GLM is a year-round Montessori program that offers themed summer camps. With special summer activities within the Montessori program, we provide continuity for returning students and develop teacher/child/family relationships with new students.

Toddler Fun in the Sun(18 Months - 3 Years)The summer is a great time for new toddlers to adjust to a day away from parents and other caregivers. The fundamentals of being “in school” are learned in a loving, fun environment. Toddlers attend age-appropriate assemblies and events and enjoy their own outdoor activities such as gardening and splashing in wading pools on warm days.

Summer Fun in the Sun(Pre-K thru Kindergarten)In addition to the continuity of the Montessori classroom curriculum, there will be themed sessions in science, sports, creative arts and transportation. Other weekly activities include gardening, music/movement, yoga, art, cooking and water play.

Intro to the Performing Arts - July 30 - Aug.10(For GLM 5 yr. olds only)

This program is optional for GLM 5 yr. olds enrolled in summer day camp. During Week 1 the children will be escorted daily for 1-1/2 hours, to the performing arts building (Live-Oak classroom) and will then be returned to their regular GLM classrooms for ongoing activities. Week 2, parents must drop children at the theater and staff will return them to GLM. They will learn dances and songs from specialists and will perform in groups as angels and village children. Arts, crafts, scenery projects, movement classes and costumes are part of this introductory theatre program. Full 10-day attendance is required. Limited enrollment on a first-come, first served basis. Supplemental fee: $100.

Performing Arts Camp - July 30 - Aug.10(Ages 6-12 yrs.)

In two short weeks, kids learn about theater, audition, casting, memorize roles and dances - and on Friday, August 10, put on an entire children’s opera. Working with theater professionals, this is an extraordinary opportunity for children who are interested in theater. This program is open to both GLM siblings and the general public. Full 10-day attendance is required. Limited enrollment on a first-come, first served basis.

Don’t miss the Performing Arts Camp meeting for parents on April 5, from 5:30pm to 6:30pm where we can answer all your questions.

 e Story of:

“Harlequin”A Children’s Opera Based on

an Italian Folktale

“Harlequin” takes place in the little town of Bergamo, Italy, during the period of the Renaissance (14th to 16th centuries.) It is the day before “Carnival” or “Fat Tuesday”, which marks the last day before lent.Harlequin is coaxed by his friends to participate in the carnival, but Harlequin has no costume to wear, and being the son of a poor widow, sees no possibility of obtaining one. Each of his friends decides to give him a small piece of cloth with which to make a costume. While Harlequin sleeps, he dreams of a “Dream Seller” and the grandeur of being “Ruler of the World” and demands entertainment. But in his dream he sees himself as a poor shabby boy whose friends ridicule him. When he awakens, he £ nds his mother has sewn him a beautiful costume from the fabric scraps and when he is admired at the carnival, his friends soon conclude that the person in the best costume is their friend, Harlequin.

Scenes from last year’s production of Burning Rice Fields.
