JEWELLERY SHOPSCopenhagen is an excellent place to buy jewellery – both the classic brands and individual jewellery in the designers’ small shops. by lars højholt
m INTERNATIONAL HISTORY IN SILVER Georg Jensen is, if anyone, the man behind the international interest for Scandinavian design. The
silver is of a particularly high quality and the craftsmanship is even better in this Danish success story,
which supplies style and luxury to the whole world.
Georg Jensen/Royal Copenhagen
Amager Torv 4, Cph K

m FESTIVE AND COLOURFUL Marlene Juhl Jørgensen transforms the impression of the past into distinctive yet simple jewellery
at Figaros Bryllup, where candlelight and
mahogany form the settings around this
intimate shop and workshop. Pink, red
and green gold are used in the materials.

Store Regnegade 2, Cph K
m RAW PERSONALITY IN ADDITION TO THE CLASSIC MATERIALS Besides the classic materials, Marianne
Dulong adds rare stones with the appro-
priate amount of edge to enhance the
personality of those who wear the jewel-
lery. They are raw, classic and glamorous
and are also available for men.

m THEATRICAL WITH NEW MATERIALS Zarah Voigt’s past in set design and costume
design is not denied in the lively, decadent
and theatrical jewellery, which in an elegant
way mixes materials like perspex with silver.
This is jewellery with humour and life.

m ROMANTIC MINIMALISM
Elegant women like Gwyneth Paltrow and
Keira Knightley have been immortalized
several times with Julie Sandlaus’ jewellery,
which has also found its way to the reputable
SAKS 5th Avenue. Romance with Scandina-
vian minimalism added.

When Copenhageners find expensive impulse purchases and the discarded de-signer dress in their cupboards, it is easy to make a vintage bargain. Go to the flea markets in the summer and to the large halls with mounds of second-hand branded clothing in the winter. The vintage shops are open throughout the year.

Copenhagen has almost everything on the menu – from smørrebrød and salad to sushi and French fusion cuisine. The city’s many restaurants testify to the fact that Danish gastronomy is a serious contender on the international food scene. In fact, Danish restaurants boast more Michelin stars than cities such as Rome, Berlin and Madrid.

From royal castles to ChristianiaArchitecture lovers will need plenty of camera capacity when visiting Copenhagen. Throughout the city you will encounter exciting architecture from all periods. There is everything from spanking new buildings such as the Opera House and the Black Diamond, classical castles and churches, to the more down-to-earth and quirky designs of Christiania and Nyhavn. No matter where your city wandering leads you, you’ll always find a park or a bench nearby where you can enjoy your lunch with views of outstanding architecture.
AMALIENBORg PALACEAmalienborg Palace is regarded as the finest example of rococo architecture in Denmark. This is the where the Queen and the Prince Consort reside during the winter. In fact, the palace consists of four palaces, surrounding an octagonal courtyard, which were originally built for four distinguished noble families. At Amalienborg Museum, visitors can see pieces from the royal collections, including garments and changing art exhibitions.Amalienborg Slotsplads 0
FREDERIK’S CHURCH/THE MARBLE CHURCH The dome of the Marble Church is one of many features of the Copenhagen skyline. The church resembles a smaller version of St Peter’s Church in Rome, and Frederiksstaden, the area that surrounds the building, is reminiscent of Paris. Frederiksgade 4 +45 3315 0144
THE BLACK DIAMOND The Black Diamond adjoins the Royal Library on Slotsholmen. This black building, which is clad in highly polished black granite from Zimbabwe, is situated right on the harbour front. It reflects the light from the sun and the water like a massive diamond, hence its name. In addition to the library, it houses the National Museum of Photography and the restaurant Søren K.Søren Kierkegaards Plads 1+ 45 3347 4747
CHRISTIANIA Freetown Christiania is a unique social experiment
that has been running since 1971. Back then, a group of Christianites ripped down the fencing that surrounded the deserted barracks to create a playground for their children. Today, about a thousand people live in Christiania, which is
internationally known for its liberalism, hippies, workshops, cafés and its special sense of community. The area is particularly interesting because many
of the residents have designed and built their own innovative houses.
Bådsmandsstræde 43www.christiania.org b
THE OPERA HOUSE The Opera House on Holmen was designed by the Danish architect Henning Larsen, and is re-garded as the most modern opera house in the world. It enjoys a spectacular location opposite Amalienborg at the entrance to the city. The Opera House has both a main stage and a small-er, more intimate performance venue. Modern works by Per Kirkeby, Per Arnoldi, Olafur Eli-asson and other renowned artists adorn the building.Ekvipagemestervej 10+45 3369 6969www.kgl-teater.dk
Rosenborg Castle was built by the renaissance king, Christian IV. It resembles a fairy-tale castle and is situated in the middle of Kon-gens Have (‘The King’s Garden’) and is the city’s most popular park. This is where Copenha-geners and tourists sun-bathe, play ball games and go for picnics. The castle houses collec-tions of silver, porcelain and paintings, although , Rosenborg’s biggest at-tractions are the crown jewels and regalia, which are kept in the castle treasury.Østervoldgade 4 A+45 3315 3286www.rosenborgslot.dk
NYHAVN For many Copenhageners, a beer and an ice cream in Nyhavn epit-omise summer. In the past, Ny-havn was Copenhagen’s red-light district. Today, the timber-frame buildings house a large variety of cafés and restaurants with out-door serving, and the whole area teems with life – right into the early hours.

You purchase the parking ticket in the ticket ma-chines, which in general accept coins. The detailed parking regulations appear on the machines. The districts around the centre also have parking zones that cost money to park in. Remember to position your parking disc so you don’t get a fine. You can also purchase a day-ticket if you need to park for longer than two hours.
