From Fabric A, cut:two 12-1/2” x WOF strips. Subcut: forty-two 2” x 12-1/2” sashing stripsfour 7-1/4” x WOF strips. Subcut: twenty7-1/4”squaresforthelargeflyinggeeseeleven 2” x WOF strips. From three of the strips, subcut: seven 2” x 12-1/2” sashing strips, for a total of forty-nine Set aside the remaining eight strips for strip sets.
From each of Fabrics B, D, F and H, cut:one 3-1/2” x WOF strips. Subcut: five3-1/2”squaresfortheblockcenters Trim the remainder of the strip to 2-3/8” wide, then subcut: three2-3/8”squaresforthesmallflyinggeeseone 2-3/8” x WOF strip. Subcut: seventeen2-3/8”squaresforthesmallflyinggeese,foratotaloftwenty
From each of Fabrics C, E, G and I, cut:one 4-1/4” x WOF strip. Subcut: five4-1/4”squaresforthesmallflyinggeesetwo 3-7/8” x WOF strip. Subcut: twenty3-7/8”squaresforthelargeflyinggeeseone 2” x WOF strip. Subcut: twenty 2” squares
From Fabric J, cut:seventeen 2” x WOF strips. From two of the strips, subcut: thirty 2” squares for the cornerstones Set aside eight strips for strip sets. Sew the seven remaining strips together, end-to-end, then trim: two 2” x 59” top/bottom inner borders two 2” x 69-1/2” side inner borders
From Fabric K, cut:seven 5” x WOF strips. Sew the strips together, end-to-end, then trim: two 5” x 68” top/bottom outer borders two 5” x 72-1/2” side outer borders
From the Binding Fabric, cut:eight 2-1/2” x WOF strips

Step 1: Pin two 2-3/8” Fabric B squares in opposing corners of a 4-1/4” Fabric C square, RST. The squares will overlap slightly in the center of the large square. Using a ruler, draw a diagonal line through the squares.
Assemble the Small Flying Geese
Step 2: Sewscant1/4˝seamoneachsideofthediagonalline.Settheseambypressingitflat.Cutalongthediagonalline,creatingtwoidentical units.
Step 3: Press the fabric toward smaller triangles. Repeat with the second unit.
Step 4: Place one 2-3/8” Fabric B square at the corner of sewn block unit.Drawdiagonallineinpencil.Sewascant1/4˝seamoneachsideof diagonal line. Set seam (press). Cut along diagonal line, creating two identical units.
Step 5: Press the seam toward smaller triangle. Trim off small dog ears left by the seam allowance. Trim to 2” x 3-1/2” if necessary. Repeat to make four flyinggeeseblocks.
Step 6: Repeat with all remaining 2-3/8” Fabric B, D, F and H squares and 4-1/4” Fabric C, E G and I squares to make a total of:

Assemble the Large Flying Geese

Step 10: Place one 3-7/8” Fabric C square at the corner of sewn block unit. Draw diagonal line in pencil. Sew a scant 1/4” seam on each side of diagonal line. Set seam (press). Cut along diagonal line, creating two identical units.
Step 11: Press the seam toward smaller triangle. Trim off small dog ears left by the seam allowance. Trim to 3-1/2” x6-1/2”ifnecessary.Repeattomakefourflyinggeeseblocks.
Step 12: Repeat with all remaining 3-7/8” Fabric C. E. G and I squares and 7-1/4” Fabric A squares to make a total of:

Step 13: Sew a Fabric A WOF strip to a Fabric J WOF strip. Press toward Fabric J. Repeat to make eight strips sets.
Step 16: Gather:one 3-1/2” Fabric B squarefourB/Csmallflyinggeesefour 2” Fabric C squares
Arrange the units into three rows of three. Note the fabric placement and block orientation in the Block Assembly Diagram.

Step 14: Cut each strip set into twenty 2” x 3-1/2” units, for a total of one hundred sixty units.
Step 15: Sew two units together, pairing opposite fabrics and pressing the seam open or to one side. The four-patch unit should measure 3-1/2” square. Repeat to make eighty four-patch units.
Step 17: Sewtheunitstogethertoformtherows.Presstheseamsawayfromtheflyinggeeseunits.
Step 18: Sew the rows together, nesting the seams and pressing the seams to one side to form the block center.
Step 19: Gather:the complete block center from Step 18four Four-Patch unitsfourC/Alargeflyinggeese
Arrange the units into three rows of three. Note the fabric placement and block orientation in the Block Assembly Diagram.
Step 20: Sew the units together to form the rows. Press the seamsawayfromtheflyinggeeseunits.

Step 21: Sew the rows together, nesting the seams and pressing the seams to one side to form the block center. The resulting block will measure 12-1/2” square. Repeat Steps 16-20 to make:

Step 22: Arrange the Blocks together as indicated in the Quilt Assembly Diagram. Sew each row together, using Fabric A sashing strips between each block and at the beginning and endofeachrow.Pressseamstowardthesashing.Repeattomakefiveblockrows.
Step 23: Gatherfivecornerstonesquaresandfoursashingstrips.Seweachrowtogether,using cornerstones between each sashing strip and at the beginning and end of each row. Press seams toward the sashing. Repeat to make six sashing rows.
Step 24: Sew the sashing and block rows together, pinning and nesting the seams. Press seams open or to the sashing.
Step 25: Sew the side inner borders to the sides of the quilt center. Press toward the borders. Sew the top and bottom inner borders to the quilt center. Press toward the borders.
Step 26: Sew the side outer borders to the sides of the quilt center. Press toward the borders. Sew the top and bottom outer borders to the quilt center. Press toward the borders.
Your quilt top is complete! Baste, quilt, bind and enjoy!
