Facility Amenities

On June 1, the BBRC will begin construction o n a s i g n i f i c a n t project to add an AdA-accessible elevator and

a 1500 square foot second floor. These expansions will offer an enhanced experience, additional fitness offerings, and improved access for our patrons.

A new fitness studio will be built above the existing group fitness room, and will allow for a dedicated spin studio, cardio theater, functional training area, and expanded group fitness capabilities. The elevator will be located adjacent to the racquetball courts, behind the staircase.

With the commencement of construction, we will be required to modify program schedules and relocate classes. Areas impacted will be racquetball courts, the gym, and the existing fitness studio. Updated schedules for each area will be posted on our website beginning in May at www.cityoflafayette.com/recreation.

We anticipate wrapping up construction in early Fall 2014 and ask for your understanding and patience as we work through the implementation phase.

In 2015 the Bob L. Burger Recreation Center will be celebrating its 25th anniversary. We’re very excited for this project and the opportunity to provide our community with new and improved opportunities to expand healthy and active lifestyles in Lafayette!

Be Active. Live Healthy.

THE GOALS OF OUR CURRICULUMThe most important goal of our early childhood curriculum is to help children become enthus ia s t ic

learners and form friendships. This means encouraging children to be active and creative explorers who are not afraid to try out their ideas and to think their own thoughts. Our goal is to help children become independent, self-confident, inquisitive learners. We’re teaching them how to learn, not just in preschool, but also all through their lives. We’re allowing them to learn at their own pace and in the ways that are best for them. We’re giving them good habits and attitudes, particularly a positive sense of themselves, which will make a difference throughout their lives. The areas of development are: Social: To help children feel comfortable in school, trust their new environment, make friends, and feel they are a part of the group.

Emotional: To help children experience pride and self- confidence, develop independence and self-control, and have a positive attitude toward life.

Cognitive: to help children become confident learners by letting them try out their own ideas and experience success, and by helping them acquire learning skills such as the ability to solve problems, ask questions, and use words to describe their ideas, observations, and feelings.

Physical: To help children increase their large and small muscle skills and feel confident about what their bodies can do. The activities we plan for children, the way we organize the environment, select toys and materials, plan the daily schedule, and talk with children, are all designed to accomplish the goals of our curriculum and give the children a successful start in school.

NUTRITION POLICYWe provide a valuable foundation for children to learn healthy habits. Our program encourages nutritional snacks and incorporates activities that promote large motor movement; which are critical components in children’s development.

* If a child is not potty-trained; parents need to stay in the Recreation Center during class time.* The $25.00 registration fee will guarantee a spot for your child the remainder of the school year.* Payment is due the 1st of each month.* the first and last months payment will be required on the first payment due date.* Classes end May 20, 2014

FOR YOUNG CHILdREN, MEANINGFUL ANd LONG-LASTING LEARNING REQUIRES ACTIVE THINKING ANd EXPERIMENTING TO FINd OUT HOW THINGS WORK. THIS IS BEST ACCOMPLISHEd THROUGH PURPOSEFUL PLAY FACILITATEd BY HIGHLY INTENTIONAL TEACHING PRACTICES.

"GET TO THE GO!"

WE ARE NOW LAFAYETTE GO! (GROWN-UP OPPORUNITIES) SERVICES ANd THE GO CENTER

In Lafayette, we like to think that growing older is mandatory but how we choose to be a grown-up is optional. As grown-ups, how we define ourselves is more about who each of us is than we are are a group of adults. We refuse to be defined by something as ordinary as age. We know that there is a great deal of difference between a 50 year old person and someone who is 80 or older. Our older participants went through World War II and sacrificed a great deal to see progress and prosperity. Those born after World War II grew up during a general time of opportunity and well-being thus, have different ideas than the earlier

generation. We serve them both.

How we serve these two generations of adults with varying interests and values is important to us. We can't be typical for accomplished, capable and empowered grown-ups who know what they want and refuse to settle for less. We won't define them by age, by location, by the things they like to do or the things they may want or need. To us, they are dynamic grown-ups with grown-up agendas and grown-up interests. Lafayette Senior Services is becoming the Lafayette GO! Services to reflect the need to provide GROWN-UP OPPORTUNITIES for both generations that we serve. Through GO! we have the ability to be flexible, to accomodate

varying interests, needs and values.

SO GET TO THE GO! ANd CONNECT WITH THE GROWN-UP IN YOU.
