    About Main Line Art Center

    Originally incorporated in 1937 as the Bryn Mawr Art Center, the Art Center merged withSuburban Art Center in 1963 and became the Main Line Center for the Arts. The Art Centerwas renamed Main Line Art Center in 1993 and today maintains the core values of respect forindividual creativity, a belief that everyone has the ability to learn and appreciate art, that artis essential for balance and enrichment, and that art is a catalyst for building community.

    The vision of Main Line Art Center is to maintain and further enhance its unique culture ofcreativity in the visual arts. The art program at Main Line Art Center explores traditional artforms while embracing innovative, forward-thinking, and contemporary ideas. Our strength liesin welcoming new techniques and new teaching methods that encourage people at all levelsof ability in the community to create and appreciate art. Classes and workshops are offeredyear-round in areas such as painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, photography, jewelrymaking, and printmaking. The Art Center offers up to ten annual exhibitions, including stretch

    and community exhibitions and seasonal fine crafts shows, that feature the work ofestablished and emerging artists, many of whom are Members, faculty, and students.

    We are committed to making art accessible to everyone and accomplish this by offering artprograms for individuals of all ages and abilities, including a unique series of outreachprograms for children and adults with developmental and physical disabilities, and by offering$12,000 in need-based scholarships from a restricted endowment to our students each year.More than 16,000 individuals, ages two to senior citizens, participated in our programs lastyear either as artists, students, or enthusiastic viewers.

    erasing or scraping away, you just paint overthem! This method can create layers ofvibrant or subtle color resulting in luminoussurfaces. Working from still life, we willexplore various techniques from open strokesthat create a variety of textures to blendedfinishes. A plethora of famous artists,including Renoir, Mary Cassat and Bonnard,used pastels as finished work rather thanpreliminary sketches. Through this medium,you will learn how to see and use yourperception in order to translate what you seeonto a 2-D surface.

    Registration & Payment Options

    We accept cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard and

    Amex. Enrollment is accepted only after FULL

    tuition is received. Please read the course

    descriptions carefully for course dates andtimes. The Art Center only sends confirmation

    after online registration. Students registering all

    other ways should expect registration acceptance

    unless otherwise notified. The Art Center may

    choose to decline an individual's request to

    enroll in classes or to participate in a class or

    program when necessary or appropriate.

    Supply Lists:

    It is the students responsibility to request acopy of a supply list at the front desk or look up

    the class on our website to download one.

    Early Registration Discount:

    Students registering through May 31 will receive

    a discount of $10 off their total registration fee.

    Only one early registration discount can be used

    per household per session.

    Additional Class Discount:

    Students who register for more than one class of

    4 weeks or more will receive a $10 discount on

    each additional class thereafter. Students who

    register for more than one class or workshop of

    3 weeks or less will receive a $5 discount on

    each additional workshop thereafter. Offer only

    applies when registering for multiple

    classes/workshops at the same time. As noted,

    larger discounts are sometimes given if a

    student signs up for two sessions of the same

    class. You will only receive the greater discount

    and not an additional $10 off for each class.

    New Student Discount:

    New to the Art Center? Mention this when you

    call to register or write NEWBIE on your

    registration form for $10 off of your class and

    workshop total. The discount will be

    automatically given if a new student registersonline. Discount not applicable to memberships,

    trips or lectures.

    Main Line Art Center reserves the right to deny

    or change discounts if used inappropriately.

    Sibling Discounts:

    Register one child for a class and receive $10

    off for each additional sibling registered for a

    class during the same session. Offer applies tochild and teen classes only, not family

    workshops, camps, or summer studios, and

    cannot be combined with multi-class/workshop

    discounts.

    Main Line Art Center reserves the right to deny

    or change discounts if used inappropriately.

    Class Cancellations:

    The Art Center reserves the right to cancelclasses due to insufficient enrollment or in case

    of a catastrophe. In the event the Art Center

    cancels a class, students will be notified and full

    tuition and fee will be refunded. Trip deposits are

    non-refundable unless MLAC cancels the trip.

    Cancellations are made five days prior to start of

    class or workshop.

    Withdrawal/Refund Policy:

    All refunds are subject to a $15 processing fee.An additional $35 fee will be charged for any

    withdrawal requests from a class or workshop

    five days prior to the first day of the class or

    workshop. Withdrawls after first class will also

    include a pro-rated class fee. No refunds will be

    granted after the second class.

    Scholarships:

    Scholarships are available based on financial

    need. The deadline for scholarships is May 31.

    Applications will be collected until the deadline

    date and then viewed collectively. Applications

    submitted after the deadline will not be

    considered. Contact the office for an application

    or download one from our website. For more

    details, read the policies and procedure portion

    of the application form.

    Publicity Policy:

    Main Line Art Center reserves the right to use

    photos taken during classes and other programs for

    publicity purposes. Registration in a class gives the

    Art Center permission to use images without further

    consent or compensation. From time to time, weshare our mailing list with partner organizations so

    that customers can receive info about related

    cultural activities. If for any reason you would like to

    opt out of this list, email us at [email protected].

    Student Property:

    The Art Center is not responsible for artwork and

    other property left on the premises and has no

    liability if such property is lost, stolen or

    damaged, except in instances when artwork isdisplayed in gallery exhibitions and covered by

    insurance. Artwork or property left two weeks

    after the semester ends will be discarded.

    Emergency Forms:

    Every child under the age of 18 is required to

    complete and submit a Child Emergency Form to

    the main office. Adult students 18 years and

    older are required to inform the main office if

    they have a medical condition that the staff or

    faculty should be aware of in the case of

    emergency. Forms are kept on file for one year

    unless there are updates or changes. The form

    can be obtained from the main office or isavailable for download at www.mainlineart.org in

    the Childrens Education Section.
