Words from the Pres: Hi Members and Friends. It has been interesting winter weather-wise

around the country. What is more fun - that, or politics? We look forward to heading north and seeing our friends and members.

Last year was great with the new room in the fire hall and with the new flags, storage room, shelves and new tables for meetings and events such as planning for the rummage sale, etc.

Another high note is our new Vice President, Lynn Zapolnek. She was a great help with the kids fishing tournament.

If you have any suggestions or ideas concerning any and all of our functions, please let us know.

Thanks,Bill Stocker

There are a number of events SSA will possibly by sponsoring. In order for these events to take place, we need participation from our members. Without sufficient help, they will not take place. We hope to have Welcome Back to Lac La Belle at our first meeting in June. Later in June we would like to plan a celebration in honor of Mid Summer on June 21st at Bete Grise. Summer Fest is scheduled for August 7th at Haven Park. We would like to sponsor the Kid’s Fishing Tournament and hold it August 20th or the 27th. We have talked about another Rummage Sale and it would be good to know if there is still interest. The Rummage Sale would be held the same weekend as Dumpster Days which is tentatively set for August 13th and 14th.

SSA & LLBVFD CHRISTMAS PARTY

Bucky and Lisa Koljonen enjoyed dinner along with the other attendees.

Here’s to you too Stella! Luke really liked his gift!

The Annual SSA and Lac La Belle Fire Department Christmas Party was held Saturday, December 5th at the Fire Hall Expansion. Though numbers were down, the gathering was festive with good food, white elephant gifts and plenty of conversation. A big thank you to Jackie Sorenson and Stella Mottonen for their efforts.

A Message from the Chief Please remember to check or have your chimneys checked especially if burning wood so as to prevent

chimney fires. This reminder is for summer and winter residents. Also check the condition of the stove piping and replace it if needed. Check your smoke detectors and change the batteries twice a year.

There will not be a pancake breakfast this year. Our fundraiser will be the Fish Boil. It will be held August 20th from noon to 6 PM at the Fire Hall. Please have people tell a friend and bring two or more with them.

The Fire Department helped with the Copper Dog Sled Dog Race held the last weekend of February. The guys worked trail 3 in Delaware February 27th and also the morning of the 28th, about 3 hours each day. Those working were Richard Schafer, Gale Curtis, Ned Huwatscheck and Hank Nurmi. Thank you to the Keweenaw County Road Commission for delivering and picking up the road signs and stop signs. Also, thank you to the Road Commission for taking good care of our Fire Hall driveway and parking area in the winter. Nice job guys!

Thank you,Rick Olson, Chief, LLBVFD

Fish Boil 2015 was held August 15th in the Fire Hall. The Fish Boil was well received in the community and attended by people from a surrounding area. Thank you to all who helped!

KIDS FISHING TOURNAMENT

The Kid’s Fishing Tournament was held Saturday, August 22 at Lac La Belle.

Each angler was entered to win a bike. There were 4 bikes, 2 for an older boy and girl and 2 for a younger boy and girl.

Grandpa Bill Stocker helped granddaughter Maya Coronado measure and record the fish she caught.

There were 58 participants this year. As in the past the anglers each received a bag of prizes, lunch and a number of give-aways along with money prizes for fish in specific categories. Each angler chose a Dream Fish in honor of Byron Muljo and one name was drawn to win the $50 prize.
