

a huge success this year! We

had 140 children and another

25 youth and adults who helped

make it happen! Throughout

the week children learned what

it means to Stand Strong for

God. This was a wonderful

joint effort with Holy Rosary!

Thank you to all who helped

make this happen!
