BI-WEEKLY NEWSLETTER BYVice President of Communications, Brooke McDaniel

Fellow Yellow Jackets,

Please see below for a few more updates from your SGA from the summer. As school starts back in less than a month now, we look forward to keeping you updated on a bi-weekly basis of the things that we are doing for you. See you at Tech soon!

4.0 Recognition:

The Registrar’s office and the President’s office have put together a letter program for students receiving 4.0’s in any given semester. Students can now go to http://www.perfectgpa.gatech.edu/ to request a letter from the President on their 4.0 semester.

2010 Football Ticketing:

New policies have been implemented for the upcoming football season. Please familiarize yourself with the policies and the schedule for buying tickets at the end of this briefing. Season ticket prices are still only $36, and tickets for individual games can also be reserved. August 6 is the last day to form groups for ticketing. To do so, please email Graham Neff at [email protected]

Football Events:

Look out for more information coming soon about the Family Weekend Pep Rally on September 23rd and the White Out at the game against North Carolina State on September 25th!

Gubernatorial Debate:

The election of Georgia’s next governor is fast-approaching. With our student population of over 20,000, Yellow Jackets have the potential to have a big impact on this election’s outcome. As such, this October 13th your Student Government Association, in partnership with eight other Georgia universities, is hosting a gubernatorial debate focused on the issues impacting higher education and students in the state of Georgia. The debate will be held at Georgia Public Broadcasting’s campus, about a five minute walk from campus, and will also be broadcasted at a viewing party on campus. As the first debate ever completely inspired and organized by university students, this debate will be a very exciting event and we’d love for you to be involved. If you’re interested in working on the

debate, contact Kristen Greig, Student Lobby Board Chair, at [email protected]. And keep an eye out for more details coming soon!

First meeting of the Undergraduate House of Representatives:

The first meeting this fall of the UHR will be held Tuesday, August 31st in room 117 of the Flag building. All meetings are held in this room, each Tuesday, and meetings are always open to the entire student body. We encourage you to come observe meetings, or to participate by voicing your opinion on any matter during Open Forum.

Academic Affairs Board:

Recognizing the significant role that academics play in a daily life at Georgia Tech and the wide array of challenges facing today’s students, SGA is rolling out an innovative plan to overhaul its approach to the academic concerns of our constituents. The new Academic Affairs Board and its task forces will be responsible for addressing the student body’s many concerns both inside and outside the classroom by fostering a healthy learning environment and intellectual community at Tech. This year we will also be working to tackle a number of more specific issues such as improving student-faculty relations, access to academic resources, academic equity, and student rights. In an attempt to reflect these areas of concern, SGA is pleased to announce the formation of four new task forces: Undergraduate Academic Curriculum, Service and Leadership, Student-Faculty Development, and Academic Support. If you are interested in joining the team and helping to tackle the academic concerns of the student body, please contact Austen Edwards, Executive Director of Academic Affairs, at [email protected] or 229-392-2395.

Student Government is here to serve you, so please know that we are always willing to hear from you. Please feel free to contact me at any time with concerns or questions that you may have, or if you’re interested in getting involved in what we’re doing!

Best wishes,

Brooke [email protected] President of CommunicationsStudent Government Association

2010 Football Season Information

Key Dates:August 6 - Final day groups can be formed (Email Graham Neff at [email protected])August 20 - Season ticket registration begins for SENIORSAugust 22 - Season ticket registration begins for JUNIORSAugust 23 - Classes beginAugust 24 - Season ticket registration begins for SOPHOMORESAugust 25 - Rush ends and season ticket registration begins for FRESHMANAugust 27 - Season ticket registration endsAugust 30 - Athletic fee payment dueSeptember 4 - Georgia Tech vs. South Carolina @ Bobby Dodd Stadium!

Freshmen will have two days to sign up for season tickets! This is an extremely small window and will need to be effectively communicated! Additionally, unlike last year, students will be able to sign up for season tickets without paying their athletic fee. However, if the fee has not been paid by August 30th, their tickets will be revoked. This is after the signups for season tickets end, meaning if their tickets are revoked they will not be able to pay the fee and re-register. They will be stuck with single game tickets for the whole season.

Changes for 2010:• In order to access the lower north seats, students must have a wristband

and must have purchased season tickets. Wristbands will be available from each designated block leader prior to the game. If a student wishes to bring a guest (non-GT student) into the lower north section, he/she is responsible for finding that guest a wristband from someone who is not attending the game. If a wristband cannot be found, the student and guest must sit in other seats (ie: the south endzone).

• Attendance will be taken into consideration for block seating priority for football season 2011. If you know you will not be able to attend all home games, you may want to consider single game tickets as your poor attendance will negatively impact your block's seating priority for the next year.

• Any student expelled from a game for violence or excessive drunkenness will NOT BE ALLOWED TO ATTEND THE NEXT HOME GAME. His/her ticket will be electronically removed from the individual's buzzcard. There will be no warnings for students involved in fights.

• Freshman will have the opportunity to sign up for the Freshman Block (simple choose it from the drop-down menu).

• All students are encouraged to log on and choose to sign the new Gold Standard pledge:

Page 5: Summer Briefing 2

◦ I pledge to honor and uphold The Gold Standard. I will strive to create a positive environment for my team and fellow fans. I will cheer for Georgia Tech, rather than against the opponent. I will conduct myself in a positive manner, showing respect, responsibility and leadership to Georgia Tech. It's up with the White and Gold...Georgia Tech is out for a victory.

Students who are eligible to purchase and receive Georgia Tech student football tickets must meet the following criteria:1. Enrolled as a full-time student with the Georgia Institute of Technology2. Registered as a graduate student/coop/intern/or part-time student and have paid the Athletic Fee through the Bursar's Office

Tickets will be distributed to individuals as either single game tickets or season tickets, but not both.Students are eligible to receive (1) ticket to each Georgia Tech home football game. Eligibility does not guarantee a ticket.Students participating in the season ticket program must have paid the additional associated fee of $36.There are no physical tickets.
