2007 is shaping up to be a very exciting year at the Art Gallery of Western Australia.
Alan R Dodge
Foreword
‘Raised by Wolves’, a focal event of the 2007 UWA PerthInternational Arts Festival, showcases the works of 25 talented international and Australian artists. This intriguingexhibition, which opens in February, focuses on the exploration of alternative family structures, enticing possibilities and the frightening realities of living outsidemainstream society.
One of our most popular exhibitions will be on once againin March. ‘Year 12 Perspectives 2006’ features a dynamicdisplay of work by 2006 West Australian TEE Art and Artand Design students, providing audiences with the oppor-tunity to marvel at the talent of our State’s young artists.
This year will see the continuation of our successful affiliation with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra. The Gallery will play host to three musical programs, withthe first held in March to complement ‘Raised by Wolves’.The series continues later in the year with concerts scheduled at the Gallery in August and November.
The Gallery’s very successful Artist in focus series is set to continue in 2007 with the first showcasing the work ofPaddy Bedford; our first exhibition in this well-receivedseries to feature the work of an Indigenous artist.
In the second half of 2007 we are thrilled to bring you‘Egyptian antiquities from the Louvre: Journey to theafterlife’. This major exhibition, undoubtedly one of theworlds finest collections of Egyptian artefacts, is beingpresented at the National Gallery of Australia and the ArtGallery of South Australia. Not just aesthetically breath-taking and vivid, 'Egyptian antiquities from the Louvre:Journey to the afterlife’ is a fascinating insight into theskill and determination of an ancient civilisation's belief inthe immortal. The exhibition will open at the Art Galleryof Western Australia in late July.
There are plenty of excellent opportunities to visitthroughout 2007 – what a busy and exciting year it will be at your Gallery!
