Camberley Judo Club’s heavyweight Karina Bryant finally claimed that elusive

Olympic medal by winning bronze at the London Olympics!

Karina defeated Iryna Kindzerska of Ukraine for the bronze medal in front of a sell out

crowd inside the Excel venue. Compeng in her 4th

Olympic Games Karina followed on

from the excitement of Gemma Gibbon’s silver the previous day.

The 33 year old, four me European Champion and five me World silver medallist, ba4led

through to the semi finals, having beaten the Beijing bronze medallist from Slovenian

earlier in the day.

Unfortunately despite Bryant’s determinaon, Japan’s Mika Sugimoto proved a test too far

and Karina found herself in the bronze medal contest against a fighter from the Ukraine.

The home supporters really got behind our Camberley fighter and li8ed her when she went

down a score, she dug deep and levelled the score. In a tense ba4le Karina proved her class

by throwing Kinderska again with a huge counter to win the match and the Olympic bronze

medal.

Camberley Head Coach Luke Preston was also an Olympic coach for Team GB at the

Games. He said "Karina dealt with the pressure and expectaon exceponally well and was

magnificent on the day. To win an Olympic medal is a huge achievement for Karina,

Camberley Judo Club and all of Brish Judo."

2 SUMMER FETE 2 SUMMER FETE 2 SUMMER FETE 2 SUMMER FETE

F

Bigger and beer than last year, we are pleased to say that our

Summer Fete 2012 was a roaring success.

We were thrilled to have over 50 people on the mat for Karina’s

Master Class, including visitors from Micklefield, Newbury and

Summit Judo Club.

A8er the Master Class everyone got involved with the acvies and

remained in good spirits despite the torrenal rain. A special

menon for Vince, in charge of the BBQ, he soldiered on through

rain and thunder to make sure everyone got a burger or sausage!

Thank you also to everyone who baked delicious cakes for us to sell

and for Becky and Jo for helping run the stall, again in the rain.

The drinks started flowing and the bar became a hive of acvity. In

the dojo Marc our Magician and Balloon Arst did a fantasc job of

keeping the children (and adults-Tony, Gary & Phil) entertained in

the a8ernoon. We were also lucky to have Paula from

amazingfaces.co.uk doing some stunning face painng and Amanda

from girlienighn.com pampering the parents. Thank you to each

one of them for making the day even more fun.

A8er a short break every child (as well as lots of Mums and Dads)

had the opportunity to see Karina’s Olympic medal, have a photo

taken and ask a few quesons. On behalf of Camberley Judo Club

and everyone who was part of the Summer Fete, a huge thank you

to Karina, Luke and their support team for their me and hard work

that day. It was a special opportunity to be part of Karina’s success

and help her celebrate as a Club and as a Judo community. It will be

a day everyone will remember forever and….. we are pleased to

report that this year’s Summer Fete raised just over £1000!

HELP US UPDATE THE JUNIOR

MEDAL TABLE!

The CJC website is to feature the

Junior Medal Table records. Please

email your child’s results to

[email protected]. They will

receive 1 point for entering, 2 for

bronze, 3 for silver and 5 points for

gold.

This summer we had a total of 4 Junior Judo Camps, the most CJC has

ever put on over the Summer holidays. The camps were a huge

success with over 90 children taking part.

Natalie Hall our Beginner and Intermediate Junior Coach, ran 3 weeks of

Judo Summer Camps this July and August aimed at the under 12 year

olds. They took part in plenty of Judo, training with the CJC Senior Elite

Team, Laser Quest, Cinema, bowling, water fights and outdoor

acvies. They also had fun designing congratulaons banners for our

Summer Fete to display for Karina.

Vince ran just 1 intense camp for his older Juniors, it

was well a4ended and everyone enjoyed it despite the

less fun and more hard work ethos of the week! They

took part in rock climbing, hill sprints and running,

Brazilian Jui-jitsu, and plenty of Judo.

Camberley Judo Club is booming and we have new

people joining us every week. In the last 3 months we

have had over 100 new Juniors and Seniors try Judo at

Camberley! Due to this increased demand we have

added some extra classes so it’s not too crowded on the mat and you sll

get lots of input from our fantasc coaches.

Details of the addional classes are available on the CJC website or

you can email [email protected] to find out more.

We will be running an October Half Term Camp on 30th

, 31st

and 1st

November, the forms will be on the no;ce board so

make sure you get booked in soon to avoid disappointment!
