Friends, I trust you had a reflective Memorial Day holiday – a time to consider duty, honor and sacrifice. Trish and I are just back from a trip to Gettysburg and Valley Forge where these attributes are in deep abundance.!!Combined with the American Institute of Architects’ annual convention held this year in Philadelphia, we also took in the artistic aspects of the Wyeth families at their homes and studios in the beautiful Brandywine Valley at Chadd’s Ford, Pennsylvania. And for a real

contrast to our daily hustle and bustle, the jaunt through Lancaster County to view the living and farming techniques of the Amish community there is a unique experience. Farming with horses and mules, a harder but perhaps a much less confused lifestyle was contrasted greatly by the traffic jams to the Philadelphia airport, which amplified huge differences in this 21st cen-tury. !!Back to Dallas and the SWS! I am looking forward to serving as President in this coming year. Great artists and events await us. Our next meeting will be Sunday, July 17th at Royal Lane Baptist Church. This will be the Preview Party for viewing the entries in our 53rd Annual Membership Show! !!SWS has a great line-up of visiting artists coming to Dallas for the fall of 2016 and the spring of 2017. We start with Stan Miller in September who will also serve as our juror for the show. Be sure to go to CAFÉ to enter your work for the Exhibition. !!Bill Johnson and Christine Scott are busy at work as our 4th Vice Presidents/Exhibit Chairs. !!Other members of the SWS Board for this coming year are Jerry Kagay (1st Vice president/Programs), Carmen Prince (2nd Vice President/Membership), Bev Boren and Lana House-wright (3rd Vice Presidents/Workshops), Donna Mohr (Treasurer), Marian Hirsch (Recording Secretary), Sherry Daerr (Corresponding Secretary), and Ron Bigony (Parliamentarian). !!Our SWS organization of over 400 members has many moving parts …. and lots of opportuni-ties for participation. Let us know of your interest to volunteer!!!I am looking forward to a fulfilling and fun-filled year.!!Bryce A. Weigand, FAIA!President!!

STAN MILLER stanmiller.net !

Robert O’Brien has been painting in the watercolor medium for over forty years. Since moving to Ver-mont in 1977, he has focused his work on landscape and architectural studies. Vermont, with its distinct four-season climate, provides the artist with a wealth of subject matter and ever changing light effects.!!The artist finds beauty in the ordinary, subtle reminders of everyday life in rural New England. In his own words, he is driven “to capture the vanishing landscape in my paintings” before they disappear forever as a result of the steady hand of “progress”.!
